Based on the continuum approach, an investigation is made to get the forces and displacements of laterally loaded outrigger braced structures with a pair of coupled cores, and to show the effect of stiffening outriggers on the behavior of the structure. From the condition that the rotation of the core at the outrigger level is matched with the rotation of the corresponding outrigger, the outrigger restraining moment is derived analytically. From this, the core moment diagram, the column axial forces, and the horizontal displacements of the structure may be determined. Comparisons with the results by the program MIDAS-GEN for the structural models, have shown that this analysis can give reasonably accurate results for outrigger-braced structures with a pair of coupled cores. And a lateral displacement at the top of the structure is influenced by the outrigger location than the core location. Although the formulae are accurate only for idealized outrigger braced structures, they have a useful practical purpose in providing a guide to the behavior, and for making approximate estimates of the forces and displacements, in practical outrigger braced structures with a pair of coupled cores.

This study presents deflection analysis of long span structures for pedestrian bridge on crossroads. For long span structures, the size of structural members should be determined considering the esthetic view and vehicle below the structures. As a result, the slenderness ratio of members is increased and the structure may be suffered from significant deflection. The under-tensioned system on lower part of the structure, is applied in order to reduce the deflection and the size of members. In this regard, the under-tensioned system enables the load of upper parts to carη to the end of beam by means of tensional force in cable. In addition, effectiveness of under-tensioned system can be different depending on the size of cable, the number and spacing of posts. This study is performed with conforming the effect by analytical various parameters (size of cable, number and spacing of post). Dead and live loads is supposed to apply in the slab, and the analytical result by MIDAS program are presented addressing the effect of the under-tensioned system.

In the conventional outrigger system, the outriggers are located in the planes of the core walls and this system has disadvantage of obstructing flexibility in the interior layout. But thc facade riggers in the structure uc located In the exterior frames in the direction of the lateral loading. The interaction between the traced frames and facade riggers is through the floor diaphragms adjacent to the chords of the riggers. This paper presents an approximate analysis technique lot preliminary analysis of multiple facade rigger stiffened braced frames in tall buildings subjected to uniformly and triangularly distributed loads as well as a lateral point load at the top of the structure. Comparisons with the results by the program MIDAS for the structural models have shown that this analysis can give reasonably accurate results for highrise braced frames with multiple facade riggers. The method allows a simple procedure for obtaining the optimum level of the facade riggers in addition to a rapid assessment of the influence of the facade riggers on the performance of the highrise structure such as the reduction in lateral deflection at the top and the overturning moment at the base of the braced frame.

A simplified analysis method is first proposed in order to determine an optimized initial shape of cable-stayed bridges including all unstrained element lengths without using complicated nonlinear FE analysis. The unstrained-length based FE method is then presented using the unstrained lengths by the simplified analysis. To demonstrate validity and accuracy of the proposed method, Incheon bridge model having the fabrication camber is constructed and initial shaping analysis is performed using the presented method and commercial finite element analysis program, MIDAS. Resultantly it is shown that the initial solutions by the proposed algorithm are well optimized and in good agreement with those by MIDAS except for axial displacements of the main member.

3D time history analysis was performed on vertical shaft-tunnel connection to provide insight into the dynamic stress-strain behavior of the connection considering the effects of soil layers, periodic characteristics and wave direction of earthquakes. MIDAS GTS NX based on FEM (Finite Element Method) was used for this study. From this study, it is revealed that the maximum displacement occurred at the upper part of the connection when the long period seismic waves propagate through the tunnel direction in soft ground. Also, stress concentration occurs due to different behaviors of vertical shaft and tunnel, and the stress concentration could be influence for safety on the connection. The results of this study could be useful for the seismic performance design of vertical shaft-tunnel connection.
Purpose: In this study, the safety management method supplementing the field displacement prediction management technique was performed using the numerical analysis. Method: The analysis was performed using MIDAS GTS / NX program based on the finite element method (FEM). Approximating the displacement data and displacement trend as close as possible to the collapse site, the collapse prevention method was applied after estimating the cause of collapse. Result: The cause of the collapse was estimated by soil parametar, one of the results obtained by performing the Back-analysis. As a result, it was confirmed that the free length of the anchor was insufficient, and the free length of the anchor was changed by the collapse prevention method, and the displacement was significantly reduced. Conclusion: If Back-analysis technique is used in field management, estimating the cause of collapse and suggesting a reasonable collapse prevention measure will help to reduce collase.

In regard to fill loading structures such as bridge abutments and retaining walls on soft ground, the soft ground undergoes excessive deformation, which causes the lateral movement of the ground, resulting in increased risk of much damage. In this study, a centrifuge model test was conducted to check the possibility of lateral movement of a bridge abutment during back filling in a field, and a numerical analysis considering the lateral movement of the bridge abutment under the influence of the counterweight fill method applied during construction was carried out by using MIDAS/GTS as the FEM(Finite Element Method) program. The results of this study showed that the lateral movement of the abutment can exceed the allowable lateral movement value(15mm), and that the counterweight fill method was effective for the stability of the lateral movement.

This study purposed to investigate the optimal outrigger location in tall building with cap truss after a structural schematic design of 80 stories building was performed by using MIDAS-Gen. In this paper, the main parameters of structural analysis were the outrigger location and stiffness of main structural elements (outrigger, exterior column, shear wall etc). In order to search the optimal outrigger position in high-rise building with cap truss, we analysed and examined the lateral displacement of top floor which is one of the very important considering factors of tall building structural design. The paper results indicated that the outrigger location and the stiffness of main structural elements such as outrigger, exterior column and shear wall had an effect on the optimal outrigger location. And it is verified that the study results provided the basic engineering data for fixing the most optimal outrigger location for minimizing the lateral displacement of tall building.
In this study, it was studied on arching characteristics of a grand section tunnel with pre-steel-rib nail reinforcement. In this study, we examine the adaptation of tunnel plan and the case which is based on the strengthening method for preexistence tunnel and other pre-steel-rib nail while the upper part of cover depth is low or soil condition is bad. When the pre-steel-rib nail as new technology and method reinforces the foundation placed of grand section tunnel, it is much better in strengthening effect, safety and effectiveness than the conventional one. After investigation about the plan pre-steel-rib nail method, construction case and calibration data, it was confirmed and examined about the upper part of tunnel for strengthening the pre-steel-rib nail thereby arching characteristics of grand section tunnel using MIDAS/GTS finite element program. Moreover we present the method that could upgrade the accurate installation interval and adaptation method for strengthening effect to adapt the pre-steel-rib nail method in a foundation placed over a tunnel.

This paper presents a matrix analysis to get the torsional behavior of core structures with torsional reinforcements. Based on simplified assumptions, formulae for the forces and displacements of cote structures subjected to three typical load cases, i.e. uniformly distributed torque, triangularly distributed torque and a concentrated torque at the top of the structure, are derived analytically. The behavior of the cote according to the variation of reinforcement locations is investigated to estimate the optimum locations of reinforcements to minimize the core rotations and bimoments. The results by the program MIDAS-GEN have shown that this analysis can give quite satisfactory results for structural models with torsional reinforcements. Although three dimensional analysis by computer has come within reach as a normal structural design procedure, its use as an optimization tool may not be desirable in view of the expense and time required. Formulae that we presented here can be used to estimate the torsional rotations and forces of practical cote structures at the preliminary design stages.
