Recently, there are three major trends in building school facilities by government. First trend is to reconstruct facilities that have been built for 30 years. Second is the creation of a new town, new construction demanded from the redeveloping area. Finally, third is to build educational convenience facilities such as gymnasium, auditorium and cafeteria etc. When building or reconstructing school facilities, it is important to consider the 7th Education curriculum. The purpose of this study is to propose the guide line of the planning the dimension of Science Laboratory in in elementary school, corresponding to teaming contents and method.
This study presents an automatic matching method for generating a dense, accurate, and discontinuity-preserved digital surface model (DSM) using multiple images acquired by an aerial digital frame camera. The proposed method consists of two main procedures: area-based multi-image matching (AMIM) and stereo-pair epipolar line matching (SELM). AMIM evaluates the sum of the normalized cross correlation of corresponding image points from multiple images to determine the optimal height of an object point. A novel method is introduced for determining the search height range and incremental height, which are necessary for the vertical line locus used in the AMIM. This procedure also includes the means to select the best reference and target images for each strip so that multi-image matching can resolve the common problem over occlusion areas. The SELM extracts densely positioned distinct points along epipolar lines from the multiple images and generates a discontinuity-preserved DSM using geometric and radiometric constraints. The matched points derived by the AMIM are used as anchor points between overlapped images to find conjugate distinct points using epipolar geometry. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated for several different test areas, including urban areas.
This paper proposes a positional estimation method for extracted line features by stereo vision. Based on given reference plane, planar surfaces corresponding the given plane are first extracted. Then, features in the planar surfaces are selected. Using the Extended Kalman Filter the feature positions are estimated by combining area- and feature-based stereo matching results. Experimental results show the proposed method is feasible.
It is revealed that duality and similarity between both capacitance and inductance systems coexist, and also that the former is more efficient than the latter in application viewpoints in time-invariant linear cases as far as both systems are concerned. This paper, using the similarity relation, proposes a new magnetics capacity concept similar to electrostatic capacity so that inductance systems may be interpreted as the corresponding capacitance systems. The new concept makes it convenient to analyze the both systems by unified approach. Finally an example demonstrates the applicability and convenience of the proposed method, through the analysis of capacitances and inductances on the transposed transmission line.
New methods are developed to estimate the effective temperature (Te), surface gravity (log g), and metallicity ([A/H]) simultaneously with the spectral line depth ratios. Using the model atmosphere grids, depth values are calculated for the wavelength range of $4000{\AA}-5600{\AA}$ for various temperatures, gravities, and metallicities. All possible different combinations of line depth ratios for different pairs of ratios are investigated. A graphical 3D figure is produced with X, Y, and Z axes corresponding to Te, log g, and [A/H], respectively. By reading a cross point of two curves plotted by a connection of three parameters obtained from spectral line depth ratio pairs on each of the three projected planes, Te, log g, and [A/H] are determined simultaneously. In addition, an analytical method is devised based on the similar algorithm developed for the graphical method. Our methods were applied to estimate the fundamental atmospheric parameters of the Sun and Arcturus.
OBJECTIVES : Visibility at night can be improved by using retroreflection for short distances and phosphorescent line markings for long distances. In this study, we analyzed the characteristics of the phosphorescent line marking through a laboratory luminance test. Field performance analysis was performed through tests conducted on the road. We also examined the luminance measurement methods using the digital image obtained during the phosphorescent visibility evaluation. METHODS : In this study, the laboratory luminance test of the phosphorescent line marking was conducted using seven specimens to characterize the luminance changes according to the type of the glass beads, the thickness of the phosphorescent line marking, and the brightness and irradiation time of the light source. Phosphorescent and general line markings were made at 150 m to investigate the field luminance performance. A preliminary review of the luminance measurement methods was made using a digital image from a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera. The measured luminance ratio of the general and the phosphorescent line markings was compared with the calculated luminance ratio using luminance analysis. RESULTS : Through the laboratory luminance test, it was seen that the change in luminance, which corresponds to the brightness of the light source, appears large but the influence of the thickness and irradiation time is low. The field performance test of the phosphorescent line marking conducted on the road involved measuring the luminance on the day the marking was made and 7 days after the marking was made. The luminance was found to be $190mcd/m^2$ at 30 min after sunset and approximately $10-12mcd/m^2$ 4h after sunset. The results of the luminance test were captured using a digital image for each time group. The luminance ratio of the phosphorescent line marking, when compared to that of the general line marking, showed a similar trend within a 13% maximum error. Additionally, when this luminance ratio is compared to the direct field measurement, it could be confirmed that the luminance ratio, as captured in the digital image, showed a similar tendency. CONCLUSIONS : 1) The change in luminance corresponding to the brightness of the light source is significant in comparison with that corresponding to the thickness and the irradiation time. In addition, the results of the field test for the phosphorescent line marking satisfied the phosphorescent fire protection standard. 2) We examined the validity of the luminance measurement method using a digital image and we concluded that the change in the luminance ratio shows a similar tendency in both the cases. The results can form the basis for luminance measurement methodology for the construction and maintenance of phosphorescent line markings.
A simple method of on-line stiffness measurement using the wrinkling behavior of paper web between two rollers was presented. The theory and the equation were presented, and lab and mill tests were executed. We called the stiffness measured by Taber tester as 'Taber stiffness', and by tension wrinkling measurement as 'wrinkle stiffness', respectively. Lab experimental results showed Taber and wrinkle stiffness are almost equivalent. In the mill experiment, we could measure the stiffness in the wet state and in the dry state. The dry wrinkle stiffness was close to the taber stiffness, but the wet wrinkle stiffness was much lower than the corresponding taber stiffness.
In this paper, a novel method for wind speed estimation in wind power generation systems is presented. The proposed algorithm is based on estimating the wind speed using Support-Vector-Machines for regression (SVR). The wind speed is estimated using the generator power-speed characteristics as a set of training vectors. SVR is trained off-line to predict a continuos-valued function between the system's inputs and wind speed value. The predicted off-line function as well as the instantaneous generator power and speed are then used to determine the unknown winds speed on-line. The simulation results show that SVR can define the corresponding wind speed rapidly and accurately to determine the optimum generator speed reference for maximum power point tracking.
This paper presents a method to reduce commutation torque ripples occurred during commutation in brushless do motor drives using a single DC-link current sensor. In brushless dc motor drives with a single dc current sensor instead of 3-phase line current sensors, it is noted that dc-link current sensor cannot give any information corresponding to the motor currents during line current commutation intervals. A new technique to resolve such a problem is dealt with based on a deadbeat current control in which motor armature voltage command is computed from a dc-link current reference, an actual current and counter emf voltage. The simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the torque ripple significantly.
