Background and Objectives : Despite of numerous treatment modalities for glottic insufficiency, it still remains unresolved problem. Recently, autologous collagen injection was introduced as a new treatment for glottic insufficiency. This study was attempted to evaluate the efficacy of this treatment modality. Materials and Methods : Ten patients diagnosed as symptomatic sulcus vocalis with glottic insufficiency and agreed with this procedure were selected. Injectable collagen was obtained from the patient's dermis. It was injected into the pathologic area of the vocal fold. After injection, 4 of 10 patients were 1311owe4 up more than 5 months, and their voice were evaluated prior to injection and at 5 months after injection, using subjective, perceptual, aerodynamic, acoustic and videostroboscopic assessments. Results : In the aerodynamic assessment, 2 of 4(50%) patients was improved in MFR(mean flow rate), but no change was noted in MPT(maximum phonation time). In the acoustic assessment, no definite improvement was noted. In the subjective and perceptual assessments, 2 of 4(50%) patients was improved. In the videostroboscopic assessment, chink was reduced but still remained. Serious complication was not noted. Conclusion : Autologous collagen injection was reported as ideal treatment for glottic insufficiency, but our results were relatively unsatisfactory. But considering that our study is preliminary, it is too hasty to determine the efficacy of autologous collagen injection. We think that further study is required.

Background and Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of surgical extent on voice using acoustic and aerodynamic measurements in a serially followed thyroidectomy patients. Materials and Method : From October 2015 to January 2017, 108 patients who had undergone thyroid surgery and voice test for preoperative, 2, 3, and 6 months postoperatively were classified into five operative types. The radiological stage preoperatively and histopathological stage postoperatively were classified according to the invasion of thyroid capsule and surrounding tissue. For each classification, the results of the voice analysis according to the period were compared and analyzed. Results : The difference of voice according to surgical extent, radiological stage, and histopathologic stage showed significant difference only with Maximal phonation time (MPT) over time. However, in the analysis of interaction between each classification and period, Phonation threshold pressure (PTP) only showed significant results. Conclusion : Differences in imaging and histopathologic stages have no significant effect on recovery of voice symptoms after thyroid surgery. As the extent of operation increases, the pressure to start vocalization is relatively higher, which also varies with time after surgery.

Energy flow analysis(EFA) is a representative method that can predict the statistical energetics of structures at high frequencies. Generally, as the frequency increases, the shear distortion and rotatory inertia effects in the out-of-plane motion of beams or plates become important. Therefore, to predict the out-of-plane energetics of coupled structures in the high frequency range, the energy flow analyses of Timoshenko beam and Mindlin plate are required. Unlike the energy flow model of Kirchhoff plate, the energy flow model of Mindlin plate is composed of three kinds of energy governing equations(out-of-plane shear wave, bending dominant flexural wave, and shear dominant flexural wave). This paper performed the energy flow finite element analysis(EFFEA) of coplanar coupled Mindlin plates. For EFFEA of coplanar coupled Mindlin plates, the energy flow finite element formulation of out-of-plane energetics in the Mindlin plate was performed. The general EFFEA program was implemented by MATLAB® language. For the verification of EFFEA of Mindlin plate, the various numerical applications were done successfully.

Vocal hyperfunction is considered to be the most significant characteristic in larynx disorders which is found among many patients presenting hoarseness Primarily as chief complaint. In Pusan National University Hospital, we executed the voice therapy to 28 patients being 17 female and 11 male patients who visited the Voice & Speech Therapy Clinic, due to the voice disorder, and then compared and analysed the voice before and after its therapy using acoustic and aerodynamic test. The obtained results were as follows. In the analysis by the local findings, it was improved to 88% in the patients of vocal nodule, 75% in mutational falsetto, 75% in the functional dysphonia, 75% in the vocal cord palsy, 50% in the vocal polyp and 50% in dysphonia plica ventricularis. For the acoustic analysis, Fo, litter, Shimmer and NHR were measured. In the patients of mutational falsetto, Fo, Jitter and NHR were shown to be improved significantly and in the patients of vocal nodule, Shimmer was shown to be improved significantly. In the patients of vocal polyp, Fo was significantly improved. In the patients of vocal cord palsy in litter and NHH were significantly improved. In the patients of dysphonia plica ventricularis, Shimmer and NHR were significantly improved and the patients of functional dysphonia were more improved in Fo, litter and Shimmer. For the aerodynamic analysis, MPT was measured. In particular, it was shown to be improved significantly in the patients of vocal nodule, improved in the vocal polyp, vocal cord palsy, functional dysphonia patients.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of respiratory capacity(forced vital capacity), EMG of rectus abdominal muscle, phonation by respiratory muscle strengthening exercise in children with spasticity cerebral palsy. 24 children with spasticity cerebral palsy was randomized in 2 groups, respiratory muscle strengthening exercise and contro group. In the exprimentral groups, respiratory muscle strengthening exercise for 30minutes duration 3 time per week for 8weeks were respectively preformed, Control group was not performed. Before and after experiments, respiratory capacity(forced vital capacity), EMG of rectus abdominal muscle and phonation was measured in all children. In comparison of difference before and after experiment, the respiratory capacity(forced vital capacity) of respiratory muscle strengthening exercise group was significantly increased than the control group(P<.05), rectus abdominal muscle EMG of the respiratory muscle strengthening exercise group was significantly increased more than the control group(P<.05) and MPT of the respiratory muscle strengthening exercise group was significantly increased more than the control group(P<.05). We found that the respiratory muscle strengthening exercise is useful to improve the respiratory capacity and phonation in children with spasticity cerebral palsy.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the reason why puberphonia patients revisit hospitals after completion of its treatment and the effect of visual voice therapy on voice improvement. The subject the study included are two puberphonia patients who had been diagnosed by laryngologists. The patients who were diagnosed as puberphonia by the laryngologist and treated by the a speech pathologist, completed their treatment and revisited hospital. The study used laryngoscopy, acoustic and aerodynamic analysis before and after voice treatment to investigate what change happens and why generalization of treatment effect did not occur naturally in the daily life. Their voices of pre-therapy and post-therapy were analyzed on the aspects of acoustics, aerodynamics and laryngeal endoscopy. As a result, it was found that fundamental frequency(Fo) was significantly lowered in respect of acoustic change and maximum phonation time(MPT) was increased to some extent in respect of aerodynamic change. In addition, there was a laryngoscopic change and commissure glottic chink disappeared generally in the phonation. The reason why the generalization did not occur naturally in one’s daily routine was mainly due to the fact that high-pitched voicing was used for a long time. Other than that reason, negative reaction or attitude of surrounding people and lack of confidence were to blame for failure of generalization.

Purpose : This study is to investigate the modulatory effects to the ultraviolet induced erythema of pain processing system. Methods : Thirty six healthy volunteers were divided into none treatment group (n=6), indomethacine group (n=6), subsensory level electrical stimulation group (n=6), sensory level electrical stimulation group (n=6), motor level electrical stimulation group (n=6), noxious level electrical stimulation group (n=6). Subjects were induced erythema for three times minimal erythema dose (MED) at upper arm of dermatome C6 level. Each experimental group had mechanical pain threshold (MPT), electrical pain threshold (EPT), thermal pain threshold (TPT). Results : This study revealed that we observed that pain thresholds were significantly correlated with each other in pain processing system. The effect of electrical stimulation levels evaluates were shown to be significant differences pain control effect in electrical stimulation group (sensory, motor level electrical stimulation groups) more than indomethacine group, subsensory level and control group. Conclusion : In this study, it was found that the effect of ultraviolet induced erythema of pain control by modulatory electrical stimulation.
Due to the fact that the ratio of their height to their openings is very large compared to normal beams, there are difficulties in the design and analysis of deep beams, which differ in behavior. In this study, the optimum horizontal and vertical reinforcement diameters of 5 different beams were determined by using genetic algorithms (GA) due to the openness/height ratio (L/h), loading condition and the presence of spaces in the body. In this study, the effect of different mutation operators and improved double times sensitive mutation (DTM) operator on GA's performance was investigated. In the study following random mutation (RM), boundary mutation (BM), non-uniform random mutation (NRM), Makinen, Periaux and Toivanen (MPT) mutation, power mutation (PM), polynomial mutation (PNM), and developed DTM mutation operators were applied to five deep beam problems were used to determine the minimum reinforcement diameter. The fitness values obtained using developed DTM mutation operator was higher than obtained from existing mutation operators. Moreover; obtained reinforcement weight of the deep beams using the developed DTM mutation operator lower than obtained from the existing mutation operators. As a result of the analyzes, the highest fitness value was obtained from the applied double times sensitive mutation (DTM) operator. In addition, it was found that this study, which was carried out using GAs, contributed to the solution of the problems experienced in the design of deep beams.
This study was purposed to introduce Korean Oro-motor Mechanism Screening Examination (KOMSE) and to provide the standardized scores taken from 120 normal adults aged $18{\sim}59$. KOMSE was composed of 13 items of structure, 17 items of function, 3 items of voice, and 14 items of regularity and accuracy of articulation during diadochokinesis. Additionally, maximum phonation time and diadochokinetic rates were measured. Total score of KOMSE is ranged from 0 to 200. It was significantly higher in the $50{\sim}59$ age group than in the $20{\sim}29$ age group, but was not significantly different in sex. MPT had a significant difference in sex, but no significant difference among different age groups. The rate of DDK was also had no significant difference among different age groups. However, some reducing trend in the rate of DDK was observed as age increased. KOMSE would be very helpful for SLPs to screen the abnormality of oro-motor mechanism.
The population of Korea is ageing as the number of elderly people increases due to improvements in health care and diet. Accordingly, it is expected that interest in how to live actively during the years after retirement and how to communicate effectively will increase the demand for voice improvement methods and technology. However, the criteria to evaluate the voice strength and characteristics of the elderly are lacking. In this study, we analyzed the acoustic characteristics of elderly women living in the community according to residential status and mental health status (e.g. depressive mood). Accordingly, we selected women (n=63) above the age of 65 age who were living in the Seoul metropolitan area and Daegu Gyeongbuk. The selected subjects were divided into two groups: a normal speaker group (n=40) and a speaker group comprised of those suffering from depressive mood (n=23). This study analyzed the voice characteristics of subjects based on collected data through the sustained phonation of the vowel /a/. It was shown that there were differences among MPT, F0, Jitter, Shimmer and NHR depending on location of residence but no difference with regard to depressive mood. Therefore, we must consider location of residence in elderly as the key factor in demonstrating the voice norms of seniors.
