  • Solid materials of ammonia sources with SCR have been considered for the application of lean NOx reduction in automobile industry, to overcome complex problems of liquid urea based SCR. These solid materials produce ammonia gas directly with proper heating and can be packaged by compact size, because of high volumetric ammonia density. Among ammonium salts and metal ammine chlorides, calcium ammine chloride was focused on this paper due to low decomposition temperature. In order to make calcium ammine chloride in lab-scale, simple reactor and glove box was designed and built with ammonium gas tank, regulator, and sensors. Basic test conditions of charging ammonia gas to anhydrous calcium chloride are chosen from equilibrium vapor pressure by Van't Hoff plot based on thermodynamic properties of materials. Synthetic method of calcium ammine chloride were studied for different durations, temperatures, and pressures with proper ammonia gas charged, as a respect of ammonia gas adsorption rate(%) from simple weight calculations which were confirmed by IC. Also, lab-made calcium ammine chloride were analyzed by TGA and DSC to clarify decomposition step in the equations of chemical reaction. To understand material characteristics for lab-made calcium ammine chloride, DA, XRD and FT-IR analysis were performed with published data of literature. From analytical results, water content in lab-made calcium ammine chloride can be discovered and new test procedures of water removal were proposed.

  • Bulk cargo loaded into ship can be damaged by various kinds reasons. This paper aims to analyze about cargo damage of coil carrier ship due to condensation. Condensation is the formation of liquid drops of water from water vapor. Condensation consists of small drops of water which form when warm water vapour or steam touches a cold surface such as a window. In general, condensation have occurred by temperature difference at large building and ship's tank. It is phenomenon that can occur often to oceangoing vessel moving temperature difference places in similar time. This paper proposes a new method using dehumidification device and fan heater to prevent bulk cargo damage of coil carrier ship from condensation.

  • A ventilation-relief valve performs as a safety-valve assembly for the liquid-propellant feeding system of space launch vehicle. This valve plays a role of relieving the vaporized propellants from propellant tanks during the filling and storing stages of propellants. Also it regulates to maintain the pressure of ullage volume of on-board propellant tanks within the safety-margin during the flight. The simulation model of ventilation-relief valve is designed with AMESim to predict and evaluate the dynamic characteristics and pneumatic behaviors of valve. To validate a valve simulation model, the simulation results of the opening and closing pressures and their operating durations of valve by AMESim analysis are compared with the results of mathematical methods. In addition, the results of internal flow simulation with FLUENT are utilized to improve the accuracy of valve-modeling. This study will serve as one of reference guides to enhance the developmental efficiency of ventilation-relief valves with the various operating conditionss, which shall be used in Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II.

  • A vent-relief valve performs as a safety-valve assembly for liquid propellant feeding system of space launch vehicle, which relives pressurant propellant tanks during the filling and the flight. At vent mode, valve is opened and closed by driving pneumatic pressure, and at relief mode, valve is automatically operated to set relief pressure. In this study, we have analyzed a basic layout of vent-relief valve which is designed using foreign LVs(Saturn) to satisfy requirements of Korean Space Launch Vehicle. The simulation model of vent-relief valve is designed by using the AMESim code to verify design parameters and evaluate pneumatic behaviors of valve. In this study, we performed dynamic characteristic simulations on design parameters. And we could predict opening/closing time and pressures, operating performances on design parameters. Using this results, we could suggest detail design and boundary conditions of design.

  • Mycelial viability and cultivation characteristics of strains of Hypsizygus marmoreus after long-term storage were investigated. The experimental conditions were the storage at $4^{\circ}C$ using a slant culture technique with or without mineral oil, and in liquid nitrogen tank in the presence of 10% glycerol or 10% glycerol with 5% trehalose. The myceila of four strains of H. marmoreus were thawed at 9, 21, 33, and 45 months after beginning of the storage, and then the growth of the mycelia was measured on a PDA plate with serial transfers to new plate for the recovery. The mycelial growth data after 45 months showed that the mycelia were mostly viable but not fully active particularly when they were stored in liquid nitrogen with 10% glycerol. The growth activity could be fully recovered after second transfer to new PDA plate. Cultivation of mushroom fruiting body using the recovered mycelia also demonstrated that the storage methods employed in this work were applicable for the long-term storage of H. marmoreus.

  • Urea-SCR system, which converts nitrogen oxides to nitrogen and water in the presence of a reducing agent, usually AdBlue urea solution, is known as one of the powerful NOx reduction systems for mobile as well as stationary applications. For its consistent and reliable operation in mobile applications, such various problems as transient injection, ammonia slip, and freezing in cold weather have to be resolved. In this work, therefore, numerical study on three-dimensional unsteady heating problems were analyzed to understand the melting and heat transfer characteristics such as urea liquid volume fraction, temperature profiles and generated natural convection behavior in urea solution by using the commercial software Fluent 6.3. After validating by comparing numerical and experimental data with pure gallium melting phenomena, numerical experiment for urea melting is conducted with three different coolant heating models named CH1, 2, and 3, respectively. Finally, it can be found that the CH3 model, in which more coolant is concentrated on the lower part of the urea tank, has relatively better melting capability than others in terms of urea quantity of $1{\ell}$ for start-up schedule.

  • A generated problem in treated highly concentrated organic wastewater by activated sludge process is the limitation of biomass concentration and oxygen transfer capability in aeration tank. To overcome the limitation, the deep shaft activated sludge process which has high oxygen transfer capability was applied to the wastewater treatment process. This paper investigated the characteristics of liquid circulation, oxygen transfer and biological treatment of paper mill wastewater by the deep shaft activated sludge process. From the obtained results, it was found that the oxygen transfer capability in the deep shaft system was much greater than those in the conventional aeration systems and almost tantamount to the pure oxygen system. The deep shaft system could treat highly concentrated organic wastewater by higher biomass concentration and organic loading rate.
