All solid-state thin film lithium batteries have many applications in miniaturized devices because of lightweight, long-life, low self-discharge and high energy density. The research of cathode materials for thin film lithium batteries that provide high energy density at fast discharge rates is important to meet the demands for high-power applications. Among cathode materials, lithium manganese oxide materials as spinel-based compounds have been reported to possess specific advantages of high electrochemical potential, high abundant, low cost, and low toxicity. However, the lithium manganese oxide has problem of capacity fade which caused by dissolution of Mn ions during intercalation reaction and phase instability. For this problem, many studies on effect of various transition metals have been reported. In the preliminary study, the Sn-substituted LiMn2O4 thin films prepared by pulsed laser deposition have shown the improvement in discharge capacity and cycleability. In this study, the thin films of LiMn2O4 and LiSn0.0125Mn1.975O4 prepared by RF magnetron sputtering were studied with effect of deposition parameters on the phase, surface morphology and electrochemical property. And, all solid-state thin film batteries comprised of a lithium anode, lithium phosphorus oxy-nitride (LiPON) solid electrolyte and LiMn2O4-based cathode were fabricated, and the electrochemical property was investigated.
In situ electrochemical atomic force microscopy (ECAFM) observations of the surface of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) was performed before and after cyclic voltammetry in lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) dissolved in 1-buthyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium (BDMI)-TFSI to understand the interfacial reactions between graphite and BDMI-based ionic liquids. The formation of blisters and the exfoliation of graphene layers by the intercalation of $BDMI^+$ cations within HOPG were observed instead of reversible lithium intercalation and de-intercalation. On the other hand, lithium ions are reversibly intercalated into the HOPG and de-intercalatied from the HOPG without intercalation of the $BDMI^+$ cations in the presence of 15 wt% of 4.90 mol/$kg^{-1}$ LiTFSI dissolved in propylene carbonate (PC). ECAFM results revealed that the concentrated PC-based solution is a very effective additive for preventing $BDMI^+$ intercalation through the formation of solid electrolyte interface (SEI).

A facile method for surface coating with $Li_2TiF_6$ which has a high lithium-ion conductivity, on $LiMn_2O_4$ spinel cathode material for high performance lithium ion batteries. The surface coating is performed by using a co-precipitation method with $Li_2CO_3$ powder and $H_2TiF_6$ solution under room temperature and atmospheric pressure without special equipment. Total coating amount of $Li_2TiF_6$ is carefully controlled from 0 to 10 wt.% based on the active material of $LiMn_2O_4$. They are evaluated by a systematic combination of analyses comprising with XRD, SEM, TEM and ICP. It is found that the surface modification of $Li_2TiF_6$ is very beneficial to high cycle life and excellent rate capability by reducing surface failure and supporting lithium ions transportation on the surface. The best coating condition is found to have a high cycle life of $103mAh\;g^{-1}$ at the 100th cycle and a rate capability of $102.9mAh\;g^{-1}$ under 20 C. The detail electrochemical behaviors are investigated by AC impedance and galvanostatic charge and discharge test.

In this paper, we propose a deep learning model that utilizes charge/discharge data from initial lithium-ion batteries to predict the remaining useful life of lithium-ion batteries. We build the DMP using the PNP model. To demonstrate the performance of DMP, we organize DML using the LSTM model and compare the remaining useful life prediction performance of lithium-ion batteries between DMP and DML. We utilize the RMSE and RMSPE error measurement methods to evaluate the performance of DMP and DML models using test data. The results reveal that the RMSE difference between DMP and DML is 144.62 [Cycle], and the RMSPE difference is 3.37 [%]. These results indicate that the DMP model has a lower error rate than DML. Based on the results of our analysis, we have showcased the superior performance of DMP over DML. This demonstrates that in the field of lithium-ion batteries, the PNP model outperforms the LSTM model.
We have performed a study on the electrochemical characteristics and nuclear ($^7Li$) magnetic resonance of $V_2O_5$ xerogels that have been synthesized by the sol-gel reaction of $V_2O_5$ powder with hydrogen peroxide. NMR measurements revealed that chemical shift of $Li^+$ ions varied as lithium ions were inserted into $V_2O_5$ xerogel and that several different sites for $Li^+$ ions existed in the $V_2O_5$ xerogel structure. The electrochemical properties of the xerogel electrodes did not depend much upon the concentration of $V_2O_5$ and HCl that were used for the synthesis of $V_2O_5$ gels. The specific capacity of $V_2O_5$ xerogels were about 140 mAh/g, similar to that of the xerogels prepared by the ion exchange method.
Although Lithium metal battery (LMB) has a very large theoretical capacity, it has a critical problem such as formation of dendrite which causes short circuit and short cycle life of the LMB. In this study, PDMS/GO composite with evenly dispersed graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets in poly (dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) was synthesized and coated into a thin film, resulting in the effect that can physically suppress the formation of dendrite. However, PDMS has low ion conductivity, so that we attained improved ion conductivity of PDMS/GO thin film by etching technic using 5wt% hydrofluoric acid (HF), to facilitate the movement of lithium (Li) ions by forming the channel of Li ions. The morphology of the PDMS/GO thin film was observed to confirm using SEM. When the PDMS/GO thin film was utilized to lithium metal battery system, the columbic efficiency was maintained at 87.4% on average until the 100th cycles. In addition, voltage profiles indicated reduced overpotential in comparison to the electrode without thin film.

The single-crystal structure of fully dehydrated partially $Li^+$-exchanged zeolite Y, ${\mid}Li_{50}Na_{25}{\mid}[Si_{117}Al_{75}O_{384}]$-FAU, was determined by single-crystal synchrotron X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group $Fd\bar{3}m$ at 100(1) K. Ion exchange was accomplished by flowing stream of 0.1 M aqueous $LiNO_3$ for 2 days at 293 K, followed by vacuum dehydration at 623 K and $1{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr for 2 days. The structure was refined using all intensities to the final error indices (using only the 801 reflections with ($F_o$ > $4{\sigma}(F_o)$) $R_1/R_2=0.043/0.140$. The 50 $Li^+$ ions per unit cell are found at three different crystallographic sites. The 19 $Li^+$ ions occupy at site I' in the sodalite cavity: the $Li^+$ ions are recessed 0.30 ${\AA}$ into the sodalite cavity from their 3-oxygens plane (Li-O = 1.926(5) ${\AA}$ and $O-Li-O=117.7(3)^{\circ}$). The 20 $Li^+$ ions are found at site II in the supercage, being recessed 0.23 ${\AA}$ into the supercage (Li-O = 2.038(5) ${\AA}$ and $O-Li-O=118.7(3)^{\circ}$). Site III' positions are occupied by 11 $Li^+$ ions: these $Li^+$ ions bind strongly to one oxygen atom (Li-O = 2.00(8) ${\AA}$). About 25 $Na^+$ ions per unit cell are found at four different crystallographic sites: 4 $Na^+$ ions are at site I, 5 at site I', 12 at site II, and the remaining 4 at site III'.
Demand for lithium-based secondary batteries is greatly increasing with the explosive growth of related industries, such as mobile devices and electric vehicles. In Korea, there are several top-rated global lithium-ion battery manufacturers accounting for 40% of the global secondary battery business. Most discarded lithium secondary batteries are recycled as scrap to recover valuable metals, such as Nickel and Cobalt, but residual wastes are disposed of according to the residual lithium-ion concentration. Furthermore, there has not been an attempt on the possibility of water discharge system contamination due to the concentration of lithium ions, and the effluent water quality standards of public sewage treatment facilities are becoming stricter year after year. In this study, the as-received waste water generated from the cathode electrode coating process in the manufacturing of high-nickel-based NCM cathode material used for high-performance and long-term purposes was analyzed. We suggested a facile recycling process chart for waste water treatment. We revealed a correlation between lithium-ion concentration and pH effect according to the proposed waste water of each recycling process through analyzing standard water quality tests and daphnia ecological toxicity. We proposed a realistic waste water treatment plan for lithium electrode manufacturing plants via comparison with other industries' ecotoxicology.

Lithium ion secondary battery has been applied widely to portable devices, and has been studied for application to high power electric cell system such as power tool or hybrid electronic vehicle. The structure change of the electrodes materials occur when lithium ions move between electrodes. Neutron or X-rays can analyze the structure of electrode. The advantage of X-rays is convenient in test. However X-rays is scattered by electron cloud in atoms. Therefore, The elucidation for correct position of lithium is difficult with X-rays because lithium has small atomic weight. Neutron analysis techniques could solve this problem. In this review, We wish to discuss about structure analysis and the principle of structural characterization method using neutron beam source.
Lithium ion batteries (LIBs) is a kind of rechargeable secondary battery, developed from lithium battery, lithium ions move between the positive and negative electrodes to realize the charging and discharging of external circuits. Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) are porous crystalline materials in which organic imidazole esters are cross-linked to transition metals to form a framework structure. In this article, ZIF-67 is used as a sacrificial template to prepare nano porous carbon (NPC) coated cobalt nanoparticles. The final product Co/NPC composites with complete structure, regular morphology and uniform size were obtained by this method. The conductive network of cobalt and nitrogen doped carbon can shorten the lithium ion transport path and present high conductivity. In addition, amorphous carbon has more pores that can be fully in contact with the electrolyte during charging and discharging. At the same time, it also reduces the volume expansion during the cycle and slows down the rate of capacity attenuation caused by structure collapse. Co/NPC composites first discharge specific capacity up to 3115 mA h/g, under the current density of 200 mA/g, circular 200 reversible capacity as high as 751.1 mA h/g, and the excellent rate and resistance performance. The experimental results show that the Co/NPC composite material improves the electrical conductivity and electrochemical properties of the electrode. The cobalt based ZIF-67 as the precursor has opened the way for the design of highly performance electrodes for energy storage and electrochemical catalysis.
