Analysis of Characteristics of Half-Cut Solar Cells According to the NDC Process for High-Power Modules (고출력 모듈을 위한 NDC 공정에 따른 Half-Cut 태양전지의 특성 분석)

  • One method to increase the output of solar modules is the application of the Half-cut technique, which requires a scribing process involving direct irradiation of infrared lasers on the solar cells. During this process, the laser melts the surface of the solar cells at high temperatures, enabling mechanical division, but this can lead to output loss due to thermal degradation caused by the laser. To minimize such losses, a low-temperature and low-loss division method has been devised. In this study, we compared the electrical characteristics and leakage currents affecting output degradation between the newly devised low-temperature and low-loss cell division method and the conventional laser division method. Additionally, we conducted a 3-point flexural test to evaluate the mechanical properties of both methods.

Characterization of Ultra Low-k SiOC(H) Film Deposited by Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD)

  • In this study, deposition of low-dielectric constant SiOC(H) films by conventional plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) were investigated through various characterization techniques. The results show that, with an increase in the plasma power density, the relative dielectric constant (k) of the deposited films decreases whereas the refractive index increases. This is mainly due to the incorporation of organic molecules with $CH_3$ group into the Si-O-Si cage structure. It is as confirmed by FT-IR measurements in which the absorption peak at 1,129 $cm^{-1}$ corresponding to Si-O-Si cage structure increases with power plasma density. Electrical characterization reveals that even after fast thermal annealing process, the leakage current density of the deposited films is in the order of $10^{-11}$ A/cm at 1.5 MV/cm. The reliability of the SiOC(H) film is also further characterized by using BTS test.

  • The closed cycle diesel system is operated in closed circuit system where there is non air breathing with working fluid consists of combination of oxygen, argon and recycled exhaust gas far obtaining underwater or underground power sources. Experimental apparatus using the MTU8V183SE92 high pressurized engine adapted for closed cycle running, capable of operating at the system pressure of maximum 5 bar is constructed with ACAP as data acquisition system in order to operate equally in the open cycle in surface or the closed cycle in submerged conditions. The general features and the characteristics of combustion of HP(high pressure) diesel engine, specially designed and manufactured only for CCDE, are investigated. The test results of performance of HP diesel engine in closed cycle system are presented with respect to power and boost pressure and compared with those of low pressure diesel engine.   • The inundation of substation and ground power equipment breaks out every summer season in low-lying downtown areas and low-lying shores by torrential rain, typhoons and tsunamis. It has, in turn, caused replacement, social and economic costs for blackouts. For activity management regarding flood damage we produced a flood protection system which using the Pad transformer as a basic frame and is developed using pneumatic pressure. We tested safety concerns including insulation resistance and current leakage first for water tank flooding and, second, by an empirical test through supplying 22.9[kV]. We estimate that costs associated with flooding and power failure can be diminished by these advances toward creating a more reliable system.

  • A method is described for the design and fabrication of the sensor interface circuits on the Clark electrodes for the dissolved oxygen(DO). The discussion includes a method for the +5 V single-supply driving for the sensor circuits, which has low power comsumption for the front-end electronics. DO probe under test is composed of the Clark electrode with silver anode, gold cathode and the electrolyte of half saturated KCI solution and the FEP teflon memtrance for the oxygen penetration. Typical polarograms for the DO probes by using this sensor circuit reveals high accuracy over 99% of the I to V conversion. Partial pressure of oxygen obtained from the polarograms are well suited to the results calculated. It is expected that the proposed sensor circuits can be utilized into the customized IC for the battery-driven small-size DO meters.

  • A network is an important portion of communications in these days. Because of many inconveniences of a wired-network, wireless solutions have been studied for many years. One of the results of those efforts is IEEE 802.11, wireless LAN. This paper briefly summarizes wireless LAN and specially focuses on the design of a network processor for the wireless LAN system. The processor has 16-bit instruction set suitably selected for network processing and low-power consumption. It is implemented and verified with a wireless LAN system model. The wireless LAN system is modeled in RTL excluding the RF module. The processor can be used in many wireless systems as a controller and utilized as a test module for the research of low-power schemes.

Test result of striated HTS compact cables for low AC loss

  • Large AC loss from the second generation (2G) high temperature superconducting (HTS) wires has been one of the major bottlenecks in power applications with HTS materials. Moreover, the large power applications also require the large current capacity from the HTS wires, which makes them produce larger AC losses. In order to reduce the AC loss from the HTS conductors with large current capacity, an HTS compact cable with some striations on the superconducting layers has been proposed. In this paper, we prepared some sample HTS compact conductors with striations, and measured their magnetization loss from the external magnetic field. We also made some slits on the superconducting layer of the HTS wire by laser cutting to reduce the aspect ratio of the superconducting layers. It would make the low eddy current loss and magnetic decoupling. Finally, the magnetization losses of the sample HTS compact conductors were measured and analyzed.

  • Recently, many small and medium size diesel vehicles have been equipped with turbocharger and EGR system to get high performance and reduce $NO_x$ emissions but its application to heavy-duty diesel engine is not common yet. In this work, the simulation model for EURO-3 engine was developed using WAVE and then its performance and emission level were verified by comparing with experimental results. The possibility of current EURO-3 engine equipped with LPL EGR system which would be satisfied the EURO-5 regulation are examined. ESC 13 mode was chosen as the primary engine test mode, and the injection timing and fuel quantity were changed to compensate the lost engine performance caused by EGR. The system developed in this study shows that the current EURO-3 engine could satisfy EURO-5 $NO_x$ regulation by applying LPL EGR.

  • According to the high accuracy of semiconductor equipments, PCB substrate with much thin thickness is required. However, it is very difficult to sustain the PCB substrate without deformation in case of horizontal installation, due to low bending stiffness. In this research, new PCB process equipment with vertical installation has been developed in order to solve the problem of PCB substrate damage during etching process. As the main parts of etching system on PCB substrate, PCB substrate and JIG are analyzed through finite element method and experimental test. Through the analysis results of stress state, we could find the optimal JIG design to make the damage as low as possible.

  • A parallel analog Viterbi decoder which decodes PR (1,2,2,1) signal of optical disc has been fabricated into chip. The proposed parallel analog Viterbi decoder implements the functions of the conventional digital Viterbi decoder utilizing the analog parallel processing circuits. In this paper, the analog parallel Viterbi decoding technology is applied for the PR signal. The benefit of analog processing is the low power consumption and the less silicon consumption. The test results of the fabricated chip are reported in this paper.
