  • Many process variables in modem manufacturing processes have influence on quality of products with complicated relationships. Therefore, it is necessary to control multiple quality variables in order to monitor abnormal signals in the processes. This study proposes an integrated procedure of self-organizing map (SOM) neural network and case-based reasoning (CBR) for multivariate process control. SOM generates patterns of quality variables. The patterns are compared with the reference patterns in order to decide whether their states are normal or abnormal using the goodness-of-fitness test. For validation, it generates artificial datasets consisting of six patterns, normal and abnormal patterns. Experimental results show that the abnormal patterns can be detected effectively. This study also shows that the CBR procedure enables to keep Type 2 error at very low level and reduce Type 1 error gradually, and then the proposed method can be a solution fur multivariate process control.

  • This paper explains the impact of frequency error on the performance of WCDMA mobile communication systems and what brings about the frequency error between the base station and the mobile station, and then presents automatic frequency error correction method in mobile receiver. On the basis of system requirement related to frequency stability, the integration test between the base station and the mobile station was accomplished. After applying automatic frequency error correction to mobile receiver, 4 Hz of frequency error at transmitting frequency was obtained. The result met frequency error requirement of ${\pm}$0.1 ppm(about ${\pm}$200 ㎐). Performance degradation due to frequency error was measured by means of Error Vector Magnitude(EVM) at transmitter and Ec/Io at receiver, respectively and then the interface requirement between Modem control signal and RF was suggested to improve the correctness of frequency error control.

  • This paper describes a real-time implementation of a GSM-EFR (Global System for Mobil communications Enhanced Full Rate) speech coder using OakDSP core; a 16bit fixed-point Digital Signal Processor (DSP) by DSP Group, Inc. The real-time implemented speech coder required about 24MIPS for computation and 7.06K words and 12.19K words for code and data memory, respectively. The implemented GSM-EFR speech coder passes all of test vectors provided by ETSI (European Telecommunication Standard Institute), and perceptual speech quality measurement using MNB algorithm shows that the quality of the GSM-EFR speech coder is similar to the one of 32kbps ADPCM. The real-time implemented GSM-EFR speech coder which is the highest bit-rate mode of the GSM-AMR speech coder will be used as the basic structure of the GSM-AMR speech coder which is embedded in MODEM ASIC of IMT2000 asynchronous mode mobile station.

  • 1) Background: The hospitals of modem society, like any other business entities, have to constantly strive to secure their survival from aggressive changes and competition outside. In this unstable environment, effective leadership is one of the most effective strategies for securing organization's growth as well as stability. This study investigated types of leadership (transformational or transactional) that is dominant in medical record departments and compared it's effects on organizational commitment and job satisfaction of their organizational members by types. 2) Method: A questionnaire was developed and mailed to all medical record administrators working at general hospitals throughout the country except department directors (N=450). Of these, 150 useable questionnaires were returned and analyzed by t-test, multiple regression analysis using SPSS. 3) Results: The organizational commitment and job satisfaction were a little bit higher than moderate level, and that of leadership perceived by medical record administrators was also in moderate level throughout types. Significant characteristics (positively) related to organizational commitment and job satisfaction by univariate analysis were marital status (married), position (middle management) and both type of leadership. However transformational leadership was the only significant factor in leadership styles after considering all the factors related to organizational commitment and job satisfaction together by multivariate analysis. 4) Conclusion: The average organizational commitment and job satisfaction of medical record administrators was just in moderate level. Efforts should be made to increase them by improving leadership capacity of medical record directors, primarily by using transformational leadership approach.

  • While the sequencing of several genomes was underway, several advanced techniques in genetics, molecular biology and protein chemistry emerged. Within the notritional sciences, while the focus on nutrition education, epidemiology and public health aspects remains essential; it is crucial to incorporate the new advances in gene and protein discovery in nutritional studies. Nutrition is a discipline that has always integrated social, biochemical and physiological sciences from the studies at the molecule level to studies at the population level. for this reason, nutritionists are in a prime position to readily incorporate the current genomics approaches in nutrition research. All the available analytical techniques can and should be used in modem nutritional sciences. These include genetics, genomics, proteomics and metabolomics which also require integration and use of bioinformatics and computational methods for data analysis and management. These applications will be briefly reviewed with a primary focus on what the genomics and genetics approaches offer to nutritionists. We will use one of our research focus areas to illustrate uses of some of these applications in obesity-hypertension research. Our central hypothesis is that adipose tissue is an endocrine organ that plays a major role in obesity and related hypertension. We are primarily studying the renin angiotensin system (RAS). We provide evidence from our own studies and others for the paracrine as well as endocrine role of adipocyte-derived angiotensin II in adipocyte gene expression, adiposity and blood pressure regulation. Both cell culture studies as well as knockout and transgenic mice models are used to test our hypothesis. Genomics and proteomics technologies are currently developed to complement our physiological and molecular studies on the RAS and for a fine analysis of this system and its function in health and disease.

  • In this paper, we present an implementation and it's real-sea test of an underwater acoustic data communication system, which allows the system to reduce complexity and increase robustness in time variant underwater environments. For easy adaptation to complicated and time-varying environments of the ocean, all-digital transmitter and receiver systems were implemented. For frame synchronization the CAZAC sequence was used, and QPSK modulation/ demodulation method with carrier frequency of 25kHz and a bandwidth of 5kHz were applied to generate 10kbps transmission rate including overhead. To improve transmission quality, we used several techniques and algorithms such as adaptive beamforming, adaptive equalizer, and convolution coding/Viterbi decoding. for the verification of the system performance, measurement of BER has been done in a very shallow water with depth of 8m at JangMok, Geoje. During the experiment, image data were successfully transmitted up to about 7.4km.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore perceptions and awareness of traditional Korean wedding ceremonies. For this purpose, I began a literature review and investigated the consciousness about traditional Korean wedding ceremonies among unmarried people. As a result, I discussed the future of Korean wedding culture. Data were analyzed from the sample of 206 unmarried people collected from April 20 to Jun 13, 2009. The data were analyzed by making use of the SPSS program and included Frequency analysis, ANOVA and the $\chi^2$-test. The summary of these results was as follows. First, unmarried people want a special wedding ceremony. They think the appropriate age of marriage is between their 20s and mid-30s. The traditional wedding ceremony is changing, but they think that the meanings behind them will continue. If they married a foreigner, they would want to have a modem wedding ceremony and each of their traditional wedding ceremonies. Second, they have no educational experience about traditional wedding culture(85.4%). Some people who have educational experience learned about traditional wedding culture from their parents or grandparents. Third, most traditional wedding procedures were influenced by Korean customs. Most men did not know about traditional Korean wedding procedures. But if they get married, they will follow traditional wedding procedures (M=3.35). In the future, we will have to succeed Korean wedding culture, for example, Peau back(幣帛), Ham(函), and traditional wedding ceremony.

  • This paper presents an efficient frame synchronizer architecture using the common autocorrelator for Digital Video Broadcasting via Satellite, Second generation(DVB-S2). To achieve the satisfactory performance under severe channel conditions and the efficient hardware resource utilization of functional synchronization blocks which have been implemented, we propose a new efficient common autocorrelator structure. The proposed architecture can improve the performance of the frame and frequency synchronizer since each block operates jointly in parallel and significantly reduce the complexity of the frame synchronizer. Hence, The proposed architecture can ensure the decrease by about 92% multipliers and 81% adders compared with the direct implementation. Moreover, it has been thoroughly verified with an FPGA board and R&STM SFU broadcast test equipment and consists of 29,821 LUTs with XilinxTM Virtex IV LX200.

  • Recently, the evolution in production techniques (e.g. high-speed milling), the complex shapes involved in modem production design, and the ever increasing pressure for higher productivity demand a drastic improvement of the dynamic behavior of the machine tool axes used in production machinery. And also machine tools of multi functional and minimized parts are increasingly required as demand of higher accurate in some fields such as electronic and optical components etc. The accuracy and the productivity of machined parts are natural to depend on the linear system of machine tools. The complex workpiece surfaces encountered in present-day products and generated by CAD systems are to be transformed into tool paths for machine tools. The more complex these tool paths and the higher the speed requirements, the higher the acceleration requirements are needed to the machine tool axes and the motion control system, and the more difficult it is to meet the requirements. The traditional indirect drive design for high speed machine tools, which consists of a rotary motor with a ball-screw transmission to the slide, is limited in speed, acceleration, and accuracy. The direct drive design of machine tool axes. which is based on linear motors and which recently appeared on the market. is a viable candidate to meet the ever increasing demands, because of these advantages such as no backlash, less friction, no mechanical limitations on acceleration and velocity and mechanical simplicity. Therefore performance tests were carried out to machine tool axes based on linear motor. Especially, dynamic characteristics were investigated through circular test.

  • This paper describe a method for measuring line impedance as a function of frequency for an energized powerline in normal operation. A small sinusoidal signal of a powerline communication utility frequency $30khz\~1Mhz$ band is continuously injected into the line, and a implemented impedance analyzer calculates the indoor powerline channel impedance from the measured magnitude and phase of resulting voltage and current. The impedance measurement is executed over a range of frequencies to produce a wideband impedance versus frequency characteristic. Implemented impedance analyzer can analysis powerline communication environments measuring line impedance due to load caused in indoor. And measured analysis information through the database can use to evaluate performance of modem and to decide test environment standard.
