  • Vacuum deposited copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) was placed as a thin interlayer between indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode and a hole transporting layer (HTL) in a multi-layered, organic, light-emitting diode (OLEOs). The well-stacked CuPc layer increased the stability and efficiency of the devices. Thermal annealing after CuPc deposition and magnetic field treatment during CuPc deposition were performed to obtain a stacked-CuPc layer; the former increased the stacking density of the CuPc molecules and the alignment of the CuPc film. Thermal annealing at about 100$^{circ}C$ increased the current flow through the CuPc layer by over 25$\%$. Surface roughness decreased from 4.12 to 3.65 nm and spikes were lowered at the film surface as well. However, magnetic field treatment during deposition was less effective than thermal treatment. Eventually, a higher luminescence at a given voltage was obtained when a thermally-annealed CuPc layer was placed in the present, multi-layered, ITO/CuPc/NPD/Alq3/LiF/AI devices. Thermal annealing at about 100$^{circ}C$ for 3 h produced the most efficient, multi-layered EL devices in the present study.

  • Highly luminescent and monodisperse InP quantum dots (QDs) were prepared by a non-organometallic approach in a non-coordinating solvent. Fatty acids with well-defined chain lengths as the ligand, a non coordinating solvent, and a thorough degassing process are all important factors for the formation of high quality InP QDs. By varying the molar concentration of indium to ligand, QDs of different size were prepared and their absorption and emission behaviors studied. By spin-coating a colloidal solution of InP QD onto a silicon wafer, InP QD thin films were obtained. The thickness of the thin films cured at 60 and $200^{\circ}C$ were nearly identical (approximately 860 nm), whereas at $300^{\circ}C$, the thickness of the thin film was found to be 760 nm. Different contrast regions (A, B, C) were observed in the TEM images, which were found to be unreacted precursors, InP QDs, and indium-rich phases, respectively, through EDX analysis. The optical properties of the thin films were measured at three different curing temperatures (60, 200, $300^{\circ}C$), which showed a blue shift with an increase in temperature. It was proposed that this blue shift may be due to a decrease in the core diameter of the InP QD by oxidation, as confirmed by the XPS studies. Oxidation also passivates the QD surface by reducing the amount of P dangling bonds, thereby increasing luminescence intensity. The dielectric properties of the thin films were also investigated by capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements in a metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) device. At 60 and $300^{\circ}C$, negative flat band shifts (${\Delta}V_{fb}$) were observed, which were explained by the presence of P dangling bonds on the InP QD surface. At $300^{\circ}C$, clockwise hysteresis was observed due to trapping and detrapping of positive charges on the thin film, which was explained by proposing the existence of deep energy levels due to the indium-rich phases.

  • Over the last decade, zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films have attracted considerable attention owing to large band gap of 3.37 eV and large exciton binding energy of 60 meV at room temperature [1-3]. Recent interest in ZnO related researches has been switched into the fabrication and characterization of low-dimensional nanostructures, such as nano-wires and nano-dots that can be applicable to manufacture the optoelectronic devices such as ultraviolet lasers, light-emitting-diodes and detectors. Since the optical properties of ZnO nano-structures might be distinct from those of bulk materials or thin films, the low-dimensional phenomena should be examined further. In order to utilize such advanced optoelectronic devices, one of the challenges is how to control the surface state related emissions that are drastically increased with increasing the density of the nano-structures and the surface-to-volume ratio. This paper reports the synthesis and characterization of self-assembled ZnO hexagonal nano-disks grown by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering. X-ray diffraction data and scanning electron microscopy data showed that ZnO hexagonal nano-disks were nucleated on top of the flat surfaces as the film thickness reached to 1.56 ${\mu}m$ and then the number of nano-disks increased with increasing the film thickness. The lateral size of hexagonal nano-disks was ~720 nm and height was ~74 nm. The strong photo luminescence spectra obtained at 10 K was also observed, which was assigned to a surface exciton emission at 3.3628 eV arising from the surface sites of hexagonal nano-disks.

  • We fabricated PLT thin films on ITO substrate for flat pannel display and investigated the characteristics, then we applicated to electroluminescent device and investigated application possibility. When we fabricated PLT thin films with substrate temperature of $500^{\circ}C$, and pressure of 30 mTorr, the relative deielectric constant and breakdown electricfield of PLT thin films were 120 and 3.2MV/cm. The electric resistivity was $2.0{\times}10^{12}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. PLT thin films had polycrystal structure of perovskite and pyrochlore at the higher substrate temperature than $450^{\circ}C$, and had good crystallinity at higher pressure. To use PLT insulator film and ZnS:Mn phosphor, we fabricated thin film electroluminescent device of ITO/PLT/ZnS:Mn/PLT/Al structure. At the result, threshold voltage was $35.2V_{rms}$ and brightness was $2400cd/m^{2}$ at $50V_{rms}$ and 1kHz. Maximum luminescence efficiency was 0.811m/W.

  • The photoluminescence (PT) properties of Al-doped ZnO thin films grown by the sol-gel dip-coating method have been investigated. At 12 K, nine distinct PL peaks were observed at 2.037, 2.592, 2.832, 3.027, 3.177, 3.216, 3.260, 3.303, and 3.354 eV. The deep-level emissions (2.037, 2.592, 2.832, and 3.027 eV) were attributed to native defects. The near-band-edge (NBE) emission peaks at 3.354, 3.303, 3.260, 3.216, and 3.177 eV were attributed to the emission of the neutral-donor-bound excitons ($D^0X$), two-electron satellite (TES), free-to-neutral-acceptors (e,$A^0$), donor-acceptor pairs (DAP), and second-order longitudinal optical (2LO) phonon replicas of the TES (TES-2LO), respectively. According to Haynes' empirical rule, we calculated the energy of a free exciton (FX) to be 3.374 eV. The thermal activation energy for $D^0X$ in the nanocrystalline ZnO thin film was found to be ~25 meV, corresponding to the thermal dissociation energy required for $D^0X$ transitions.

  • In this paper we fabricated a test panel for AMOLED on glass and PET substrate. The test panel consisted of the various size of OTFTs and OLEDs and the current driving capability of OTFTs for OLEDs has been investigated. OTFTs were made of the inverted staggered structure and employed polyvinylphenol (PVP) as the gate insulator and pentacene thin film as the active layer. The OTFTs produced the filed effect mobility of $0.3 cm^2/V.sec$ and on/off current ratio of $10^5$. OLEDs consisted of TPD for HTL and Alq3 for EML with 35nm thick, generating green monochrome light. We found that OTFT with channel length of 70${\mu}m$ and channel width of over 3.5mm provided the sufficient current to OLED to generate the luminescence of $0.3Cd/m^2$.

  • Ionizer is used for improving manufacturing process and reducing inferior goods in the clean room. As a general rule, neutralization of the electrostatic charge is most important to make TFT-LCD, PDP and OLED. Pulse AC-static eliminator with output voltage of about 10.5kV has been used these days as neutralization device. But this device has a problem with lower performance which was caused by particles-adhesion on the electrode when it has been used for a long time. So we studied to solve the problem with lower performance using high Frequency(72kHz) static eliminator which was produced by Piezo transformer device, and compared Pulse-AC type with Piezo-electronic device such as decay time and ion balance for 10 weeks periods. As a result of this study, we found that Piezo transformer device has been maintained normal condition for 10 weeks. Also, we made the rule by this study, normally Piezo transformer device has to clean the electrode during every 11th weeks.

  • In this paper, we studied the matrix type Powder AC Electroluminescence using ZnS:Cu,Cl Phosphor. Previously, Powder AC EL was used in Backlighting of LCD. Rescently, organic Thin Film EL was rapidly developed because of high Luminescence and low applied voltage. But Powder AC EL has Superior features that include sheet like flexibility thickness, low weight, self-emission, a wide viewing angle and a fast response time. We tried to change of phosphor thickness and binder mixture rate in order to obtain the good condition of powder AC EL and we obtained the very low breakdown voltage that was just 15V. Till now, we measured the current-voltage(V-I), luminance-voltage(V-L), Luminance-current (L-I), color coordinate (CIE), and phosphor Intensity of variable thickness. In experiment result, the devices has the luminance of 840 cd/$m^2$ and improved color coordinate, x=0.1557, y=0.2145, using a 10kHz drive frequency.

  • AZO(Aluminum-doped Zinc Oxide) films are attractive materials as transparent conductive electrode because they are inexpensive, nontoxic and abundant element compared with ITO(Indium Tin Oxide). AZO films have been deposited on glass (corning 1737) substrates by RF magnetron sputtering. The AZO film was post-annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr with $N_2$ atmosphere. The AZO films were used as an anode contact to fabricate OLEDs(Organic Light Emitting Diodes). OLEDs with $AZO/TPD/Alq_3/Al$ configuration were fabricated by thermal evaporation. We investigated that the electric, structural and optical properties of AZO thin films, which measured using the methods of XRD, SEM, Hall measurement and Spectrophotometer. The current density-voltage and luminescence-voltage properties of devices were studied and compared with ITO devices fabricated under the same conditions.
