  • Nucleic scids transfer the genetic information for serving a central biological purpose. The nucleic acids are polymers of nucleotides and they are mainly ribonucleic acid(RNA) and deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA). The nucleotides are stoichiometrically composed of five-carbon sugars, nitrogeneous bases, and phosphoric acids. The chemistry of nucleic acids and characteristics of different genomes are decribed for further study. Most of DNA genomes tend to be circular including bacterial genomes and eukaryotic mitochondrial DNA. Eukaryotic chromosomes in cells, in contrast, are generally linear. The ends of linear chromosomes are called telomeres. The genomes of different species, such as mammals, plants, invertebrates can be compared with the chromosome ends. The telomeric complex allows cells to distinguish the random DNA breaks and natural chromosomal ends. The very ends of chromosomes cannot be replicated by any ordinary mechanisms. The shortening of telomeric DNA templates in semiconservative replication is occurred with each cell division. The short telomere length is critically related to aging, tumors and dieases.

A Study on the Reliability Analysis for a Linear Type Pneumatic Actuator with Cross Roller Guide (리니어 타입 크로스 롤러 가이드 공압 액추에이터의 신뢰성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • This research presents the performance analysis of the linear type pneumatic actuators that are used in semi-conductor assembly line to transfer some product with high accuracy. To increase positioning and repetitive accuracies, a cross roller guide is implemented inside the pneumatic actuator. The finite element method is used to verify the force against working moments, and reliability analysis is performed to classify the breakdown cases. Also, reliability, failure rate, probability density function, and $B_{10}$ to life are estimated under the boundary of thrust or air leakage conditions. In this study, the failure probabilistic function of the pneumatic actuators is analyzed using Weibull distribution.

  • This study was conducted to improve the understanding of factors affecting an automobile seat cushion in dynamic conditions. When there are two dummies on the seat to measure each places respectively at once, the shape of the transfer function changes because the dummies affect each other as if they are linked with some kind of a spring when under excitation. A simple two-degree-of-freedom linear model is used to define a translational stiffness of dynamic coupling phenomenon. The cushion deflection model was created to find the relation between dynamic coupling and distance. Experimental set-up was made to compare with the two-degree-of-freedom linear model. The dynamic coupling factor could be utilized to improve the dynamic comfort of automobile seats.

  • Among other critical conditions in rotor svstems the large non-linearvibration excited by bearing non-linearity causes the rotor failure. For reducing thiscatastrophic failure and predictive analysis of this phenomena the identificationanalysis of bearing non-linearity in an anisotropic rotor system using the higherorder dFRFs are developed and are shown to be theoretically feasible as innon-rotating structures. For the identification of the anisotropic rotor withanisotropic bearing non-linearity expressed by the displacement in polynomial form,the higher order dFRFs based upon the Volterra series are investigated and depicttheir features by using the simple forms of the normal and reverse dFRFs. Theyproduce additional sub-harmonic resonant peaks, which indicate the existence ofhigher order non-linearties, and show the energy transfer such that the modes fornormal and reuerse dFRFs are exchanged, which are the fundamental differencesfrom what we can expect in linear ones.

  • Buoyancy-driven natural convection is analysed by employing a linear stability theory in hori-zontal porous media with net through flow. Darcy's law is used to model the flow characteristics in porous media. Bated on the results of linear stability analysis, a heat transfer correlation was obtained by employing weakly nonlinear analysis. As the net through flow increases, the system becomes more stable and the effect of the Darcy-Rayleigh number on the Nusselt number decreases.

  • The proposed Novel OverDriving Technology with Optimum Look-up-Table(LUT)is suggested to be a better solution to reducing the occurrence of overshooting caused by the traditional overdriving method implemented to normally liquid crystal (VA mode). Chunghwa Picture Tubes, LTD. (CPT) has successfully implement this tech into 20 inch TFTLCD TV module at the present day. The proposed technology can speed up gray-to-gray response time of LCD less than one half of frame time. On the side, Optimum LUT construction apply the compression scheme to record total actual grayscale transfer characteristics instead of applying the normal spread method such as linear / non-linear interpolation. The memory space is been reduced and the distortion of the image quality is lesser.

  • Sasol Advanced Synthol Reactor was divided into two chambers by grid plate perforated with diffuser holes. The reactor has high stress level beacuse of membrane stress due to internal pressure, thermal stress due to temperature difference and local stress due to structural discontinuity at the juncture of grid plate and shell. Moreover, geometric nonlinear behaviors may appear in the grid plate because of pressure difference between two chambers. In order to survey the stress level and geometric nonlinear behaviors around grid plate, heat transfer analysis, linear static analysis and geometric nonlinear analysis were performed using NISA II developed by EMRC. This paper demonstrates the result of accessment for linear static and geometric nonlinear analysis under various load combinations.

  • In this paper, the decoupling H(sub)$\infty$ controller which minimizes the maximum energy in the output signal is designed to reduce the coupling properties between the input/output variables which make it difficult to control a system efficiently. The state-space formulas corresponding to the existing transfer matrix formulas of the controller are derived for computational efficiency. And for a given decoupling $H_{\infty}$ problem, an efficient method are sought to find the controller coefficients through the LMI(Linear Matrix Inequalities) method by which the problem is formulated into a convex optimization problem.

  • The most important features of linear soil-foundation-structure interaction are reviewed, using stochastic modeling and considering kinematic interaction, inertial interaction, and structural distortion as three separate stages of the dynamic response to the free-field motion. The way in which each of the three dynamic stages modifies the spectral density of the motion is studied, with the emphasis being on interpretation of these results, rather than on the development of new analysis techniques. Structural distortion and inertial interaction analysis are shown to be precisely modeled as linear filtering operations. Kinematic interaction, though, is more complicated, even though it has a filter-like effect on the frequency content of the motion.

  • This article presents theoretical investigations on techniques for the improvement of the dynamic characteristics of slender bridges under wind action. Aerodynamically effective control shields are applied as controlled actuators. The first part of the article describes the modelling of the uncontrolled aeroelastic system. Acting aerodynamic forces are consistently characterised using linear time-invariant transfer elements in terms of rational functions. On this basis, two configuration levels of the uncontrolled system are represented with linear time-invariant state-space models and investigated. The second part of the article addresses controller design and the behaviour of the controlled aeroelastic system. Both fundamental limits for stabilisation and the efficiency for attenuating the influence of gusts are described for different actuator mechanisms. The results are derived and discussed with methods of control theory.
