  • The purpose of this study is to define the optimized layer pattern of composite wind turbine blade by using a commercial FEM program and to perform the fatigue test of T-Bolt. FEM analysis is done by using a PATRAN and ABAQUS to get a information about stress distribution ,critical deformation shape and get a critical load factor in local buckling analysis. As a result of the linear and nonlinear structural analysis, layer pattern of blade was optimized. T-Bolt is a connecting part of wind turbine blade and rotor hub, therefore T-bolt is cirtical part of wind turbine blade. T-bolt fatigue test is conducted to get a information of life cycle of T-bolt. The test is done by using a hydraulic actuator system

  • Optimal design of panel with trapezoidal type stiffeners was studied using linear and nonlinear deformation theories. Also analysis method was using closed-form analysis and finite difference energy methods, respectively. Various bucking load factors are obatined for stiffened laminated composite panel with trapezoidal type stiffeners and various aspect ratios, which are made from Carbon/Epoxy USN 125 prepreg and are simply-supported on four edges under uniaxial compression. Optimal design analyses are carried out by the nonlinear search optimizer, ADS.

  • Despite the frequent use of ring-stiffened cylinders as a submarine pressure hull or members of various types of offshore structure, their ultimate strength analysis methods have not been well established because of their complex structural characteristics. This paper has established the method how to use commercial softwares based on the finite element method to implement the ultimate strength analysis of ring-stiffened cylinders covering both types of initial imperfection, i.e. initial deformation and initial stress by combining two separately offered functions of common commercial finite element softwares, linear elastic buckling analysis and nonlinear stress analysis. Developed method was applied to one of the world-widely used commercial softwares. ABAQUS for the analysis of ring stiffened cylinders. This paper ends with some useful information about the imperfection sensitivity of ultimate strength ring stiffened cylinders.

  • In order to recognize the allowable bending diameter in coils, the strain as function of diameters is evaluated. The irreversible strain limits of $I_c$ in the easy and hard bending modes were measured. Strains were calculated at the coating film in the easy bending and at outer edge or inner edge in the hard bending of the CC tape, respectively. The tape geometry subjected to bending procedures is considered from the current industrial spool winding operation. Through the linear superposition of strain induced in different bending modes regarding the expressions, the appropriate design for critical bending diameter is suggested. Results proved that the existence of buckling resulting from bending in hard direction when applied strain exceeded 0.6% is possible. The depicted results showed that the strain limit as a viable parameter should be considered for future purposes.

  • This paper experimentally investigates the characteristics of Al-honeycomb sandwich panels which are considered as a promising primary strength member of weight critical large structures. Some tests on the aluminum honeycomb panels subject to 3-point bending or uniaxial compression or crushing load are carried out. Based on the test results, linear elastic response, buckling/ultimate strength and crushing/energy absorption capacity are discussed. Some guidelines for design of aluminum honeycomb panels are given.

  • This paper reports recent developments concerning the application of Generalised Beam Theory (GBT) to the structural analysis of steel-concrete composite bridges. The potential of GBT-based semi-analytical or finite element-based analyses in this field is illustrated/demonstrated by showing that both accurate and computationally efficient solutions may be achieved for a wide range of structural problems, namely those associated with the bridge (i) linear (first-order) static, (ii) vibration and (iii) lateral-torsional-distortional buckling behaviours. Several illustrative examples are presented, which concern bridges with two distinct cross-sections: (i) twin box girder and (ii) twin I-girder. Allowance is also made for the presence of discrete box diaphragms and both shear lag and shear connection flexibility effects.

  • Main goal of this study is to develop MATLAB programming for exact analysis of distortional deformation of the straight box girder. For this purpose, a theory for distortional deformation theory is firstly summarized and then a BEF (Beam on Elastic Foundation) theory is presented using analogy of the corresponding variables. Finally, the governing equation of the beam-column element on elastic foundation is derived. An element stiffness matrix of the beam element is established via a generalized linear eigenvalue problem. In order to verify the efficiency and accuracy of the element using exact dynamic stiffness matrix, buckling loads for the continuous beam structures with elastic foundation and distortional deformations of box girders are calculated.

  • The current study is focused on the evaluation of the ultimate strength of stiffened panels found in ship hull structures that are subjected to combined uniaxial thrust, in-plane and out-of-plane bending moments. This loading condition, which is in general ignored when performing buckling checks, applies to representative control geometries (stiffener with attached plating) as a consequence of the linearly varying normal stresses along the ship's depth induced by the hull-girder vertical bending moment. The problem is generalized by introducing a non-uniform thrust described by a displacement ratio and rotation angle and by introducing the slenderness ratios, within the practical range of interest. The formed design space is explored through methods sourcing from Design of Experiments and by applying non-linear finite element procedures. Surrogate empirical models have been constructed through regression analysis and Response Surface Methods. An additional empirical model is provided to the literature for predicting the ultimate strength under uniaxial thrust. The numerical experimentation has shown that is a significant influence on the ultimate strength of stiffened panels as the thrust non-uniformity increases.

  • The aim of this paper is to investigate nonlinear dynamic responses of functionally graded composite beam resting on the nonlinear viscoelastic foundation subjected to moving mass with temperature rising. The non-linear strain-displacement relationship is considered in the finite strain theory and the governing nonlinear dynamic equation is obtained by using the Hamilton's principle. The Galerkin's decomposition technique is utilized to discretize the governing nonlinear partial differential equation to nonlinear ordinary differential equation and then the governing equation is solved by using of multiple time scale method. The influences of temperature rising, material distribution parameter, nonlinear viscoelastic foundation parameters, magnitude and velocity of the moving mass on the nonlinear dynamic responses are investigated. Also, the buckling temperatures of the functionally graded beams based on the finite strain theory are obtained.
