Roy Huddle, having invented the coated particle in Harwell 1957, stated in the early 1970s that we know now everything about particles and coatings and should be going over to deal with other problems. This was on the occasion of the Dragon fuel performance information meeting London 1973: How wrong a genius be! It took until 1978 that really good particles were made in Germany, then during the Japanese HTTR production in the 1990s and finally the Chinese 2000-2001 campaign for HTR-10. Here, we present a review of history and present status. Today, good fuel is measured by different standards from the seventies: where $9*10^{-4}$ initial free heavy metal fraction was typical for early AVR carbide fuel and $3*10^{-4}$ initial free heavy metal fraction was acceptable for oxide fuel in THTR, we insist on values more than an order of magnitude below this value today. Half a percent of particle failure at the end-of-irradiation, another ancient standard, is not even acceptable today, even for the most severe accidents. While legislation and licensing has not changed, one of the reasons we insist on these improvements is the preference for passive systems rather than active controls of earlier times. After renewed HTGR interest, we are reporting about the start of new or reactivated coated particle work in several parts of the world, considering the aspects of designs/ traditional and new materials, manufacturing technologies/ quality control quality assurance, irradiation and accident performance, modeling and performance predictions, and fuel cycle aspects and spent fuel treatment. In very general terms, the coated particle should be strong, reliable, retentive, and affordable. These properties have to be quantified and will be eventually optimized for a specific application system. Results obtained so far indicate that the same particle can be used for steam cycle applications with $700-750^{\circ}C$ helium coolant gas exit, for gas turbine applications at $850-900^{\circ}C$ and for process heat/hydrogen generation applications with $950^{\circ}C$ outlet temperatures. There is a clear set of standards for modem high quality fuel in terms of low levels of heavy metal contamination, manufacture-induced particle defects during fuel body and fuel element making, irradiation/accident induced particle failures and limits on fission product release from intact particles. While gas-cooled reactor design is still open-ended with blocks for the prismatic and spherical fuel elements for the pebble-bed design, there is near worldwide agreement on high quality fuel: a $500{\mu}m$ diameter $UO_2$ kernel of 10% enrichment is surrounded by a $100{\mu}m$ thick sacrificial buffer layer to be followed by a dense inner pyrocarbon layer, a high quality silicon carbide layer of $35{\mu}m$ thickness and theoretical density and another outer pyrocarbon layer. Good performance has been demonstrated both under operational and under accident conditions, i.e. to 10% FIMA and maximum $1600^{\circ}C$ afterwards. And it is the wide-ranging demonstration experience that makes this particle superior. Recommendations are made for further work: 1. Generation of data for presently manufactured materials, e.g. SiC strength and strength distribution, PyC creep and shrinkage and many more material data sets. 2. Renewed start of irradiation and accident testing of modem coated particle fuel. 3. Analysis of existing and newly created data with a view to demonstrate satisfactory performance at burnups beyond 10% FIMA and complete fission product retention even in accidents that go beyond $1600^{\circ}C$ for a short period of time. This work should proceed at both national and international level.
This study suggests a new method not only to produce the 1 km-resolution seasonal prediction but also to improve the seasonal prediction skill of temperature over South Korea. This method consists of four stages of experiments. The first stage, EXP1, is a low-resolution seasonal prediction of temperature obtained from Pusan National University Coupled General Circulation Model, and EXP2 is to produce 1 km-resolution seasonal prediction of temperature over South Korea by applying statistical downscaling to the results of EXP1. EXP3 is a seasonal prediction which considers the effect of temperature changes according to the altitude on the result of EXP2. Here, we use altitude information from ASTER GDEM, satellite observation. EXP4 is a bias corrected seasonal prediction using genetic algorithm in EXP3. EXP1 and EXP2 show poorer prediction skill than other experiments because the topographical characteristic of South Korea is not considered at all. Especially, the prediction skills of two experiments are lower at the high altitude observation site. On the other hand, EXP3 and EXP4 applying the high resolution elevation data based on remote sensing have higher prediction skill than other experiments by effectively reflecting the topographical characteristics such as temperature decrease as altitude increases. In addition, EXP4 reduced the systematic bias of seasonal prediction using genetic algorithm shows the superior performance for temporal variability such as temporal correlation, normalized standard deviation, hit rate and false alarm rate. It means that the method proposed in this study can produces high-resolution and high-quality seasonal prediction effectively.

With the changing trend of the building construction to high rising and large scaling, the underground structure has been increased, and its usage also increased and variety. Hence, to protect the underground structure against underground water, various water proofing methods has been developed. Among the many water proofing methods, the combined water proofing method using both asphalt seal and sheet has been widely used to secure the sufficient performance and decrease the construction failure. However, during the summer period of extremely high temperature conditions, the asphalt sealing materials were separated and leaked into the structure. Therefore, the aim of the research is to provide the quality standard of asphalt sealing material based on the various temperature changes depending on seasons. According to the experimental results, the temperature of the sealing materials applied on the slab was increased up to $54^{\circ}C$ which was $3^{\circ}C$ higher than the structure temperature of $51^{\circ}C$. Based on the melting test for asphalt sealing materials applied on the outside wall of the structure, in the case of water-dispersing typed materials showed significant melting down due to its slow evaporation and low viscosity. Furthermore, from the accelerated test conducted indoor conditions, a solvent-type and water-dispersing typed materials showed significant melting down due to their low viscosity and melting point in ambient conditions. Based on these results, viscosity and melting point are found as the important factors on asphalt sealing materials' quality, and it is necessary to designate the quantitative level of the viscosity and melting point for quality control.
The purpose of this study was to identify the importance and performance ranking and differences in inflight meal service quality. Data were collected from A airlines passengers. In order to secure the validity and reliability of the measurement tools, exploratory factor analysis were conducted, accordingly meal, service, cleanliness were deduced. IPA results are as follows. First, the quadrant I consisted of meal flavor, meal quality, meal menu, balanced diet, korean food availability, cleanliness of dishes, cleanliness of crew clothes. In the II quadrant, appropriate temperature, appropriateness of meal distribute time, cleanliness of the meal were found. So, the airline managers should have the most interest in these attributes and had to improve first. The quadrant III showed meal quantity, liquor diversity, polite attitude, immediate response to the meal, knowledge of the meal, meal freshness. Lastly, the quadrant IV showed a variety of beverage and special meal order. It is considered that resource allocation is necessary for minimizing the amount of resources invested to the quadrant IV, and then it should be allocated the quadrant II, which is high in importance but low in performance.

Painting or thermally sprayed metal coating is often used in corrosion protection of steel structures. In recently, duplex coating system which combines thermally sprayed metals with paint is selected as a new generic type of coatings on steel structures under the highly corrosive environments. In this study, the structural steel specimens were surface treated, thermally sprayed with zinc, zinc-15%aluminum alloy, aluminum and aluminum-5%magnesium alloy, and finally sealing or painted with acrylic urethane. And as a reference specimens, steel specimens were painted with acrylic urethane after surface treatment. Circular defects with 1.0, 3.0 and 5.0 mm in diameters and line defect with 2.0 mm width, which reach the steel substrate were created on all specimens. The specimens were exposed into an environmental testing chamber controlled by the ISO 20340, which is a laboratory cyclic accelerated exposure test condition of spraying/UV/low temperature, for up to 175 days. Based on the corrosion tests, corrosion deterioration from the initial defects were evaluated and weathering performance of the specimens are compared.

This paper describes the localization development of an axial fan for KM-SAM multi-function radar. The multi-function radar, which is constantly affected by the external environment, is a key instrument for detecting and tracking low and medium altitude threat targets. Operating this equipment smoothly requires a fan for controlling the internal temperature and humidity. Presently, all such fans are imported. To solve these problems, localization development research was proposed. The development of localization includes analysis of requirements through review of related technical reports such as original equipment and system equipment specification, prototype design, and verification of design requirement through performance test and environmental test. The study results are described. The blower consisted of an axial fan with guide vanes and the motor was designed to generate a maximum airflow of 970 CFM and a wind pressure of 4.8 IWG. Six prototypes were manufactured for performance evaluation. In addition, for reliable data acquisition, AC power supply, fan performance tester and data acquisition equipment were designed and tested. All prototypes were verified as having design requirements equal to or better than those of imports.
A major purpose of this study is to develop a drainage system that can quickly drain water penetrated into pavement layers to mitigate pot holes which is one of the major distress types in bridge deck pavements. This system can be established by applying a thin drainage layer between waterproof and pavement layers. The most important elements for this system are the performance of waterproof layer and construction technique for the thin drainage layer. The porous asphalt mix with the maximum aggregate size of 10mm is first developed based on the porous asphalt mix design guide proposed by NCAT, and various physical and mechanical tests are performed to confirm that the porous mix satisfies all the specification requirements. In addition, a series of laboratory tests including low-temperature bending and bonding strength tests for the MMA(Methyl Methacrylate) type of waterproofing material. It is observed from the tests that the MMA material satisfies all the specification requirements. To evaluate the Reld performance of the drainage system, a field study has been conducted on a relatively small size bridge. The QC/QA tests are conducted on the both waterproofing and pavement materials. It has been found that the drainage system works well to drain the water penetrated into the pavement layers.

ZnO has been extensively studied for optoelectronic applications such as blue and ultraviolet (UV) light emitters and detectors, because it has a wide band gap (3.37 eV) anda large exciton binding energy of ~60 meV over GaN (~26 meV). However, the fabrication of the light emitting devices using ZnO homojunctions is suffered from the lack of reproducibility of the p-type ZnO with high hall concentration and mobility. Thus, the ZnO-based p-n heterojunction light emitting diode (LED) using p-Si and p-GaN would be expected to exhibit stable device performance compared to the homojunction LED. The n-ZnO/p-GaN heterostructure is a good candidate for ZnO-based heterojunction LEDs because of their similar physical properties and the reproducibleavailability of p-type GaN. Especially, the reduced lattice mismatch (~1.8 %) and similar crystal structure result in the advantage of acquiring high performance LED devices with low defect density. However, the electroluminescence (EL) of the device using n-ZnO/p-GaN heterojunctions shows the blue and greenish emissions, which are attributed to the emission from the p-GaN and deep-level defects. In this work, the n-ZnO:Ga/p-GaN:Mg heterojunction light emitting diodes (LEDs) were fabricated at different growth temperatures and carrier concentrations in the n-type region. The effects of the growth temperature and carrier concentration on the electrical and emission properties were investigated. The I-V and the EL results showed that the device performance of the heterostructure LEDs, such as turn-on voltage and true ultraviolet emission, developed through the insertion of a thin intrinsic layer between n-ZnO:Ga and p-GaN:Mg. This observation was attributed to a lowering of the energy barriers for the supply of electrons and holes into intrinsic ZnO, and recombination in the intrinsic ZnO with the absence of deep level emission.
GDL(Gas Diffusion Layer) is one of the main components of PEM fuel cell. It transports reactants from the channel to the catalyst and removes reaction products from the catalyst to the channels in the flow filed plate. It is known that higher permeability of GDL can make it possible to enhance the gas transport through GDL, leading to better performance. And MEA's temperature is determined by gas and heat transport. In this paper, three dimensional numerical simulation of PEM fuel cell of parallel channel and serpentine channel by the permeability of GDL is presented to analysis heat and mass transfer characteristics using a FLUENT modified to include the electrochemical behavior. Results show that in the case of parallel channel, performance variation with change of permeability of GDL was not so much. This is thought because mass transfer is carried out by diffusion mechanism in parallel channel. Also, in the case of serpentine channel, higher GDL permeability resulted in better performance of PEM fuel cell because of convection flow though GDL. And mass transfer process is changed from convection to diffusion when the permeability becomes low.
A total of 126 crossbred weanling pigs (average body weight of $6.3{\pm}0.3$ kg) were used to investigate the effect of chito-oligosaccharide (COS) on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, pH of gastro-intestinal tract (GI), intestinal and fecal microflora of young piglets. Pigs were allocated to three dietary treatments based on body weight and gender in a single factorial arrangement. Treatments were control (No COS), T1 (0.2% COS during starter (6-13 kg) and 0.1% COS during grower (13-30 kg) phases, and T2 (0.4% COS during starter (6-13 kg) and 0.3% COS during grower (13-30 kg) phases, respectively. Each treatment had 3 replicates and 14 pigs were raised in each pen. COS is a low molecular weight water-soluble chitosan that can be obtained from chitin of the crab shell after deacetylation with concentrated sodium hydroxide at high temperature and then further decomposition by chitosanase enzyme in the presence of ascorbic acid. For the starter and grower periods, there were no significant differences (p>0.05) in average daily gain (ADG) and feed to gain ratio among treatments. However, during the overall period (6-30 kg), T2 showed better (p<0.05) feed to gain ratio than other treatments. A digestibility study was conducted at the end of grower phase which showed improvement (p<0.05) in DM and crude fat digestibility in T2 over the control. At 25 kg body weight, 6 pigs per treatment (2 per replicate) were sacrificed to determine the effect of diets on pH and microbial count at different sections of the GI tract. The pH of the cecal contents in pigs fed 0.1% COS was higher (p<0.05) than in the other treatments. Total anaerobic bacterial number increased from cecum to rectum in all treatments. The weekly total bacterial counts showed higher (p<0.05) in feces of pigs fed COS than that of untreated pigs at the $8^{th}$ week. The number of fecal E. coli in untreated pigs at $4^{th}$ wk was 7.35 log CFU/g compared to 6.71 and 6.54 log CFU/g in 0.1 and 0.3% COS-treated pigs, respectively. Similarly, at $8^{th}$ wk, fecal clostridium spp. were lower in pigs fed 0.3% COS (5.43 log CFU/g) than in untreated pigs (6.26 log CFU/g). In conclusion, these results indicated that chito-oligosaccharide could improve feed efficiency in young pigs and inhibited the growth of harmful bacteria.
