Building become higher. larger and more complex than ever before, showing abrupt changes in building structures. forms and mechanical systems. Likewise hazads of fire and the scale of fire losses become more and more greater. Therefore. considerations for fire safety take up great portion of the building design process. In this study, problems of high-rise building fires and basic directions for fire safety of high-rise building design were studied through the statistical analysis of 138 fire cases. The results of this study are summarized as follows : ·Most of the fires in high-rise building occur on the low floors and the fire frequencies are very low on the upper floors. Fire casualties are liable to be more on the upper floors than on tile floor of fire origin. ·The important causes of evacuation failures were analyzed as being late in escape and lack of stairwell enclosures. ·The main cause of vertical fire spread is lack of stairwell enclosures. However, the fire spreads mainly through the enterior windows in apartment houses. The combustible materials in buildings act on as the major factors of horizontal fire spread and the improper fire doors play role of another the critical causes. ·The basic directions for fire safety of high-rise building design put much stress firstly on the compartmentation of the buildings effectively performing the provision of safe escape routes and the safe refuse places in buildings.
This paper presents the initial findings of a ground-breaking two-year CTBUH-funded research project investigating the real environmental and social sustainability of people's lifestyles in a number of high-rise residential towers in downtown Chicago, and a comparable number of low rise homes in suburban Oak Park, Chicago - based on actual energy bills and other real data. The study is ground-breaking because, to date, similar studies have been mostly based on very large data sets of generalized data regarding whole-city energy consumption, or large-scale transport patterns, which often misses important nuances. This study has thus prioritized quality of real data (based on around 250 households in both high rise and low rise case studies), over quantity. In both urban and suburban cases, the following factors have been assessed: (i) home operational energy use, (ii) embodied energy of the dwelling, (iii) home water consumption, (iv) mobility and transport movements, (v) urban/suburban Infrastructure, and (vi) quality of life. The full results of this seminal study will be published in the form of a CTBUH Research Report publication in 2017. Presented below is an overview of the initial (and, currently, unverified) findings of the research, together with the limitations of the study that should be taken into account, as well as future plans for developing this important pilot study.
Since the response reduction effect on over 200-meter-tall resulting from the seismic isolation system is smaller in general than low-rise and mid-rise buildings, mid-story isolated buildings are considered to reduce the response in the upper part above the isolation story, however, in many cases, the acceleration response just below the isolation story is likely to be the largest. This paper presents the structural design schemes, the design of the main structural frames, and the constructions of a 230-meter-tall super high-rise building with mid-story isolation mechanism integrated in Roppongi, Tokyo. Moreover, this paper shows how the architectural and structural design for integrating a mid-story isolation system in a super high-rise building has been conducted and what solutions have been derived in this project. The realization of this building indicates new possibilities for mid-story isolation design for super high-rise buildings.

Seismic isolation technique has been applied mainly in low rise buildings and its seismic performance was satisfactory during Kobe Earthquake. However, in the case of medium and/or high-rise buildings, mid-story isolation could be more technically feasible than base isolation to reduce earthquake forces. In this paper, the seismic effectiveness of mid-story isolation in medium and/or high-rise shear building as well as low rise shear building was evaluated analytically. After verifying the effectiveness of mid-story isolation technique, this method also applied in residential-commercial building. It was found that mid-story isolation, that is isolation between upper residential area and lower commercial area, could reduce inter-story drift and floor shear forces comparing to the conventional fixed base.
The effects on the performance of natural smoke exhaust ventilators installed in high-rise buildings were analyzed depending on the wind velocities and smoke temperatures using CONTAMW tool. The results showed that the smoke exhaust ventilators can maintain given performances in such conditions as low smoke temperatures and low wind velocities. However, high smoke temperatures and high wind velocities can prevent the smoke ventilators to exhaust smokes from the fire room. Significant changes in stack effects in high-rise buildings can also occur with the opening of smoke ventilators in the fire floor.
This research starts from the questioning of current housing development on the hilly site in Korea. It aims to investigate various design techniques of low-rise housing as an alternative housing plan on hilly sites. Several generic solutions of the combination of building type and road pattern are tested for a simulation process, and evaluated in terms of crucial design issues; development density, parking space and open space. As a result, four reasonable models are selected for making full use of geographical features of hilly site, two models each land slope of $18^{\circ}$ and $26^{\circ}$. Several design techniques for each model are also suggested, in ensuring the development feasibility by considering land slope, vehicular access and parking, common open space, and community facilities.
In Korea, most of the historic city became a deteriorated area with low-rise settlement. It is revaluated as a s great potential in spite of slum clearance and redevelopment for a long while after 1970s. A great achievement for low rise multi family housing, in spite of these social change, is not easy to find the cases and social commonness. In the view points, this article deals a ideal model in historic areas, and the model should be get the understanding from the people, because acceptance from people is the beginning for making historic housing areas. The facade model for evaluation prepared as three types, and responses for the models processed by AHP(Analysis Hierarchy Process).
This paper presents an extensive analysis of the short term, unsteady wind loading on a low-rise building. The building is located in a rural environment and only the specific situation of wind flow orthogonal to the long face of the structure is considered. The data is analysed using conventional analysis and less traditional methods such as conditional sampling and wavelet analysis. The nature of the flow field over the building is found to be highly unsteady and complex. Fluctuating pressures on the windward wall are shown to a large extent to be caused by the fluctuations in the upstream flow, whereas extreme pressures on the roof are as a result of high intensity small scale flow structures. On the roof of the building a significant amount of energy is shown to exist at frequencies above 1 Hz.
The Monte Carlo procedure was used to simulate wind load effects on a light-frame low-rise structure of irregular shape and a main wind force resisting system. Two analytical models were studied: rigid-beam and rigid-plate models. The models assumed that roof diaphragms were rigid beam or rigid plate and shear walls controlled system behavior and failure. The parameters defining wall stiffness, including imperfections, were random and included wall stiffness, wall capacity and yield displacements. The effect of openings was included in the simulation via a set of discrete multipliers with uniform distribution. One and two-story buildings were analyzed and the models can be expanded into multiple-floor structures provided that the assumptions made in this paper are not violated.
After 1970 Years. Korea has developed a concept of public domestic housing. But this house is reached the uppermost limit time of using the occupant's satisfying life. Then reconstruction of Apartment house is urgently needed which is developed in Korea. So this study is examined the demolition work on current reconstructing apartment site. for reconstruction. Therefore this research examined the fitted demolition time of low-rise house and characteristics of demolition works. The conclusions from this experiment are shown below. 1. The average day work in clutcher method is shown about 1, 032㎥/Day. 2. The calculations of the term of construction which is produced by the analysis of demolition construction period on low-rise house is below. D(day) = S(day) + (0.272+0.000902b(㎥))+R(day)
