The coarse and fine aggregates that make up the majority of concrete are resources. But, the raw naturals that make up concrete are our earth's resources and there is not a replenishable stock. Also industrial waste and life waste leaped into a pollution source. Therefore, as construction continue, quarries are exhausted and new sources must be discovered. The purpose of this paper is to investigate an application of recycled coal ash plastics in the construction field. The study examined the physical and mechanical properties of recycled coal ash plastics aggregate. In the results, although the absorption and specific gravity of SLAs increases slightly as the fly ash content increases, the compressive strength and modulus of elastic of concrete made with SLAs remains relatively constant when mortar type and volume fraction are also held constant. These values are always lower than natural-weight aggregate concretes.

In this study it compares a Japanese standards which is most similar contents with domestic standards related with the light weight aggregate concrete and derives the fundamental data from the results so that it will be able to refer at maintenance of standards or specifications in future. The case of domestic is the actual more insufficient condition which is described in the standards and the specifications than Japanese standards. For the production of he domestic light weight concrete the development of general standards and construction guides and control of water content ratio of the light weight aggregates become accomplished rightly in quality of construction site.

This study is to develop porous concrete using super absorbent polymer, which possesses insolubility and high absorption capacity, as a substitute material for lightweight soil. Various mixtures were prepared using aggregates, cement, mixing water, and super absorbent polymer, and the absorption ratio and compressive strength were examined for each mixture. As the amount of super absorbent polymer added increased, the absorption ratio also increased, reaching up to 35-105%. However, the compressive strength decreased by 49.5% to 65.3%. This is believed to be due to the inherent properties of super absorbent polymer, which led to an increase in the absorption ratio but, in turn, reduced the binding strength of cement paste particles, resulting in a decrease in compressive strength.
The spherical artificial aggregates (AAs) with a diameter of 8 mm, which contains fly ashes discharged from the fluidized bed combustion in a thermal power plant and clay were manufactured by direct sintering method at $1050{\sim}1250^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes. The effect of fly ash contents on the bloating phenomenon in the AAs was analyzed. The AAs containing fly ash of the amount under 50 wt% showed the black-coring and bloating phenomena. The AAs containing fly ash of the amount over 5Owt%, however, the specific gravity was increased and the color of specimens fully changed to black. These color change phenomena were caused from the formation of FeO by the reduction reaction of almost $Fe_2O_3$ component by the excessive reducing atmosphere formed simultaneously with the rapid emission of the gases generated from the high contents of unburned carbon of with increasing the added fly ash amount. Specific gravity was decreased as fly ash contents increased in the case of sintering at the same temperature condition. Water absorption of all specimens except of the specimens containing 10 wt% fly ashes decreased with increasing sintering temperature. These were because a liquid phase was formed as the increasing the sintering temperature. In the case of the specimens manufactured in this study containing fly ashes discharged from the fluidized bed combustor in a the thermal power plant and 10~90 wt% of clay, the specific gravity was 0.9~1.8 and the water absorptivity was 8~60%, therefore it is considered that those results can be applied to the light or heavy aggregates.
In this study, sintering properties of Artificial Lightweight aggregates(ALAs) prepared from coal ash as a function of sintering temperature (900$^{\circ}$C, 1000$^{\circ}$C, 1100$^{\circ}$C) and time (2min, 5min, 10min) when limestone added as lightweight mineral was investigated. Increasing the sintering temperature resulted simultaneously from a decline of quartz mineral as well as growth of mullite mineral. Addition of limestone to ALAs newly formed sintered minerals such as clinoptilolite and plagioclase. Sintering effect of ALAs prepared from coal ash and limestone was more affected by a sintering temperature than time. As sintering temperature and time increae, transition of macropore to micropore and formation of closed pores were happened, consequently shrank the total pore volume of ALAs. The surface of ALAs sintered at 1000$^{\circ}$C for 5min was nearly not detected open pores due toe amalgamation effect of molten slag layer but homogeneous distributions of closed pores with micro-scale were examined in cross sectional area ALAs. Sintering temperature and time which present the most adequate state, in the preparation of ALAs, are corresponded to 1000$^{\circ}$C and 5min, respectively.
In comparison with ordinary or heavy-weight concrete, light-weight air void concrete has the good aspects in optimizing super tall structure systems for the process of design considering wind load and seismic load by lightening total dead load of buildings and reducing natural resources used. Light-weight air void concrete has excellent properties of heat and sound insulating due to its high amount porosity of air voids. So, it has been used as partition walls and the floor of Ondol which is the traditional Korean floor heating system. Under the condition of which the supply of light-weight aggregates are limited, the development of light-weight concrete using air voids is highly required in the aspects of reduced manufacturing prices and mass production. In this study, we investigated the physical properties and thermal behaviors of specimens that applied different mixing ratios of foaming agent to evaluate the possibility of use in the structural elements. We proposed the estimating equation for compressive strength of each mix having different ratio of foaming agent. We also confirmed that the density of cement matrix is decreased as the mixing amount of foaming agent increase up to 0.6% of foaming agent mixing ratio which was observed by SEM. Based on porosity and compressive strength of control mortar without foaming agent, we built the estimating equations of compressive strength for mortars with foaming agent. The upper limit of use in foaming agent is about 0.6% of the binder amount. Each air void is independent, and size of voids range from 50 to $100{\mu}m$.
The fracture process zone in concrete is a region ahead of a traction-free crack, in which two
major mechanisms, microcracking and bridging, play important roles. The toughness due to
bridging is dominant compared to toughness induced by microcracking, so that the bridging is
dominani: mechanism governing the fracture process of concrete. Fracture mechanics does work
for concrete provided that the fracture process zone is being considered, so that the development
of model for the fracture process zone is most important to describe fracture phenomena in
concrete.
In this paper the bridging zone, which is a part of extended rnacrocrack with stresses
transmitted by aggregates in concrete, is modelled by a Dugdale-Barenblatt type model with linear
tension-softening curve. Two finite element techniques are shown for the analysis of progressive
cracking in concrete based on the discrete crack approach: one with crack element, the
other without crack element. The advantage of the technique with crack element is that it dees
not need to update the mesh topology to follow the progressive cracking. Numerical results by
the techniques are demonstrated.

The artificial aggregates (AAs) were manufactured from the parent batch powders consisting of bottom ash containing excess unburned carbon and dredged soil, 7 : 3 weight ratio by direct sintering method and those physical properties were evaluated. Especially, the effects of waste glass or frit (NWG) which was made by addition of 5 wt% $Na_2O$ to the waste glass upon the bloating phenomenon of AAs were analyzed. The AAs manufactured from the parent batch powders showed a lower specific gravity than that of specimens containing waste glass or NWG due to excess u$Na_2O$nburned carbon which usually obstructs a sintering process. But, the waste glass added on parent batch powders promoted the sintering and densification thus increased the specific gravity of AAs. Also the specific gravity of AAs added with 5 wt% NWG, was lowered compared to that of AAs added with as-received waste glass. This is because of bloating of shell which captures gases owing to the lowered viscosity of liquid formed at the specimen surface caused by $Na_2O$ addition. In conclusion, the AAs sintered at above $1100^{\circ}C$ in this study showed characters of lightweight aggregate of specific gravity 1.15~1.34 and water absorption 11~19 %, and the bloating phenomenon of AAs was occurred at the shell rather black core part.
Corrosion of steel reinforcement is the most important mode of concrete structures damages. It strongly depends on the composition and physicochemical properties of the cementitious medium. The use of waste materials as lightweight aggregates in concrete is environmentally recommended in polluted environments such as marine and/or industrial atmospheres in order to reduce its porosity and ensure the requested protection of reinforcing steel. The present study investigated the effect of waste cork addition on corrosion resistance of steel rebar in mortar specimen prepared in the laboratory. The main objective of this study was to improve the corrosion resistance of reinforcing steel. Another objective of this study was to valorize this ecological product and preserve the environment. Results obtained from various electrochemical tests indicated that the presence of a fine cork powder substantially improved the corrosion resistance of steel in the mortar contaminated by chloride ions. This improvement was reflected by a notable decrease in corrosion current density and a shift of corrosion potential of the steel towards more noble values. Moreover, the presence of a fine cork powder in the mortar had no adverse effect on its mechanical properties.

The part of a building with the biggest energy loss is the exterior and many studies are actively conducted to reduce the energy loss on that part. However, most studies consider the window frames and insulation materials, but many studies do not discuss the concrete that takes more than 70% of the exterior. In order to minimize the energy loss of buildings, it is necessary to enhance the concrete's insulation performance and studies need to be conducted on this. Therefore, this study used a micro foam cell admixture, calcined diatomite powder, and lightweight aggregates as a part of a study to develop a type of concrete with improved insulation performance that has twice higher thermal conductivity compared to concrete. It particularly secured the porosity inside concrete to lower thermal conductivity. As a result of the experiment, the slump and air capacity showed fair results, but all mixtures containing micro foaming agent showed 14.3~35.1% lower mass per unit of volume compared to regular concrete. Compressive strength decreased slightly due to the materials used to improve the insulating performance, but it all satisfied this study's target strength(24MPa). Thermal conductivity was up to twice higher than that of regular concrete.
