The Regulatory Role of Serratia marcescens Threonine Dehydratase in a Isoleucine Biosynthesis (이소루신 생합성 과정에서 Serratia marcescens Threonine Dehydratase의 조절 역할)

  • The effects of branched chain amino acids and metabolites in growth media on the biosynthesis of Serratia marcescens threonine dehydratase activity were examined. The enzyme activity was decreased above 60% by leucine among the range from 1 to 20 mM, and the enzyme activity was decreased approximately 20% by a low concentration of valine (1 to 4 mM), but not affected at high concentration (20 mM). However, the enzyme activity was increased approximately 100 to 140% by a low concentration of isoleucine (1 to 4 mM), but decreased approximately 25 to 80% at high concentration (15 to 30 mM). The enzyme activity was decreased by 25 and 58% by the simultaneous addition of all three branched chain amino acids at 2 and 10 mM concentration, respectively, but increased by 75 and 50% by the combination addition of isoleucine plus valine and isoleucine plus leucine at 2 mM, respectively. cAMP was decreased the enzyme activity approximately 10 to 40% by a low concentration (1 to 2 mM), but increased by 80% at high concentration (10 mM). These data suggest that S. marcescens threonine dehydratase should be multivalently repressed by branched chain amino acids, but positively regulated by a low isoleucine concentration and may play a regulatory role in an isoleucine biosynthetic pathway unlike the E. coli K-12 enzyme.

  • The set of all $m\;{\times}\;n$ matrices with entries in $\mathbb{Z}_+$ is de­noted by $\mathbb{M}{m{\times}n}(\mathbb{Z}_+)$. We say that a linear operator T on $\mathbb{M}{m{\times}n}(\mathbb{Z}_+)$ is a (U, V)-operator if there exist invertible matrices $U\;{\in}\; \mathbb{M}{m{\times}n}(\mathbb{Z}_+)$ and $V\;{\in}\;\mathbb{M}{m{\times}n}(\mathbb{Z}_+)$ such that either T(X) = UXV for all X in $\mathbb{M}{m{\times}n}(\mathbb{Z}_+)$, or m = n and T(X) = $UX^{t}V$ for all X in $\mathbb{M}{m{\times}n}(\mathbb{Z}_+)$. In this paper we show that a linear operator T preserves the rank of matrices over the nonnegative integers if and only if T is a (U, V)­operator. We also obtain other characterizations of the linear operator that preserves rank of matrices over the nonnegative integers.

  • A precise echosounding system to investigate the topographical characteristics of the coastal fishing ground was composed of a public-DGPS receiver, a single beam echosounder and a survey software. To confirm the usefulness of the system, a set-net fishing ground and the distribution of artificial reefs were surveyed. The results obtained are as follows : 1. The 2-D positioning error of the public-DGPS receiver with a DGPS mode and a GPS mode was 5.47 m, 7.03 m, respectively. 2. The experimented set-net fishing ground was located on the level ground at the depth of 9-10 m, a small size valley 1-2 m deep and approximately 10 m wide was found at a distance of 120 m from the set-net to the south. 3. In the artificial reefs' water area near the Jaran Bay, it was confirmed that twenty rectangular artificial reefs were established by the piece at the depth of 15-25 m and a natural reef 5-8 m high on the sea bed was located near the group of artificial reefs. 4. It was confirmed that the precise echosounding system was a useful tool in the pre-study to choice an appropriate water area to provide the artificial reef.

Plant-derived PAP proteins fused to immunoglobulin A and M Fc domains induce anti-prostate cancer immune response in mice

  • In this study, recombinant Fc-fused Prostate acid phosphatase (PAP) proteins were produced in transgenic plants. PAP was fused to immunoglobulin (Ig) A and M Fc domain (PAP-IgA Fc and PAP-IgM Fc), which were tagged to the ER retention sequence KDEL to generate PAP-IgA FcK and PAP-IgM FcK. Agrobacterium-mediated transformation was performed to produce transgenic tobacco plants expressing four recombinant proteins. Genomic PCR and RT-PCR analyses confirmed the transgene insertion and mRNA transcription of PAP-IgA Fc, PAP-IgM Fc, PAP-IgA FcK, and PAP-IgM FcK in tobacco plant leaves. Western blot confirmed the expression of PAP-IgA Fc, PAP-IgM Fc, PAP-IgA FcK, and PAP-IgM FcK proteins. SEC-HPLC and Bio-TEM analyses were performed to confirm the size and shape of the plant-derived recombinant PAP-Fc fusion proteins. In mice experiments, the plant-derived IgA and IgM Fc fused proteins induced production of total IgGs including IgG1 against PAP. This result suggests that IgA and IgM Fc fusion can be applied to produce recombinant PAP proteins as a prostate cancer vaccine in plant expression system.

  • The twisted cube has received great attention as an interconnection network of parallel systems because it has several superior properties, especially in diameter, to the hypercube. It was recently known that, for even m, a mesh of size $2{\times}2^m$ can be embedded into a twisted cube with dilation 1 and expansion 1 and a mesh of size $4{\times}2^m$ with dilation 1 and expansion 2 [Lai and Tsai, 2008]. However, as we know, it has been a conjecture that a mesh with more than eight rows and columns can be embedded into a twisted cube with dilation 1. In this paper, we show that a mesh of size $2^n{\times}2^m$ can be embedded into a twisted cube with dilation 1 and expansion $2^{n-1}$ for even m and with dilation 1 and expansion $2^n$ for odd m where $1{\leq}n{\leq}m$.

  • A convex $RP^n$-structure on a smooth anifold M is a representation of M as a quotient of a convex domain $\Omega \subset RP^n$ by a discrete group $\Gamma$ of collineations of $RP^n$ acting properly on $\Omega$. When M is a closed surface of genus g > 1, then the equivalence classes of such structures form a moduli space $B(M)$ homeomorphic to an open cell of dimension 16(g-1) (Goldman [2]). This cell contains the Teichmuller space $T(M)$ of M and it is of interest to know what of the rich geometric structure extends to $B(M)$. In [3], a symplectic structure on $B(M)$ is defined, which extends the symplectic structure on $T(M)$ defined by the Weil-Petersson Kahler form.

  • Let A denote the set {$a{\in}M_n{\mid}a{\geq}0$, $tr(a)=1$}, $St(M_n)$ the set of all states on $M_n$, and $PS(M_n)$ the set of all pure states on $M_n$. We show that there are one-to-one correspondences between A and $St(M_n)$, and between the set of all extreme points of A and $PS(M_n)$. We find a necessary and sufficient condition for a state on $M_{n1}{\oplus}{\cdots}{\oplus}M_{nk}$ to be extended to a pure state on $M_{n1}+{\cdots}+_{nk}$.

A High Power 60 GHz Push-Push Oscillator Using Metamorphic HEMT Technology (Metamorphic HEMT를 이 용한 60 GHz 대역 고출력 Push-Push 발진기)

  • This paper reports a high power 60 GHz push-push oscillator fabricated using $0.12{\mu}m$ metamorphic high electron-mobility transistors(mHEMTs). The devices with a $0.12{\mu}m$ gate-length exhibited good DC and RF characteristics such as a maximum drain current of 700 mA/mm, a peak gm of 660 mS/mm, an $f_T$ of 170 GHz, and an $f_{MAX}$ of more than 300 GHz. By combining two sub-oscillators having $6{\times}50{\mu}m$ periphery mHEMT, the push-push oscillator achieved a 6.3 dBm of output power at 59.5 GHz with more than - 35 dBc fundamental suppression. The phase noise of - 81.5 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset was measured. This is one of the highest output power obtained using mHEMT technology without buffer amplifier, and demonstrates the potential of mHEMT technology for cost effective millimeter-wave commercial applications.
