The purpose of this study is to evaluate basic properties of artificial aggregate using concrete sludge according to mixing ratio. Cement, waste phosphogypsum and Powder of blast furnace slag are used with binder of artificial aggregate. Specific gravity, absorption are tested for basic property, and impacting, abrasion and crushing tests are done for characteristics of strength on the aggregate, including comparison with crushed stone. Bry specific gravity was ranged about 1.16 to 1.30 the test result of the aggregates and shape is round In the result of tests, it is concluded that qualities of the aggregates using concrete sludge are slightly lower than crushed stone but it is similiar with sintering artificial lightweight aggregate in high temperature.

The purpose of this study was to use daily waste incinerated ash, which was reclaimed worthlessly, as substitutes of fine aggregates in concrete. Various kinds of admixture was utilized to strengthen the cement mortar mixed with waste incinerated ash, and altered the curing condition to diminish the rate of expansion. By the results of this experiment, it was possible to produce the lightweight concrete, charactered with the gravity below 1.5 and over 160kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ compressive strength by replacing all fine aggregates with waste incinerated ash. It was also observed that the low temperature curing condition, lessoned gas exhausts, was effective to increase the strength of cement mortar.
Twenty-four beam specimens were tested to examine the effect of the maximum aggregate size on the shear behavior of lightweight concrete continuous beams. The maximum aggregate size varied from 4 mm to 19 mm and shear span-to-depth ratio was 2.5 and 0.6 in each all-lightweight, sand-lightweight and normal weight concrete groups. The ratio of the normalized shear capacity of lightweight concrete beams to that of the company normal weight concrete beams was also compared with the modification factor specified in ACI 318-05 for lightweight concrete. The microphotograph showed that some unsplitted aggregates were observed in the failure planes of lightweight concrete beams, which contributed to the enhancement of the shear capacity of lightweight concrete beams. As a result, the normalized shear capacity of lightweight concrete continuous beams increased with the increase of the maximum aggregate size, though the increasing rate was lower than that of normal weight concrete continuous beams. The modification factor specified in ACI 318-05 was generally unconservative in the continuous lightweight concrete beams, showing an increase of the unconservatism with the increase of the maximum aggregate size. In addition, the conservatism of the shear provisions of ACI 318-05 was lower in lightweight concrete beams than in normal weight concrete beams.

This study is as a part of the new disposal and recycling plans of heat-resource waste of Daegu dyeing industrial center we tried to examine applicable possibility of crushed thing(waste aggregate) as aggregates for mortar and concrete. To examine applicable possibility of waste aggregate as a lightweight-aggregate for concrete and mortar, we carried this study by mainly property examination of concrete according to replacement ratio of waste aggregate. We carried slump, unit weight, compressive strength and bending strength test according to replacement ratio of waste aggregate. As the result of that, if we use waste aggregate, lightweight of concrete and mortar will be possible. Specially it shows a strength improvement effect of cement hardening according to using this so it is judged that applicable possibility as aggregate for concrete and mortar is very excellent.

Light-Weight Concrete containing Expanded Poly-Styrene Beads (EPS-LWC) is an approved structural and non-structural material characterized by a considerably lower density and higher structural efficiency, compared to concrete containing ordinary aggregates. The experimental campaign carried out in this project provides new information on the mechanical properties of structural EPS-LWC, with reference to the strength and tension (by splitting and in bending), the modulus of elasticity, the stress-strain curve in unconfined compression, the absorbed energy under compression and reinforcement-concrete bond. The properties measured at seven ages since casting, from 3 days to 91 days, in order to investigate their in-time evolution. Mathematical relationships are formulated as well, between the previous properties and time, since casting. The dependence of the compressive strength on the other mechanical properties of EPS-LWC is also described through an empirical relationship, which is shown to fit satisfactorily the experimental results.

The purpose of this study is recycling of sewage sludge and fly-ash. In this experiment, green aggregates, which is a mixture of sewage sludge and clay and fly-ash, with different content of sewage sludge (up to $80wt\%$). Then they were burned in different soak temperatures from $1190^{\circ}C\;to\;1290^{\circ}C$ with changed soak time and heating rate at 5, 7, 10 minutes and $20^{\circ}C/min$, $30^{\circ}C/min$ respectively in order to produce lightweight aggregate (LWA). Data of both experiment series were generated to evaluate the quality of LWA as well as the relationship between burning condition and product's quality.

The artificial aggregate composing of coal bottom ash and waste catalyst slag (7 : 3, wt%) were fabricated using direct sintering method and, the bloating properties of aggregates were investigated as a function of raw material particle size and sintering temperature. Most of the artificial aggregates sintered at over $1150^{\circ}C$ showed the bloating phenomenon regardless of particle size of the raw materials. Consequently, the specific gravity of the aggregates was drastically decreased to below 1.4. The aggregates containing waste catalyst slag of $90{\mu}m$ under among the W-series specimens, however, did not show the noticeable bloating phenomenon. For the aggregates sintered at lower temperature as $1050{\sim}1150^{\circ}C$, the specific gravity increased with particle size of raw materials. Also, the water absorption of all aggregates decreased with the sintering temperature. The aggregates fabricated in this study met the lightweight aggregate standard showing the specific gravity 1.7~1.4 and water absorption 8~19 % and, therefore, can be applicable for the various fields.

Spatial distribution of void space in concrete materials strongly affects mechanical and physical behaviors. Therefore, the identification of characteristic void distribution helps understand material properties and is essential to estimate the integrity of material performance. The 3D micro CT (X-ray microtomography) is implemented to examine and to quantify the void distribution of a lightweight aggregate concrete using an image analysis technique and probabilistic approach in this study. The binarization and subsequent stacking of 2D cross-sectional images virtually create 3D images of targeting void space. Then, probability distribution functions such as two-point correlation and lineal-path functions are applied for void characterization. The lightweight aggregates embedded within the concrete are individually analyzed to construct the intra-void space. Results shows that the low-order probability functions and the density distribution based on the 3D micro CT images are applicable and useful methodology to characterize spatial distribution of void space and constituents in concrete.
This paper presents results of an experimental study conducted to investigate the effect of volume fraction of fibers on the mechanical properties of a fiber-reinforced, lightweight aggregate concrete(FRLAC) that was produced without an autoclave process. The FRLAC enhanced the strength of lightweight, cellular concrete by adding polypropylene fibers and lightweight aggregates. To investigate the effect of volume fraction of fibers on the mechanical behavior of FRLAC and to determine the optimal volume fraction of fibers, a series of compression and flexural strength tests on FRLAC specimens with various fiber volume fractions(0%, 0.10%, 0.25%, 0.50%) were conducted. It was observed from the tests that a 0.25% volume fraction of fibers maximized the increase in the strength of FRLAC and the fibers controlled cracking in FRLAC.
