Time Slot Exchange Protocol in a Reservation Based MAC for MANET

  • Recently, much attention to a self-organizing mobile ad-hoc network is escalating along with progressive deployment of wireless networks in our everyday life. Being readily deployable, the MANET (mobile ad hoc network) can find its applications to emergency medical service, customized calling service, group-based communications, and military purposes. In this paper we investigate a time slot exchange problem found in the time slot based MAC, that is designed for IEEE 802.11b interfaces composing a MANET. The paper provides a method to maintain the quality of voice call by providing a new time slot when the channel assigned for that time slot gets noisy with interferences induced from other nodes, which belong to the same and/or other subgroups. In order to assess the performance of the proposed algorithm, a set of simulations using the OPNET modeler has been performed assuming that the IEEE 802.11b interfaces are operating under a modified MAC, which is a time slot based reservation MAC implemented in the PCF part of the superframe. In a real-time voice call service over a MANET of a size 500 ${\times}$ 500 meter squares with the number of nodes up to 100, the simulation results are collected and analyzed with respect to the packet loss rate and packet delay. The results show us that the proposed time slot exchange protocol improves the quality of voice call over that of plain DCF.

  • MANET has the advantage of having the flexibility to build easily a network in a difficult situation that builds a wired network. But, data transmission errors by movement of nodes and eavesdropping by wireless communications have become a problem of security. Authentication service is the most essential in order to overcome these problems and operate network stably. In this paper, we propose 3-tiers authentication structure to exclude of malicious node and operate stable network through more systematic and thorough node authentication. After network is composed into a cluster, cluster head which play CA role is elected. Among these, the highest-CA is elected. The highest-CA receives certificates to cluster head and the cluster head evaluates trust value of their member nodes. Authentication technique which issues member node key is used. We compared PSS and experimented to evaluate performance of proposed scheme in this paper and efficiency of the proposed technique through experience was confirmed.

An Improvement of Fault Tolerant for Routing using Secondary Header in CBRP (CBRP에서 보조헤더를 이용한 라우팅 고장 극복 개선)

  • Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a network architecture which has no backborn network and is deployed temporarily and rapidly in emergency or war without fixed mobile infrastructures. All communications between network entities are carried in ad-hoc networks over the wireless medium. Due to the radio communications being extremely vulnerable to propagation impairments, connectivity between network nodes is not guaranteed. Therefore, previously developed routing algorithms in wired networks cannot be used. And many new algorithms have been undergone. This study proposes the Secondary Header approach to the cluster based routing protocol (CBRP). In case, the main header becomes abnormal status so that the main header can not participate the communications between network entities, the secondary header immediately replaces the primary header without selecting process of the new primary header. The performances of proposed algorithm CBRP-SH(Cluster Based Routing Protocol using Secondary Header) are compared with CBRP and results are presented in order to show the effectiveness of the algorithm.

  • It comes into the spotlight as the new Blue Ocean in which the connected car industry in which the car and mobile communication technology is convergence. All sorts of infortainments services connecting with the portable electronic device(Smart phone, tablet PC, and MP3 player) and car are rapidly grown. The Connected car emphasizes the vehicle connectivity with the concept that the car has communication with the around on a real time basis and it provides the safety and expedience to the operator and using the thing of Internet (IoT) in the car and supports the application, presently, the entertainment service including the real-time Navigation, parking assistant function, not only the remote vehicle control and management service but also Email, multimedia streaming service, SNS and with the platform. Intelligent vehicle network is studied as the kind according to MANET(Mobile Ad Hoc Network) for the safety operation of the cars of the road and improving the efficiency of the driving.

An Efficient Cluster Routing Protocol Based on 2-level Tree for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks (무선 애드 혹 네트워크에서 에너지 효율적인 2-level 트리 기반의 클러스터 라우팅 프로토콜)

  • We proposed a 2 level tree based cluster based routing protocol for mobile ad hoc networks. it is our crucial goal to establish improved clustering's structure in order to extend average node life-time and elevate the average packet delivery ratio. Because of insufficient wireless resources and energy, the method to form and manage clusters is useful for increasing network stability. but cluster-head fulfills roles as a host and a router in clustering protocol of Ad hoc networks environment. Therefore energy exhaustion of cluster-head causes communication interruption phenomenon. Effective management of cluster-head is key-point which determines the entire network performance. The scheme focuses on improving the performance the life time of the network and throughput through the management of cluster-heads and its neighbor nodes. In simulation, we demonstrated that it would obtain averagely better 17% performance than LS2RP.

PCBRP : Improved Paired Cluster-Based Routing Protocol in The Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (PCBRP : 모바일 애드혹 네트워크에서 클러스터 쌍을 이용한 효율적인 Cluster-Based Routing Protocol)

  • In MANET, frequent movement of nodes causes the dynamic network topology changes. Therefore the routing protocol, which is very stable to effectively respond the changes of the network changes, is required. Moreover, the existing cluster-based routing protocol, that is the hybrid approach, has routing delay due to the re-electing of the cluster header. In addition, the routing table of CBRP has all only one hop distant neighbor nodes. PCBRP, proposed in this paper, ties two clusters in one pair of clusters to make longer radius. Then the pair of the cluster headers manages and operates corresponding member nodes. When they route nodes in the paired cluster internally, PCBRP reduces the delay by requesting a route. Therefore PCBRP shows improved total delay of the network and improved performance of packet transmitting rate.

  • A Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a collection of wireless mobile nodes dynamically self-organizing in arbitrary and temporary network topologies without the use of any existing network infrastructure. The AODV (Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector) Protocol is one of the typical reactive routing protocols, in that mobile nodes initiate routing activities only in the presence of data packets in need of a route. In this paper, we focus upon the local repair mechanism of AODV. When a link is broken, the upstream node of the broken link repairs the route to the destination by initiating a local route discovery process. The process involves the flooding of AODV control messages in every node within a radius of the length from the initiating node to the destination. In this paper, we propose an efficient local repair scheme for AODV called AFLRS (AODV-based Fast Local Repair Scheme). AFLRS utilizes the existing routing information in the intermediate nodes which have been on the active route to the destination before a link break occurs. AFLRS can reduce the flooding range of AODV control messages and the route recovery time because it can repair route through the intermediate nodes. For the performance evaluation of the proposed AFLRS, we have simulated the local repair mechanisms by using NS2 and AODV-UU. The performance results show that AFLRS can achieve faster route recovery than the local repair mechanism of AODV.

  • MANET(Mobile Ad Hoc Network)이란 어떠한 기반 구조나 중앙의 관리없이 동적으로 임시 네트워크를 형성하는 무선 mobile node의 집합이다. 이 논문에서는 MANET에서 근원지 node가 목적지 node로의 route를 발견하기 위해 전체 네트워크를 대상으로 route request 패킷을 flooding 할 경우 결과적으로 네트워크의 성능을 저하시킨다는 점과 mobile node가 제한된 양의 power를 가지고 있다는 점에 초점을 맞추어 연구가 진행되었다. 다시 말해 이 논문에서 제안된 ZTPA 라우팅 프로토콜은 기존의 ZRP를 기본으로 서로 겹치지 않는 격자 모양의 zone으로 네트워크가 구성된다. 또한 proactive 라우팅이 이루어지는 IARP에서 route 설정시 현재 node에 남아있는 power를 고려한 CMMBCR 라우팅 프로토콜이 사용되며 이와 더불어 두 개의 임계치(SVSZ, FVSZ)를 사용함으로써 설정된 route의 수명을 연장하고 신뢰성 있는 데이터 전송이 가능하여 전체적인 네트워크의 성능 향상을 야기할 수 있다.

  • Currently, the IETF group is working on service differentiation in the Internet. However, in wireless environments such as Ad-hoc networks, where channel conditions are variable and bandwidth is scarce, the Internet differentiated services are suboptimal without lower layers' support. The IEEE 802.11 standard for Wireless LANs is the most widely used WLAN standard today. 1t has a mode of operation that can be used to provide service differentiation, but it has been shown to perform badly. In this paper, we present a new service differentiation scheme for support QoS in the wireless IEEE 802.11, which is based on a multiple queuing system to provide priority of user's flow. We simulate and analyze the performance of our algorithm and compare its performance with the original IEEE 802.11b protocol. Simulation results show that our approach increases overall throughput in the MAC layer.

VoIP service performance improvements of MANET based on Diffserv (Diffserv기반 MANET에서 VoIP 서비스 성능 개선)

  • Study for VoIP in MANET is mainly focused on transmission performance or voice quality of VoIP traffic as single traffic. In this study, VoIP performance is analyzed of MANET which has several types of traffics. Diffserv scheme is used to process the traffics. It is showed that VoIP traffic performance is improved by differv scheme, as a result of analysis for VoIP and FTP traffic. Simulator, which is implemented with NS-2 package and VoIP patch, is used.
