  • The circularity and particle size distribution of products obtained from dry classification after circularity tests using a high-intensity mixer were investigated to evaluate the use of domestic graphite concentrate as a lithium-ion battery material. At a rotor speed of 3,000 rpm, the particle size and circularity of the concentrated sample and product were unchanged. The circularity increased and particle size decreased when the rotor speeds were increased to 6,000 rpm, 10,000 rpm, and 12,000 rpm and the operating time was increased. For instance, the circularity increased from 0.870 to 0.936 when the rotor speed was increased from 3,000 rpm to 12,000 rpm for an operating time of 10 min. After the circularity test, dry classification was performed, wherein the circularity of the coarse particles was found to have increased to 0.947. Round particles were observed in the SEM images, indicating that high circularity was successfully achieved.

  • In this study, the particle size of Si polycrystals was controlled through wet-sedimentation method, and changes in the capacity and cyclic characteristics of the Si anode material according to the particle size were observed. After wet-sedimentation of Si particles pulverized by a vibration mill, the non-uniform particle distribution of Si was uniformly controlled. The d50 of a sample in which Si was sedimented for 24 hours decreased to 0.50 ㎛. As a result of the electrochemical characteristic analysis, the Rct value representing the resistance in the electrode was significantly reduced due to the decrease in particle size. The unclassified Si sample exhibited a discharge capacity of 2,869 mAh/g in the first cycle, and decreased to 85.7 mAh/g after 100 cycles. The sample in which Si was classified for 24 hours showed a capacity of 3,394 mAh/g initially, and maintained a capacity of 1,726 mAh/g after 100 cycles. As the size of the Si particles decreased, the discharge capacity increased and the cycle life was also increased.

  • In this present article, the mechanical behavior of single-walled black phosphorene nanotubes (SW-αPNTs) is simulated using molecular dynamics (MD). The proposed model is subjected to the axial loading and the effects of morphological parameters, such as the mono-vacancy defect and strain rate on the tensile behavior of the zigzag and armchair SW-αPNTs are studied as a pioneering work. In order to assess the accuracy of the MD simulations, the stress-strain response of the current MD model is successfully verified with the efficient quantum mechanical approach of the density functional theory (DFT). Along with reproducing the DFT results, the accurate MD simulations successfully anticipate a significant variation in the stress-strain curve of the zigzag SW-αPNTs, namely the knick point. Predicting such mechanical behavior of SW-αPNTs may be an important design factor for lithium-ion batteries, supercapacitors, and energy storage devices. The simulations show that the ultimate stress is increased by increasing the diameter of the pristine SW-αPNTs. The trend is identical for the ultimate strain and stress-strain slope as the diameter of the pristine zigzag SW-αPNTs enlarges. The obtained results denote that by increasing the strain rate, the ultimate stress/ultimate strain are respectively increased/declined. The stress-strain slope keeps increasing as the strain rate grows. It is worth noting that the existence of mono-atomic vacancy defects in the (12,0) zigzag and (0,10) armchair SW-αPNT structures leads to a drop in the tensile strength by amounts of 11.1% and 12.5%, respectively. Also, the ultimate strain is considerably altered by mono-atomic vacancy defects.

  • The theoretical capacity of silicon-based anode materials is more than 10 times higher than the capacity of graphite, so silicon can be used as an alternative to graphite anode materials. However, silicon has a much higher contraction and expansion rate due to lithiation of the anode material during the charge and discharge processes, compared to graphite anode materials, resulting in the pulverization of silicon particles during repeated charge and discharge. To compensate for the above issues, there is a growing interest in SiOx materials with a silica or carbon coating to minimize the expansion of the silicon. In this study, spherical silica (SiO2) was synthesized using TEOS as a starting material for the fabrication of such SiOx through heating in a reduction atmosphere. SiOx powder was produced by adding PVA as a carbon source and inducing the reduction of silica by the carbothermal reduction method. The ratio of TEOS to distilled water, the stirring time, and the amount of PVA added were adjusted to induce size and morphology, resulting in uniform nanosized spherical silica particles. For the reduction of the spherical monodisperse silica particles, a nitrogen gas atmosphere mixed with 5 % hydrogen was applied, and oxygen atoms in the silica were selectively removed by the carbothermal reduction method. The produced SiOx powder was characterized by FE-SEM to examine the morphology and size changes of the particles, and XPS and FT-IR were used to examine the x value (O/Si ratio) of the synthesized SiOx.

  • Explosion involving rapid energy diffusion are causing enormous human and economic damage. Due to the advancement of the industry, various and widespread explosion accidents are occurring worldwise, and to prevent such explosion accidents, accurate cause analysis should be the basis. Research analysis related to worldwise explosion accidents was carried out in a limited range for some accidents. By conducting bibliometric analysis of keywords on all the papers published in international journals, this study attempted to derive the overall research trend by period and the latest fields in which future researchers may be interested. As a result of the study of keywords, the number of papers was generally small and the number of overall key words was small from 2005 to 2014, but numerical simulation and artificial intelligence have been used for the analysis of explosion accident cases since 2015, and various studies such as lithium-ion battery and mixed gas, which are the latest research fields, are currently being actively conducted.

  • Recently, with the expanding market for electronic devices and electric vehicles, secondary battery usage has been on the rise. Lithium-ion batteries are particularly popular due to their fast charging times and lightweight nature compared to other types of batteries. A secondary battery consists of four components: anode, cathode, electrolyte, and separator. Generally, the positive and negative electrode materials of secondary batteries are composed of an active material, a binder, and a conductive material. Acetylene Black (AB) is utilized to enhance conductivity between active material particles or metal dust collectors, preventing the binder from acting as an insulator. However, when recycling waste batteries that have been subject to high usage, there is a risk of fire and explosion accidents, as accurately identifying the characteristics of Acetylene Black dust proves to be challenging. In this study, the lower explosion limit for Acetylene Black dust with an average particle size of 0.042 ㎛ was determined to be 153.64 mg/L using a Hartmann-type dust explosion device. Notably, the dust did not explode at values below 168 mg, rendering the lower explosion limit calculation unfeasible. Analysis of explosion delay times with varying electrode gaps revealed the shortest delay time at 3 mm, with a noticeable increase in delay times for gaps of 4 mm or greater. The findings offer fundamental data for fire and explosion prevention measures in Acetylene Black waste recycling processes via a predictive model for lower explosion limits and ignition delay time.

  • Lithium-ion batteries (LIB) are widely used in various sectors, such as transportation (e.g., electric vehicles (EV)) and energy (e.g., energy storage facilities) due to their high energy density, broad operating temperature (-20 ℃ ~ 60 ℃), and high capacities. LIBs are powerful but fragile on external factors, including pressure, physical damage, overheating, and overcharging, that cause thermal runaway causing fires and explosions. During a LIB fire, a large amount of oxygen is generated from the decomposition of ionogenic materials. A water fire extinguisher that helps with cooling and suffocating must be essentially required at the same time. In fact, however, it is difficult to suppress LIB fires in the case of EVs because a LIB is installed with a battery pack housing that interrupts direct extinguishing by water. Thus, this study aims to investigate effective fire extinguishing measurements for LIB fires by using an EV. Relevant documents, including research articles and reports, were reviewed to identify effective ways of LIBs fire extinguishing. A real-scale fire experiment generating thermal runaway was carried out to figure out the combustion characteristics of EVs. This study revealed that the most effective fire extinguishing measurements for LIB fires are applying fire blankets and water tanks. However, there is still a lack of adequate regulation and guidelines for LIB fire extinguishment. Taking this into account, developing functional fire extinguishment measurements and available regulatory instruments is an urgent issue to secure the safety of firefighters and citizens.

  • After steel bar was corroded it removes concrete contaminated, it does steel bar corrosion protection, repairing method and corrosion inhibitor spreading method are difficult to secure corrosion protection performance. Accordingly, in this research before Research and Development to penetrate corrosion inhibitor to high pressure by steel bar position, it measures penetration depth through corrosion inhibitor high pressure penetration experiment and amount of nitrite by position and then it predicts penetration depth in accordance with water-cement ratio, pressure, pressure time and it computed water-cement ratio, pressure, pressure time to be more than 0.6 mol ratio of chloride ion and nitrite to have outstanding corrosion protection performance. As a result of experiment, water-cement ratio gives the biggest influence to penetration of corrosion inhibitor and also the more depth of specimen becomes deep, concentration of penetrated corrosion inhibitor does not equal and becomes low.

  • The introduction of the sector coupling concept has expanded the scope of ESS utilization, resulting in the importance of thermal management of ESS. To ensure the safe use of the lithium-ion batteries that are used in ESS, it is important to use the batteries at the optimal temperature. To examine the utilization of liquid cooling in ESS, numerical study was conducted on the thermal characteristics of 21700 battery modules (16S2P array) during liquid cooling using Novec-649 as insulating fluid. The NTGK model, an MSMD model in ANSYS fluent, was used to investigate thermal characteristics on the battery modules with liquid immersion cooling. The results show that the final temperature of the battery module discharged at 5 C-rate is 68.9℃ using natural convection and 48.3℃ using liquid cooling. However, the temperature difference among cells in the battery module was up to 0.5℃ when using natural convection cooling and 5.8℃ when using liquid cooling, respectively, indicating that the temperature difference among cells was significantly increased when liquid cooling was used. As the mass flow rate increased from 0.01 kg/s to 0.05 kg/s, the average temperature of the battery module decreased from 48.3℃ to 38.4℃, confirming that increasing the mass flow rate of the insulating fluid improves the performance of liquid immersion cooling. Although partial liquid immersion cooling has a high cooling performance compared to natural convection cooling, the temperature difference between modules was up to 8.9℃, indicating that the thermal stress of the battery cells increased.
