  • The effective use of rolling oils in the metalworking industry is generally regarded as an art rather than a science. With variations in the quality of some of the raw materials used e.g. vegetable oils, it was often difficult to predict the performance of a product from one batch to another. However, with the increasing use of synthetically produced components and better understanding of the rolling process itself, more consistent and predictable results can now be obtained.

  • The traditional approach is to characterize the behavior and performance of fluid film hydrodynamic journal bearings by means of linearized bearing analysis. The objective of this paper is to examine the nonlinear characteristics of the journal bearing when an external sinusoidal shock is given to the system. The oil film force is obtained by solving the finite width Reynolds equation at each time step by the solution of the column method. Frequency response functions obtained from both linear and nonlinear bearing simulations are compared with each other.

  • This paper describes the characteristics of wheel wear of high speed train running on the conventional line. Conventional line has many curved tracks that cause severe wheel flange wear. The influences of lubrication, cant deficiency, curve radius on wheel wear are also described considering the operation performance of the highspeed trainset. A method of calculation using contact patch work model is presented for determination of the evolution by wear of railway wheels.

  • 본 논문에서는 정수압 구면 베어링의 정확한 해석을 위해 구면 베어링 틈새의 유체 유동의 지배 방정식인 구면 좌표계 레이놀즈 방정식을 수치 해석으로 해석하였다. 이를 통해 구한 유체의 압력 분포를 이용하여 베어링의 하중 지지 용량, 유량 및 강성을 구하고 이를 도시하여 설계 타당성을 검증하였다.

  • As a means to reduce stiction in the landing zone padded sliders can be used. In this work the performance of padded slider was investigated using a commercial spin stand. The friction and acoustic emission signals were measured during the experiment. It is shown that padded slider show superior friction and AE characteristics. However, the wear properties of the pads should be further Improved.

  • ILSAC GF 3/API SL specification will be adopted in July 2001. The background and characteristics of GF3 specification is reviewed. GF3 specification consists of five new engine tests, two new bench tests and new limits on three bench tests currently used to define ILSAC GF-2. GF 3 engine oil shows good performance compared to GF2 engine oil in fuel efficiency, protecting ability the emission catalyst and high temperature oxidation stability.

  • The heat generated in contact type braking system can cause an unacceptable braking performance. Thermal behavior of ventilated disk brake system is presented in this paper. The temperature and velocity fields of 3-D unsteady simulated model are obtained using a software package "FLUENT". The numerical results show that there exits a temperature nonuniformity between the disk faces contacting with pads. The conduction rate through the disk and pad is calculated and the effect of material conductivity is also investigated.estigated.

  • In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of coupled herringbone groove journal bearings and spiral groove thrust bearings with conical motion were numerically analyzed, The bearing performance characteristics were calculated by the perturbation method and are solved by FDM. Stability of bearing was obtained from the threshold of instability.

  • Recently, fluid bearing have been studied to apply to spindle motors for hard disk drive, printer and others. Since fluid bearing have excellent stiffness and good load carrying capacity, the bearing proved to be suitable for those devices related to computer industry. In this paper, the friction and wear characteristics of the bearing were studied. The bearing appears good performance at a high temperature and high wear resistance.
