Starting operation of a linear generator driven by a hydrogen engine (수소연소 선형 발전기의 초기 기동)

  • A linear generator driven by a hydrogen combustion engine has been developed. Unlike rotary engine-generator systems, the linear counterpart is inherently unable to start by itself unless external force is provided for initial compression/ignition cycle. When the generator is connected to utility power lines through a bidirectional power conversion system, however, the self start-up can be done by driving the generator as a motor. This paper introduces a prototype 1kW linear hydrogen engine-generator system being developed and shows the self start-up is possible with proper motoring mode.

A Stability Region of Time-varying Perturbations by Using Generalized Eigenvalue Problem (일반화된 고유치 문제를 이용한 시변 섭동의 안정 범위)

  • The stability robustness problem of continuous linear systems with nominal and delayed time-varying perturbations is considered. In the previous results, the entire bound was derived only for the overall perturbations without separation of the perturbations. In this paper, the sufficient condition for stability of the system with two perturbations, which are nominal and delayed, is expressed as linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). The corresponding stability bounds fer those two perturbations are determined by LMI(Linear Matrix Inequality)-based generalized eigenvalue problem. Numerical examples are given to compare with the previous results and show the effectiveness of the proposed.

  • This paper addresses the robust fault tolerant controller design problems of static output systems with disturbance. The fault is expressed by the abrupt chattering of system parameters. The design conditions are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities and linear matrix equalities. An illustrative example is provided to verify performances of the proposed controller.

  • In large-scale systems, we frequently encounter the time-delay and the uncertainty, and these should be considered in the design of controller because these are the source of the degradation of the system performance and instability of system. In this paper, we consider the robust stability of the linear large scale systems with the uncertainties and the time-delays. The considered uncertainties are both structured uncertainty and the unstructured uncertainty. Also, the considered time-delays are time-varying having finite time derivative limits. Based on the Lyapunov theorem and the linear matrix inequality(LMI) technique, we present two sufficient conditions that guarantee the robust stability of the system. The conditions are expressed as the LMI forms which can be easily checked their feasibility by using the well-known LMI control toolbox. Finally, we show by two examples that our results are less conservative than the previous results.

  • High precision machining technology has become one of the most important parts in the development of a precision machine. Such a machine requires high precision positioning as well as high speed on a large workspace. For machining systems having high precision positioning with a long stroke, it is necessary to examine the repeatability of the reference position decision. Though ball-screw driven linear stages equipped with linear scale have high precision feed drivers and a long stroke, they have some limitations for reference position decisions if they have not been equipped with an accurate home sensor. This study is performed to experimentally examine the repeatability for home position decision of a photo micro sensor as a home switch of a ball-screw driven linear stage by using a capacitance probe.

Reduced Complexity Signal Detection for OFDM Systems with Transmit Diversity

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems with multiple transmit antennas can exploit space-time block coding on each subchannel for reliable data transmission. Spacetime coded OFDM systems, however, are very sensitive to time variant channels because the channels need to be static over multiple OFDM symbol periods. In this paper, we propose to mitigate the channel variations in the frequency domain using a linear filter in the frequency domain that exploits the sparse structure of the system matrix in the frequency domain. Our approach has reduced complexity compared with alternative approaches based on time domain block-linear filters. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed frequency domain block-linear filter reduces computational complexity by more than a factor of ten at the cost of small performance degradation, compared with a time domain block-linear filter.

  • In this paper, a Direct Learning Control (DLC) method is proposed for linear feedback systems to improve the tracking performance when the task of the control system is repetitive. DLC can generate the desired control input directly from the previously learned control inputs corresponding to other output trajectories. It is assumed that all the desired output functions given to the system have some relations called proportionality and it is shown by mathematical analysis that DLC can be utilized to genera additional control efforts for the perfect tracking. To show the validity and tracking performance of the proposed method, some simulations are performed for the tracking control of a linear system with a PI controller.

  • Most of the loads in industrial power distribution systems are balanced and connected to three wires power systems. However, in the user power distribution systems, most of the loads are single & three phase and unbalanced, generating a large amount of non-characteristic harmonics. With the advent of power electronics and proliferation of non-linear loads in industrial power applications, power harmonics and their effects on power quality are a topic of concern. Harmonics by the unbalance voltage and non-linear loads, cause the increase of machine loss and heating. In order to allow current harmonic compensation, a filter must be installed. This paper describes the performance of passive filter under the voltage unbalance and non-linear load.

Efficient Implementation of CG and CR Methods for Linear Systems on a Single Processing Node of the HITACHI SR8000

  • We discuss the iterative methods for linear systems on a single processing node of the HITACHI SR8000. Each processing node of the SR8000 is a shared memory parallel computer which is composed of eight RISC processors with a pseudo-vector facility. We implement highly optimized codes for basic linear operations including a matrix-vector product and apply them to the conjugate gradient (CG) and the conjugate residual (CR) methods for linear systems. Our tuned codes for both method score nearly 50% of the theoretical peak performance, which is the best in the sense that it corresponds to an asymptotic performance of the inner product.

  • This paper presents the optimal short-term operation scheduling by using fuzzy linear programming method on cogeneration systems connected with auxiliary equipments. Simulation is performed in case of the bottomming cycle. Modeling of cogeneration systems and auxiliary equipments is done, the effectiveness of modeling is evaluated through the detailed simulation. After the optimal operation scheduling is established by using linear programming method, the last optimal operation scheduling is established by using fuzzy linear programming method. The results of simulation show the auxiliary equipments can be effeciently operated in case of the bottomming cycle by modeling proposed in this paper.
