  • The paper deals with asymtotic stabillity of nonlinear nonautinomous systems by Lyapunov's direct method. The proposed Lyapunov-like function V(t, x) needs not be continuous in t and Lipschitz in x in a Banach space. The class of systems considered is allowed to be nonautonomous and infinite-dimensional and we relax the boundedness, the Lipschitz assumption on the system and the definite decrescent condition on the Lyapunov function.

  • Most of the theorems of nonlinear stability is based on the Lyapunov stability theory. The Lyapunov function method is the most well-known and provides precise and rigorous theoretical backgrounds. However, tile conventional approach to direct stability analysis has been performed without taking account of damping effects. For accurate stability analysis of nonlinear systems, it is required to consider the damping effects. This paper presents a new method to derive a group of Lyapunov functions to reflect the damping effects by considering the integral relationships of the system governing equations. This method tan be utilized as a powerful tool to determine the region of attraction.

  • To control the depth of an underwater glider, a control method by using Lyapunov's direct method is proposed. The underwater glider has a torpedo-shape hull, a movable mass in the hull, and an inflatable buoyancy bag in the hull, but doesn't have large wings that increase the lift force for the conventional underwater glider. The control laws to adjust the position of the movable mass and the mass of the inflatable buoyancy bag are derived. For a selected speed and an angle of attack, we simulated the operation of the underwater glider using Matlab/Simulink. The efficiency of the proposed controller is shown in the fact that the control effort is active during only a short period of time when the zigzag trajectory is changed from downward to upward or vice versa.

  • This paper proposes a novel direct adaptive pole placement control algorithm which can be applied to continuous time nonminimum phase systems. The algorithm is based on Lyapunov's direct method. By introducing an auxiliary signal, a minimal error model is constructed in state space. Using the error model an estimation law is obtained via Lyapunov's second stability theorem. The global stability of the overall system is established.

  • The convergence analysis of adavtive control schemes has been studied over the past decades, but the importance of structure to fast conversgece of adaptive control systems is still a controversial issue. This paper deals with the relative improvement of the exponential rate of convergence in adaptive error models. The Lyapunov's direct method is applied to adaptive control systems in order to improve the convergence rate by modifying the feedback structure of the error systems. Some simulation examples are illustrated to show fast convergence and robustness of these schemes.

  • We consider a controlled nonlinear mechanical system described by the Lagrange equations. We determine the control forces $Q_1$ and the restrictions for the perturbations $Q_2$ acting on the mechanical system which allow to guarantee the asymptotic stability of the program motion of the system. We solve the problem of stabilization by the direct Lyapunov's method and the method of limiting functions and systems. In this case we can use the Lyapunov's functions having nonpositive derivatives. The following examples are considered: stabilization of program motions of mathematical pendulum with moving point of suspension and stabilization of program motions of rigid body with fixed point.

  • In this paper, the stability problem for singular bilinear system is investigated. We present state feedback control laws for two classes of singular bilinear plants. Asymptotic stability of the closed-loop systems is derived by employing singular Lyapunov's direct method. The primary advantage of our approach lies in its simplicity. In order to verify effectiveness of the results, two numerical examples are given.

  • This paper provides an overview of the basics and recent studies of Lyapunov-based nonlinear adaptive control, the aim of which is to improve or maintain the performance and stability of the closed-loop system by cancelling out the presumable uncertainties in the nonlinear system dynamics. The design principles are essentially based on Lyapunov's direct method. In this survey, we provide a comprehensive overview of Lyapunov-based nonlinear adaptive control techniques with simplified effective design examples, which are to be elaborated as related recent results are gradually shown. The scope of the survey contains research on singularity problems in adaptive control, the techniques to deal with linearly and nonlinearly parameterized uncertainties, robust neuro-adaptive control, and adaptive control methodologies combined with various nonlinear control techniques such as sliding-mode control, back-stepping, dynamic surface control, and optimal/$H_{\infty}$ control.

  • The pounding phenomenon in adjacent structures happens in severing earthquakes that can cause great damages. Connecting neighboring structures with active and semi-active control devices is an effective method to avoid mutual colliding between neighboring buildings. One of the most important issues in control systems is applying online control force. There will be a time delay if the prose of producing control force does not perform on time. This paper proposed a time-delay compensation method in coupled structures control, with semi-active Magnetorheological (MR) damper. This method based on Newmark's integration is adopted to mitigate the time-delay effect. In this study, Lyapunov's direct approach is employed to compute demanded voltage for MR dampers. Using Lyapunov's direct algorithm guarantees the system stability to design a controller based on feedback. Because of the strong nonlinearity of MR dampers, the equation of motion of coupled structures becomes an involved equation, and it is impossible to solve it with the common time step methods. In present paper modified Newmark-Beta integration based on the instantaneous optimal control algorithm, used to solve the involved equation. In this method, the response of a coupled system estimated base on optimal control force. Two MDOF structures with different degrees of freedom are finally considered as a numeric example. The numerical results show, the Newmark compensation is an efficient method to decrease the negative effect of time delay in coupled systems; furthermore, instantaneous optimal control algorithm can estimate the response of structures suitable.

  • The stability of system is one of the important aspects and to judge system's stability is another complicated problem. Previously, new technique derived from relaxing Lyapunov conditions has been already introduced and in this paper, this proposed technique applies to the practical dynamic systems. This utility of numerical procedures prove the comparable improvements of the estimation of robustness for dynamic systems having structured (bounded) perturbations.
