  • Recently, pile foundations were constructed in rough or soft ground than ground of well condition thus it is important that prediction of ultimate bearing capacity and calculation of proper safety factor applied pile foundation design. This study were performed to dynamic loading tests for the thirty two piles at four different construction sites and selected pile at three site were performed to static loading tests and then compare with measured value and value of static and dynamic loading tests. The load-settlement curve form the dynamic loading tests by CAPWAP was very similar to the results obtained from the static load tests. Based on dynamic and static loading tests, the reliability of pile-driving formula were analyzed and then suggested with proper safety factor for prediction of allowable bearing capacity in this paper.

  • This paper reviewed and summarized the experimental studies conducted during last three decades to evaluate the structural integrity and to establish the acceptance criteria for piping system of nuclear power plants (NPPs) under seismic loading condition. These experimental studies contain the results of large-scale piping system tests under excessive seismic loading as well as standard specimen tests, simplified piping specimen tests, and piping components tests under simplified dynamic and cyclic loading. These would be useful as a basis for establishing integrity assessment procedure and acceptance criteria for piping systems of NPPs under beyond design basis earthquake (BDBE) conditions, and also could be used in planing the scope and direction of further related researches.

  • In this paper, the Coefficient of Subgrade Reaction was analyzed from the data which were the results of lateral pile loading tests and pressuremeter tests on construction sites. The prediction method with N-value was compared with lateral pile loading tests and the results of lateral pile loading tests were compared with the prediction method considering diameter of a pile. Also, the results of lateral pressuremeter tests were compared with those of lateral pile loading tests. As a result, consideration for a diameter and lateral deformation of a pile was needed when the coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction is presumed. Therefore, a formula which is taking into account the allowable deformation of a pile was suggested from lateral pressuremeter tests in this study.

  • In this study, the static and dynamic load tests were carried out to propose the safety factor of steel prebored and precast piles in weathered rocks. The axial load tests have been conducted on test piles with nominal diameters of 0.508 and 0.457 m. The piles were subject to static loading tests (14 times) and dynamic loading tests (EOID 14times, Restrike 14times). The dynamic loading tests were first executed after the casting of test piles ((1) initial EOID test). (2)In the succeding 28 days from completion of construction, static load tests were performed and (3)final restrike tests were carried out after 15 days from the static test. As a result, the bearing capacity based on Davisson method was 15% higher than that of the restrike tests. The bearing capacity of the static load tests were larger than that of the dynamic tests. By comparing the safety factor through various loading tests, the safety factor of dynamic loading tests were suggested to be lowered to 1.75 from the conventional 2.0.

  • In the present study the behavior of fire and the residual strength of fire-ignited RC slabs are investigated by experimental tests and numerical simulations. The fire tests of RC slabs were carried out in a furnace using the ISO 834 standard fire. The load capacity of the cooled RC slabs that were not loaded during the fire tests was evaluated by additional 3 point bending tests. The influence of the proportion of PP (polypropylene) fibers in the RC slabs on the structural behavior of the RC slabs after the fire loading was investigated. The results of the fire tests showed that the maximum temperature of concrete with PP fiber was lower than that of concrete without PP fiber. As the concrete was heated, the ultimate compressive strength decreased and the ultimate strain increased. The load-deflection relations of RC slabs after fire loading were compared by using existing stress-strain-temperature models. The comparison between the numerical analysis and the experimental tests showed that some numerical analyses were reliable and therefore, can be applied to evaluate the ultimate load of RC slabs after fire loading. The ultimate load capacity after cooling down the RC slabs without PP fiber showed a considerable reduction from that of the RC slabs with PP fiber.

  • Recently geosynthetics that can be constructed on soft ground have been used for reinforcement and separation in various ways. Through laboratory model tests and numerical analysis, in this study, estimated the suitability of cable elements and appropriate input factors considering loading effect in modeling of geosynthetics. First, in laboratory model tests, geosynthetics were constructed on the clay, and covered with the thickness, 7.5cm of sand mat. And then static and dynamic model tests were performed measuring loading, settlement, ground lateral displacement, and displacements of geosynthetics, but, for cyclic loading, bearing capacity increased linearly with stiff slop because cyclic loading with constant cyclic pressure compacted the ground. Numerical analysis were performed with FLAC 4.0 2D using Mohr-Coulomb and Modified Cam-Clay models, and they compared with the results of model tests. Cable elements of FLAC in modeling geosynthetics couldn't consider the characteristics of geosynthetics that increase shear strength between geosynthetics and clay according to the loading increase. Therefore, in this study, appropriate equation that can consider loading effects in Cable elements was proposed by Case Study.

  • In order to verify the applicability of the developed modified parallel IWAN model. two types of cyclic torsional shear tests were performed using Kum-Kang and Toyoura sands. One was a symmetric-limit loading test and the other was an irregular loading test. Model parameters were derived from the symmetric limit loading tests at various relative densities and confining pressures. The modified parallel IWAN model can predict the cyclic hardening behavior of sands very well as increasing loading cycles in the symmetric-limit tests. Irregular loading tests were performed using the loading shape suggested by Pyke(1979). Cyclic behaviors under irregular loading were simulated using model parameters derived from symmetric limit loading test results of similar loading conditions. The predicted cyclic hardening behaviors under irregular loading matched well with experimental results and the applicability of the proposed model was verified.

  • An experimental program of isotropic loading tests on a compacted kaolin using a conventional triaxial equipment modified for testing unsaturated soils was perform to investigate a loading collapse curve of unsaturated soils along wetting and drying paths. The test data are presented in terms of effective stress on a range of constant suction. The suction hardening behavior was observed for both wetted and dried samples. With the use of an appropriate effective stress parameter, the unique relationship for loading collapse curve for wetting and drying processes was obtained.

  • Recently, a novel cast-in specialty insert was developed in Korea as an anchor for lightweight pipe supports, including fire-protection pipes. As these pipe supports and anchors play a critical role in transferring loads of fire-protection pipes to structural members, it is crucial to evaluate their seismic performance before applying the newly developed insert. In this study, the seismic shear performance of the insert anchors was evaluated through cyclic loading tests based on the loading protocols of ACI 355.2 and FEMA 461. Initially, five monotonic loading tests were conducted on the insert anchors in cracked concrete, followed by cyclic loading tests based on the monotonic test results. The findings revealed that the insert anchors exhibited negligible decrease in shear strength even after cyclic loading. Furthermore, a comparison of the maximum load and displacement of the insert anchors obtained under the loading protocols of ACI 355.2 and FEMA 461 was performed to investigate the applicability of the FEMA 461 loading protocol for anchor performance evaluation.
