  • An image interpolation is a technique to use for enhancement of image resolution, it have two problems which are image quality degradation of the interpolated result image and high computation complexity. In this paper, to solve the problem, we propose an image interpolation algorithm using loss information estimation and implement the proposed method on portable device. From reduction image of obtained low resolution image, the proposed method can computes error to use image interpolated and estimate loss information by interpolation of the computed error. The estimated loss information is added to interpolated high resolution image with weight factor. We verified that the proposed method has improved FSNR as 2dB than conventional algorithms by experiments. Also, we implemented the proposed method on portable device and checked up real-time action. The proposed algorithm may be helpful for various application for image enlargement and reconstruction.

  • The welded defects are usually called user's unsatisfaction for appearance and functional usage. For checking these defects effectively without time loss, setup of weldability estimation system is an important for detecting whole specimen quality. In this study, after catching a rawdata on welded specimen profiles and treating vision processing with these data, the qualitative defects are estimated from getting these information by laser vision camera at first. At the same time, the weldability estimation for whole specimen is produced. For user friendly, the weldability estimation results are shown each profiles, final reports and visual graphics method. So, user can easily determined weldability. By applying these system to welding fabrication, these technologies are contribution to on-line setup of weldability estimation system.

  • In this paper, a new extension of Lindley distribution has been introduced. Certain characterizations based on truncated moments, hazard and reverse hazard function, conditional expectation of the proposed distribution are presented. Besides, these characterizations, other statistical/mathematical properties of the proposed model are also discussed. The estimation of the parameters is performed through different classical methods of estimation. Bayes estimation is computed under gamma informative prior under the squared error loss function. The performances of all estimation methods are studied via Monte Carlo simulations in mean square error sense. The potential of the proposed model is analyzed through two data sets. A modified goodness-of-fit test using the Nikulin-Rao-Robson statistic test is investigated via two examples and is observed that the new extension might be used as an alternative lifetime model.

  • The rotational loss is one of the most important problems for the practical use of the high power Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS). This rotational loss is divided as the mechanical loss by windage and bearing and iron loss by hysteresis loop and eddy current in the part of the magnetic field. So, In this paper, a double-sided PMSM/G without the iron loss is designed by analytical method of the magnetic field and estimation of the back-EMF constant represented as the design parameter. This design model consists of the double-sided PM rotor with Halbach magnetized any and coreless 3-phase winding stator. The results show that the double-sided PMSM/G without iron loss can be applicable to the high power FESS.

  • Water losses in irrigation canals are mainly estimated as the sum of conveyance and delivery water loss. The losses occur via the evaporation, infiltration, gate operation and water distribution processing. Recently, the study regarding these water losses are not satisfactory enough, also delivery water loss has not been mainly considered on field design. The objective of this study is to investigate and analyze the volume of water loss in irrigation canals considering condition of actual farm land. A field measurement was performed at four research sites, which are managed by Korea Rural Community & Agriculture Corporation, to evaluate conveyance and delivery water loss for 2 years. The measurement was performed by canal type, size and designed flow using the inflow-outflow method at a major points such as start and end of each canal, derivation point of canal and inlet of paddy fields. Results of this study showed that water loss ratio in lateral canals was bigger than that of main canal unlike current design standard and the loss decrease as flow increase. The total of water loss ratio including conveyance and delivery water loss in several irrigation canals ranged between 33.25 and 45.0%.

  • This study proposes a methodology to estimate the financial damages by personal information breach of a company and to analyse risk systematically through a case study of a company which experiences private information breach. Using FAIR(Factor Analysis of Information Risk) model, estimate the loss amount and to analyse risk objectively of a company by personal information breach. This study estimates adequacy and importance of corresponding factors applying AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) on each factors for assessing loss amount. By adopting proposed methodology in this study, the person in charge of actual work can assess and prove the loss amount though the latest risk estimation methodology. In addition, the person in charge can select the proper parameters for the corresponding company and can obtain the objective quantitative estimation. Hence it can be reported to the management by accurately assessing loss amount caused by personal information breach.

  • Damages from typhoon events have contributed more than 60 percent of total economic and social loss and the size of loss have been increased up to 800 million dollars per year in Korea, It is therefore necessary to make an effort to mitigate the loss of natural disasters. To facilitate the evaluation of damages in advance and to support the decision making to recover the damages, scientific methods have been adopted. With the effort, GIS data can provide various tools. Three components of hazard mapping are estimation of hazard, inventory for vulnerable features, and fragility of each feature. Vulnerability of natural disaster can be obtained by relation between loss and meteorological data such as precipitation and wind speed. Features can be categorized from other GIS data of public facilities and private properties, and then social and economic loss can be estimated. At this point, GIS data conversions for each model are required. In this study, we build a method to estimate typhoon risk based on GIS data such as DEM, land cover and land use map, facilities.

  • Most of fluid systems, such as P&ID in ships, power plants, and chemical plants, consist of various components. The components such as bends, tees, sudden-expansions, sudden-contractions, and orifices contribute to overall pressure loss of the system. The local pressure losses across such components are determined using a pressure loss coefficient, k-factor, in lumped parameter models. In many engineering problems Idelchik's k-factor models have been used to estimate them. The present work compares the k-factor based on CFD calculation against Idelchik's model in order to confirm whether a commercial CFD package can be used for pressure loss coefficient estimation of complex geometries. The results show that RSM is the best appropriate for evaluating pressure loss coefficient. Commercial CFD package can be used as a tool evaluating k-factor even though the accuracy is influenced by a turbulence model.

  • Visualization of the tissue loss tangent property can provide distinct contrast and offer new information related to tissue electrical properties. A method for non-invasive imaging of the electrical loss tangent of tissue using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was demonstrated, and the effect of loss tangent was observed through simulations assuming a hyperthermia procedure. For measurement of tissue loss tangent, radiofrequency field maps ($B_1{^+}$ complex map) were acquired using a double-angle actual flip angle imaging MRI sequence. The conductivity and permittivity were estimated from the complex valued $B_1{^+}$ map using Helmholtz equations. Phantom and ex-vivo experiments were then performed. Electromagnetic simulations of hyperthermia were carried out for observation of temperature elevation with respect to loss tangent. Non-invasive imaging of tissue loss tangent via complex valued $B_1{^+}$ mapping using MRI was successfully conducted. Simulation results indicated that loss tangent is a dominant factor in temperature elevation in the high frequency range during hyperthermia. Knowledge of the tissue loss tangent value can be a useful marker for thermotherapy applications.

  • This study estimated experimentally the loss distribution caused by magnetic friction in magnetic parts of a superconductor flywheel energy storage system (SFES) to obtain information for the design of high efficiency SFES. Through the spin down experiment using the manufactured vertical shaft type SFES with a journal type superconductor magnetic bearing (SMB), the coefficients of friction by the SMB, the stator core of permanent magnet synchronous motor/generator (PMSM/G), and the leakage flux of the metal parts were calculated. The coefficients of friction by the stator core of PMSM/G in case of using Si-steel and an amorphous core were calculated. The energy loss by magnetic friction in the stator core of PMSM/G was much larger than that in the other parts. The level of friction loss could be reduced dramatically using an amorphous core. Energy loss by the leakage magnetic field was small. On the other hand, the energy loss could be increased under other conditions according to the type of metal nearby the leakage magnetic fields. In manufactured SFES, the rotational loss by the amorphous core was approximately 2 times the loss of the superconductor and leakage. Moreover, the rotational loss by the Si-steel core is approximately 3~3.5 times the loss of superconductor and leakage.
