In this paper, a nonlinear numerical method to solve the large deflection problem is introduced. And the non-dimensional load-deflection behavior of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) plates is parametrically investigated. The large deflection problem is formulated according to the von Kármán nonlinear theory and the (1,1,0)* hierarchical model, and it is approximated by 2-D natural element method (NEM). The shear locking phenomenon is suppressed by the selectively reduced integration method. The nonlinear matrix equations are solved by combining the incremental loading scheme and the Newton-Raphson iteration method. The proposed method is validated from the benchmark experiments, where the propose method shows an excellent agreement with the reference methods. The nonlinear behavior of FG-CNTRC plates is evaluated in terms of the non-dimensional load-deflection curve, and it is parametrically investigated with respect to the existence/non-existence and gradient pattern of CNTs, the width-to-thickness and aspect ratios of plates and the type of boundary conditions. The non-dimensional central deflection is significantly reduced when CNTs and added, and it decreases with the volume fraction of CNTs. But, it shows a uniform increase in proportion to the width-to-thickness and aspect ratios. Both the gradient pattern of CNTs and the type of boundary conditions do also show the remarkable effects.
This paper is first implemented with the bending behavior of three-dimensional functionally graded (3DFG) plates in the framework of level set-based topology optimization (LS-based TO). Besides, due to the suitable properties of the current design domain, the thin-plate spline (TPS) is recognized as a RBF to construct the LS function. The overall mechanical properties of the 3DFG plate are assessed using a power-law distribution scheme via Mori-Tanaka micromechanical material model. The bending response is obtained using the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The mixed interpolation of four elements of tensorial components (MITC4) is also implemented to overcome a well-known shear locking problem when the thickness becomes thinner. The Hamilton-Jacobi method is utilized in each iteration to enforce the necessary boundary conditions. The mathematical formulas are expressed in great detail for the LS-based TO using 3DFG materials. Several numerical examples are exhibited to verify the efficiency and reliability of the current methodology with the previously reported literature. Finally, the influences of FG materials in the optimized design are explained in detail to illustrate the behaviors of optimized structures.
We have utilized soft-aperturing by gain media to develop a high-power tunable Ti:Sapphire laser with sub-40-fs and broad tuning range. The tunable spectral range was only limited by the bandwidth of mirrors. We made use of knife-edge slits near an intra-cavity prism controlled by micro-stepping-motors to tune the center wavelength continuously. The tunability of the center wavelength was ranged from 770 nm to 870 nm, and the measured pulsewidth was sub-40 fs throughout the above spectral range. The shortest pulsewidth was about 17 fs at the center wavelength of 820 nm and the spectral bandwidth was 72 nm. At 5 W pumping power of the Ar-ion laser we obtained average output power of 440 mW~580 mW. For the cw and Kerr-lens mode-lodking conditions, we have evaluated the value of an amplitude modulation to be ${\gamma}=2.5{\times}10^{-8}/W$ from the calculated waists of a Gaussian beam on the Ti:sapphire crystal surface. Using this result we demonstrate that the generation of sub-40-fs Kerr-lens mode-locked pulse can be described by the Ginzberg-Landau model which is a weak pulse shaping model.

The impact stress and wave propagation of graphite/epoxy and glass/epoxy laminates subjected to the transverse low-velocity impact of steel balls are investigated theoretically. A plate finite element model based on Whitney and Pagano's theory for the analysis of heterogeneous and anisotropic plates taking into account of the transverse shear deformation is used for the theoretical investigation. This model is in conjuction with static contact laws. The basic element is a four-node quadrilateral with the five degrees-of-freedom per node. The reduced integration technique is used for shear locking associated with low-order function in application to thin plates. These two materials are composed of [0.deg./45.deg./0.deg./-45.deg./0.deg.]$_{2S}$ and [90.deg./45.deg./90.deg./-45.deg./90.deg.]$_{2S}$ stacking sequences and have clamped-clamped boundary conditions. Finally, the present results are compared with an existing solution and wave propagation theory and then impact stress and wave propagation phenomena are investigated.gated.

In order to protect coastal facilities mainly from wave and current actions, the self-locking bio blocks constituting component elements of protecting structures against scouring were designed. These blocks are adapted to the sloping bottom, coastal dunes, and submerged coastal base counteracting the destructive and erosive impulse action. A series of laboratory experiments is necessary to investigate the reflection of water waves over and against a train of protruded or submerged shore structures and compare the reflecting capabilities of incident waves including wave forces. In this study the hydraulic model experiment was conducted to identify the performance of newly designed water affinity bio blocks to keep the coast slope and bottom mound from scouring by reduction of the reflection coefficient and to convince stability of the placements. Revised design of each element of blocks were also tested for field conditions. From the result of experiment, the field applicability of the developed blocks and placement is to be discussed afterward.
Client-server DBMS based on a data-skipping model can exploit client resources effectively by allowing inter-transaction caching. However, inter-transaction caching raises the need of transactional cache consistency maintenance(TCCM) protocol, since each client is able to cache a portion of the database dynamically. Detection-based TCCM schemes can reduce the message overhead required for cache consistency if they validate clients replica asynchronously, and thus they cm show high throughput rates. However, they tend to show high ratios of transaction abort since transactions can access invalid replica. For coping with this drawback, this paper develops a new notion of shadow transaction, which is a backup-purpose one that is kept ready to replace an aborted transaction. This paper proposes a new detection-based TCCM scheme named DL-ST on the basis of the notion of shadow transaction. Using a simulation model, this paper evaluates the effect of shadow transaction in terms of transaction through rate and abort ratio.

This paper addresses the finite element modeling of functionally graded porous (FGP) beams for free vibration and buckling behaviour cases. The formulated finite element is based on simple and efficient higher order shear deformation theory. The key feature of this formulation is that it deals with Euler-Bernoulli beam theory with only three unknowns without requiring any shear correction factor. In fact, the presented two-noded beam element has three degrees of freedom per node, and the discrete model guarantees the interelement continuity by using both C0 and C1 continuities for the displacement field and its first derivative shape functions, respectively. The weak form of the governing equations is obtained from the Hamilton principle of FGP beams to generate the elementary stiffness, geometric, and mass matrices. By deploying the isoparametric coordinate system, the derived elementary matrices are computed using the Gauss quadrature rule. To overcome the shear-locking phenomenon, the reduced integration technique is used for the shear strain energy. Furthermore, the effect of porosity distribution patterns on the free vibration and buckling behaviours of porous functionally graded beams in various parameters is investigated. The obtained results extend and improve those predicted previously by alternative existing theories, in which significant parameters such as material distribution, geometrical configuration, boundary conditions, and porosity distributions are considered and discussed in detailed numerical comparisons. Determining the impacts of these parameters on natural frequencies and critical buckling loads play an essential role in the manufacturing process of such materials and their related mechanical modeling in aerospace, nuclear, civil, and other structures.

This study attempts to simulate the structure of a woody leaf netted venation system by using topology optimization techniques. Based on finite element method (FEM) analysis of an incompressible fluid, a topology optimal design is applied to those woody leaf netted venation models. To solve the transverse shear locking problem of a thin plate caused by the Mindlin-Reissner plate model where a leaf netted venation is assumed to be a thin plate, a P1-nonconforming element and selective reduced integration are employed. Topology optimal design is applied to multiple physical domains. Combined with the Darcy-Stokes flow problems and extended to the optimal design of fluid channels, the multiple physical models of the flow system are analyzed and venation patterns of leafs are simulated. The calculated optimal shapes are compared with the natural shapes of woody leaf venation patterns. This interdisciplinary approach may improve our understanding of the leaf venation system.

In this paper, experimental studies on the shroud separation were performed to investigate characteristics of the shroud separation at mach 3. Shroud separation tests were carried out in the vertical free-jet wind tunnel that is capable of testing separable structures. A shroud model was miniaturized to meet test objectives and test section dimensions of the wind tunnel. Pneumatic Locking and separation mechanisms were designed considering external force due to free stream. High speed cameras were used to record the shroud motion and unsteady shock patterns over the deploying shrouds during the shroud separation process. Also, unsteady pressures on the nose surface were measured by using the pressure sensors. Through the tests, the measurement data necessary for researches on the shroud separation technology were obtained. Shroud separation behaviors and characteristics of unsteady pressure on the nose surface for each external flow conditions were analyzed.

In this paper, a design methodology for the frequency-adaptive negative-delay circuit which can be implemented in standard CMOS memory process is proposed. The proposed negative-delay circuit which is a basic type of the analog SMD (synchronous mirror delay) measures the time difference between the input clock period and the target negative delay by utilizing analog behavior and repeats it in the next coming cycle. A new technology that compensates the auxiliary delay related with the output clock in the measure stage differentiates the Proposed method from the conventional method that compensates it in the delay-model stage which comes before the measure stage. A wider negative-delay range especially prominent in the high frequency performance than that in the conventional method can be realized through the proposed technology. In order to implement the wide locking range, a new frequency detector and the method for optimizing the bias condition of the analog circuit are suggested. An application example to the clocking circuits of a DDR SDRAM is simulated and demonstrated in a 0.6 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ n-well double-poly double-metal CMOS technology.
