  • The effect of loading speed on soil failure was studied by using a high speed triaxial compression test. Tests were conducted at 0.35-6.2m/s loading speed to compress soil specimens of sandy loam at different moisture contents. The axial stress at fracture increased with increase in loading speed up to certain critical speeds, however they decreased as the speed up to certain critical speeds, however they decreased as the speed increased further. Experiments were also conducted in the field of sandy loam soil with the vibrating tillage tool. Tests were done at 0.33-0.85m/s tractor speed oscillating frequency 13.7hz and oscillating amplitude 59mm. The maximum oscillating velocity of tillage tool was 2.5m/s. It was observed that for the oscillating operation, initially draft slightly increased with increase in forward speed and then it decreased .For the non-oscillating operation, draft increased continuously with increase in forward speed. Approach of studying soil failure in the laboratory test can be related to the field experiments.

  • This paper describes modeling & simulation(M&S) model for dynamic analysis of helicopter rotor blades. Simulation model is developed using Dymola tool which implements the open source language - Modelica. Modelica is appropriate for developing multibody dynamic analysis model. To develop an M&S model efficiently, model based systems engineering(MBSE) is applied. Some diagrams such as requirement diagram, block definition diagram and sequence diagram etc. are drawn to capture the concept of M&S model. This activity is done utilizing the open source tool - Papyrus.

  • SUS304 is wellknown as difficult-to-machine materials. It is easy to appear workhardened, and workhardening is one of the causes of groove wear on the tool. In this paper, the author would like to compare the width of flank wear with that of groove wear, and to find whether the groove wear can be used as a criterion of a tool life. The design of the twelve tests provides three levels for each variable (speed: 200m/min, 118m/min, 70m/min; feed: 0.3mm/rev, 0.17mm/rev, 0.1mm/rev; depth of cut: 0.4mm, 0.28mm, 0.2mm). The study of tool-life testing by statistical technique follows usual most scientific sequence. So the tool-life predicting equation is calculated by the method of least squares. The overall adequacy of the model can be verified by the analysis of variance. The results obtained are as follows : 1) When SUS304 is cut in 200(m/min), the width of flank wear is much larger than that of groove wear. 2) In cutting speed 118m/min, flank wear is a little larger than groove wear and in the cutting speed 70m/min, the latter is a little larger so that it is reasonable to determine the tool life according the crierion by groove wear in the low cutting speed (less than 70m/min). 3) Owing to the burr the depth of engagement along the cutting edge is extended toward the shank.

  • Purpose: In this paper, we propose calculation methods of Maintenance Float (M/F). Results of each method are compared and verified by using commercial tool (OPUS Suite). As modern weapon systems become more expensive, we need to find the most economical and efficient method to achieve the target operational availability (Ao). Methods: Three kinds of methods (Considering the number of CSP, Applying the Poisson distribution, and Applying M&S Tool) are used to find the number of M/F. Three methods (Considering the number of CSP, Applying the Poisson distribution, and Applying M&S Tool) were used to estimate the required number of M/F. The analysis results were verified by SIMLOX. The cost of equipment calculated by each analysis method was compared and the cause of the difference was analyzed. Conclusion: Ao and cost must be considered to find the optimal number of M/F. In general, it costs more to increase availability. But the cost is not necessarily proportional to Ao. Therefore, it is better to compare the calculation method and determine the final MF quantity.

  • This paper describes the development of a software tool LCD FRAME that may guide the analyzing process for the electrical characteristics and the design procedure for constructing the thin film transistor liquid crystal display(TFT/LCD) packages. LCD FRAME can analyze its electrical characteristics from the TFT/LCD system package configuration, and provide the design variables to meet the user's requirements. These analysis and design procedure can be done in real time according to the model at simplified package level of TFT/LCD. LCD_FRAME is an object-oriented expert system which considers package elements as objects. With this LCD_FRAME software tool, we analyzed the I-V characteristics of a-Si TFT and its signal distortion which has maximum 1.58 $\mu$s delay along the panel scan line of the package containing 480 ${\times}$ 240 pixels. We designed the package structure of maximum 6.35 $\mu$s signal delays and 3360 ${\times}$ 780 pixels, and as a result we showed that the proper structure of 20 $\mu$m scan line width, 60$\mu$m panel TFT gate width and 8 $\mu$m gate length. This LCD_FRAME software tool provides results of the analysis and the design in the form of input files of the SPICE program, text data files, and graphic charts.
