  • This study investigates Characteristic analysis of Line-start Synchronous Reluctance Motor to substitute for Induction Motor. The results of machine characteristics are analyzed by simulation using Flux2D. Characteristic analysis result of Line-start Synchronous Reluctance Motor is confirmed by the Experimental result.

  • This paper presents the performance investigation and design technology of a Line Start-up Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (LSPMSM) with super premium efficiency, including a design consideration and evaluation for motor start-up, key performance, and advanced finite element analysis FEA) for the design, improvement and verification, prototype build and test, design and test data comparison with a $Premium^{(R)}$ Efficient Induction Motor (PEIM). To assess the design technology, the LSPMSM prototype was built amended from a PEIM with the same frame, stator punching and rated output. Based on the prototype test, two novel design improvements and analyses have been done to eliminate noise and vibration. Additionally, the comparisons with the PEIM on the power factor, efficiency, frame size and active material consumption indicated that a significant performance improvement and active material cost reduction can be achieved by the LSPMSM.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the effects of non-uniform slots in a line start permanent magnet (LSPM) motor. For purposes of the investigation, the simple formula of $2^{nd}$resistance for rotors having different slot areas is deduced. The characteristic analysis using the formula is performed and compared with measurement results.

  • This study investigates the characteristic analysis of Line-start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor considering skew effect. The effects of the skew on machine characteristic are analyzed by using direct co-simulation of Matlab Simulink and Flux2D. Validity of analysis method is confirmed by the analysis result of Non-skew Model.

  • The single phase line start permanent magnet motor has high efficiency and power factor when it operates synchronous speed. The rotor structure is composed of permanent magnet and cage bars. The motor is accelerated by rotor bars and synchronized by magnet and rotor saliency. but starting torque is disturbed by magnet braking torque so, to obtain good starting performance and synchronizing capability. the design of proper permanent magnet is required.   • The purpose of this paper is the optimal design of a single-phase LSPM(Line-Start Permanent Magnet Motor). A single-phase LSPM has a permanent magnet in the rotor that is same as induction motor. For that reason, magnet is operated by breaking torque in starting region and alignment torque in driving region. Therefore, we need the design process considering the trade-off relationship. In this paper, we propose the design process of a single-phase LSPM for a high starting torque and efficiency with equivalent circuit and FEM. And we use Taguchi Method for considering tolerance in manufacture. Finally, we compared the LSPM that is designed in this paper and conventional induction motor.

  • The line start permanent magnet (LSPM) motor has been developed facilitate to the design of the synchronous motor. The rotor of this motor is composed of interior permanent magnets and aluminum bars instead of rotor windings. It is difficult to predict the performance characteristics accurately, because many characteristics are produced by the aluminum rotor bars and the permanent magnets. Therefore, in this paper the dynamic characteristics of the LSPM motor are described and compared via the time-stepped finite element method with those of the cage-type induction motor to find the characteristics of the permanent magnets and the rotor bars in the LSPM motor.

  • Contemporary power systems demand efficient and sustainable technologies. Single-phase induction motors, while widely used, face efficiency challenges due to inherent rotor losses. Proposed solutions include the Line-start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (LSPMSM), leveraging permanent magnets for enhanced energy density but facing demagnetization and cost issues. Alternatively, the Line-start Synchronous Reluctance Motor (LSRM) operates as a hybrid motor without permanent magnets, reducing rotor losses and potentially improving efficiency. This paper focuses on designing an LSRM rotor for air conditioner compressors, analyzing start-up characteristics and efficiency through finite element analysis. A comparative study with single-phase induction motors provides insights for future motor technology selection, balancing efficiency and other requirements.

  • This paper consists of a study in post-assembly magnetization of LSPM (Line Start Permanent Magnet Motor). Recently, LSPM is noted as an alternative to the induction motor because it offers a very high efficiency and unity power factor, And it is necessary for permanent magnets to be magnetized by means of post-assembly magnetization in LSPMS because of the manufacturing cost involved. The manufacturing process is also simpler in post-assembly magnetization than in pre-assembly magnetization. Generally, permanent magnet motors are magnetized by their own stator coil or by magnetizing fixtures. However, the permanent magnet in a LSPM is scarcely magnetized by using them because of the eddy current of the rotor bar. Hence, it is necessary to design a magnetizing fixture that overcomes this problem. In this paper, the author analyses the post-assembly magnetization of a LSPM and proposes a method for designing the magnetizing fixture. The method that the author proposes is to make the number of coil turns greater in order to reduce the effect of the eddy current of the rotor bars.
