  • In recent years, LED's have been adopted for and ever widening range of applications and numerous examples of the replacement of incandescent and fluorescent light sources due to the dramatic improvements in the efficiency of white LED's can be found. Automotive lighting devices, as with other lighting equipment, should exhibit low power consumption, long lifetime and provide new design opportunities. In this paper, an overview of trends of technology and standardization of LED headlamp were investigated and performed various experiments using LED headlamp.

Luminance Analysis of the Apartment Exterior Lighting using HDR Images (HDR이미지를 이용한 공동주택 외부조명의 휘도 분석)

  • The purpose of luminance measurement in lighting design of urban scale is to prevent light trespass and light pollution, caused by over-bright. Specially, the illumination of road, tunnel and sports complex as urban infrastructure is measured by international standard for illuminance and luminance. It has been used the spot luminance meter and the image photometer to define the characteristics of qualitative and quantitative in exterior lighting. This study introduced the concept of HDR Image, procedure of HDR Image creation and analysis. Applications of HDR Image, particularly within the apartment building exterior lighting design analysis, have been demonstrated. The procedure proposed in this study is a affordable method that is useful for the assessment of luminance distribution in the scene with electric light. It also provides a measurement capability with the high resolution luminance data within a large field of view efficiently and quickly, which is not possible to achieve with a luminance meter.

Ohmic contacts to p-type GaN for high brightness LED applications

  • GaN-related semiconductors are of great technological importance for the fabrication of optoelectronic devices, such as blue and ultra violet light emitting diodes (LEDs), laser diodes, and photo-detectors. One of the most important applications of GaN-based LEDs is solid-state lighting, which could replace incandescent bulbs and ultimately fluorescent lamps. For solid-state lighting applications, the achievement of high extraction efficiency in LED structures is essential. For flip-chip LEDs (FCLEDS), the formation of low resistance and high reflective p-GaN contact is crucial. So far, a wide variety of different methods have been employed to improve the ohmic properties of p-type contacts to GaN. For example, surface treatments using different chemical solutions have been successfully used to produce high-quality ohmic contacts, Metallization schemes, such as Ta/Ti contacts to p-GaN, were also investigated. For these contacts, the removal of hydrogen atoms from the Mg atoms doped n the GaN was argued to be responsible for low contact resistances.

  • LED lightings combined with IT technology can provide variable illumination environments that can be controlled by users according to their emotional need and preferences. This is one of the most beneficial functions compared with conventional lightings offering only fixed color and brightness. There is however lack of analysis data for creating practical lighting solutions satisfying user preferences in a wide range of applications from residential to commercial places. To materialize the technical advantages of user-controllable LED lightings, more observation data are required in various situations. Therefore, dissimilar emotional needs are determined in the present study for compartmental office spaces (staff lounge room, meeting room and desk job place) through subjective experiments by 45 observers. The optimum lighting conditions (CCT and illuminance) are finally obtained using Response Surface Method and relevant prediction functions are also deduced. The final outcome can be applied for making user-preferred office illumination products.

A Study of HDR Software Reliability for the Luminance Map Creation (휘도맵의 작성을 위한 HDRI 생성 도구의 신뢰도에 관한 연구)

  • Luminance is the most important quantity in lighting design and illuminating engineering. There are three methods for measuring luminance; using a conventional luminance meter, through the illuminance measurement and subsequent calculations and using digital imaging photometer. Recently, HDRI(High Dynamic Range Imaging) technique introduces a new method of capturing luminance values in a lighting environment. The radiance maps from HDRI are commonly used as visual environment maps for lighting analysis applications. For the HDRI, HDR software is needed to create HDR image. Currently, there is number of HDR software available. The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether a luminance map can be accurately captured by the various types of HDR software which include HDR Shop and Photoshop. To accomplish this goal a set of experiments was conducted. In order to assess the luminance values of the HDR image from HDR software, the values had to be compared to the ones obtained with conventional methods of luminance measurement.

  • We fabricated large-area OLED lighting device using screen printing. In order to operate full area of large-area OLED uniformly, each cell in OLED panel was designed to work separately. We connected OLED panel with a PCB electrically using jig pins so that each cell could be operated individually. In this presentation, we report a few important issues on the fabrication of large-area OLED for lighting applications.

  • Currently, Lighting systems have undergone improvements with its convergence with information technology. However, compared to the developments in Night-Scape lighting, designers are facing difficulties in having efficient access to information. Also, the cost and time it takes to undergo research for benchmarking previous cases is exceptionally high. Thus, this study will investigate the current trend of luminaire, and Night-Scape lighting in buildings, Street furniture, and signboards that has incorporated IT techniques from domestic and abroad. From these findings, the research aims to establish a database composition that categorizes luminaire and its different applications.

  • LED is expected as an environmentally friendly next generation light source with its good reliability and long lifetime. The light sources for illumination have a variety of applications in the indoor and outdoor, and the variation of optical power and color rendering of the light source limits their applications. Therefore, it is necessary to research the LED lamp and its luminaire to minimize the variation of dynamic characteristics and to improve the color rendering due to that illuminating environment. Daylight is very good light source to human and can be used as primary or a secondary light source with benefits of energy, productivity and health.This paper presents the design method of LED lighting system to improve poor property in terms of CR(color redering) characteristic to use daylight effectively.

  • In this paper, the new demand-side evaluation of the technical potential of lighting dimming control and its applications in electricity markets have been presented. Currently, advanced power information technologies(IT) has been developed and the variations of power information technologies have widely provided the new research and business opportunities. In particular, the dimming control for the lighting devices with time-varying prices and advanced controls has its economically significant values in electricity markets. Therefore, in this paper, the authors have explored the usefulness of lighting dimming control in load management fields as well as energy efficiency fields under the changing competitive electricity market environments.

  • Next-generation applications using technology IT fused to biological signals from the emotional state to extract a lot of research has been, and the sensitivity of the human sensory functions influences the physiological condition known to be the fact that. In this paper, Propose an Emotional-lighting control algorithm using bio-signals. LED lighting for Emotion light is environmentally friendly and has a high efficiency and long life. In particular, LED lights are different colors represent the possible single light sphere advantages. And, Human sensitivity for determining a more accurate biological signals using EEG was collected using EEG equipment sensitivity was determined to analyze the EEG.
