  • This paper predicts the modified proportional damping structural eigenvectors and eigenvalues due to the change in the mass and stiffness of a proportional damping structure by iterative calculation of the sensitivity coefficient using the original dynamic characteristics. The method is applied to examples of a cantilever and 3 degree of freedom lumped mass model by modifing the mass and stiffness. The predicted dynamic characteristics are in good agreement with these from the structural reanalysis using the modified mass and stiffness.

  • The mathematical model of the gear reductioner which consists which consists of the geared rotor-bearing system containing case is developed, assuming as the lumped parameter system. Constraints for vibration suppresion as well as strength of gear teeth, and shaft and kinematic conditions in gear pairs are considered. To find the design parameters satisfing the proposed constraints, a direct search method modified by the technique of Taguchi's experimental scheduling is used. One and two stepped gear reductioners are designed so that the criticl speeds due to the gear transmission error are moved out of the operating speed range.

  • This paper presents the simulation results for the analysis of a lightning surge, switching transients and very fast transients within a thermal plant. The modeling of gas insulated substations (GIS) makes use of electrical equivalent circuits that are composed of lumped elements and distributed parameter lines. The system model also includes some generators, transformers, and low voltage circuits such as 24V DC rectifiers and control circuits. This paper shows the simulation results, via EMTP (Electro-Magnetic Transients Program), for three overvoltage types, such as transient overvoltages, switching transients, very fast transients and a lightning surge.

  • This paper describes the calculation of the equivalent circuit parameters and the characteristic analysis of a capacitor-run type single-phase induction motor by means of the finite element method in coupled with the conventional equivalent circuit model. The circuit parameters of the stator are calculated form the lumped parameter and the slot leakage reactance of the rotor with the closed slot can be obtained by the use of slot pitch boundary condition. From the analysis result this combined equivalent circuit and finite element method which is used slot pitch boundary condition is compared with the experimental results, the validity of the method is proved.

  • This paper presents an analytic method to calculate energy conversion between electromagnetically coupled high-temperature superconducting and copper coils. The energy transfer from one coil to the other is commonly observed during quench of a no-insulation (NI) high temperature superconductor (HTS) magnet. Proper understanding of this phenomenon is particularly important to protect an NI HTS magnet, especially to avoid any potential mechanical damages. In this paper, analytic equations are obtained to estimate the energy transfer between the NI and copper coils. The well-known lumped-parameter circuit model is adopted provided that key parameters of the coils are given.

  • Seismic responses of the Hualien large scale seismic test model on a layered soil site are estimated for three recorded earthquakes with different level of peak acceleration using two different approaches of soil-structure interaction analysis. The analysis results are then compared and evaluated with the recorded. The method adopted for the analysis is based on substructuring method using a lumped parameter model in both the frequency and time domain. The study results indicate that the proposed method can reasonably estimate the earthquake responses of a soil-structure interaction system of r engineering purposes if the techniques of defining input motion and modeling of the backfilled soil are prudently selected.

  • A numerical simulation method is developed to analyze the dynamic response of a cantilever switch, which is driven by electrostatic force and a basic component of electro-mechanical coupled system. First, point-charges model on conductor is proposed as a lumped parameter of electrical part. Then, this model is easily incorporated into a multi-body dynamics analysis algorithm, the generalized recursive dynamics formula previously developed by our research group. The resulting motion of a coupled overall system is formulated as a differential algebraic equation form including electrical and mechanical variables together. The equation is simultaneously solved in every time step. To implement this approach into the useful dynamics analysis tool, we used multibody dynamics software (RecurDyn) based on the generalized recursive formula using relative coordinate. The developed numerical simulation tool is evaluated by applying to many different driving condition and switch configuration. The final analysis model will be added to RecurDyn as a basic module for dynamics analysis of electro-mechanical coupled system.

  • Torsional oscillations of the mechanical drivetrain in electric vehicles are generated under rapid driving conditions. These lead to an uncomfortable jerking of the vehicle and to an increased stress of the mechanical components. To analyze this phenomenon, a drivetrain model is constructed with lumped parameters. The model parameters are identified by geometrical design data and experimental tests. The proposed model is validated by simulation and experimental tests in the time and the frequency domains. As a result, the torsional oscillations are observed at 7Hz of a low damped natural frequency. Also, the analysis of the effect of the parameter variations on the oscillations shows that the oscillation characteristic is mainly dependent on the rotor inertia, and the stiffness of the mounting of the drive aggregate and the driveshaft. The results will be utilized on the basis of the design of an electric drivetrain and an active control of drivetrain oscillations.

  • In this paper, a tracking control problem for a mechanical servo system with nonlinear dynamic friction is treated. The nonlinear friction model contains directly immeasurable friction state and the uncertainty caused by incomplete modeling and variations of its parameter. In order to provide the efficient solution to these control problems, we propose a hybrid control scheme, which consists of a robust friction state observer, a RFNN estimator and an approximation error estimator with sliding mode control. A sliding mode controller and a robust friction state observer is firstly designed to estimate the unknown infernal state of the LuGre friction model. Next, a RFNN estimator is introduced to approximate the unknown lumped friction uncertainty. Finally, an adaptive approximation error estimator is designed to compensate the approximation error of the RFNN estimator. Some simulations and experiments on the mechanical servo system composed of ball-screw and DC servo motor are presented. Results demonstrate the remarkable performance of the proposed control scheme.
