  • The auditory experiments based on subjective responses were undertaken for the standard heavy and light weight impact noise and rubber ball impact noise, jumping noise to investigate relations between floor Impact noise levels and subjective responses and to establish the upper/lower limits of floor impact noises. As a result, it was shown that relations between floor Impact noise levels and subjective responses was linear and the lower limit of heavy-weight impact noise was L/sub i, Fmax, AW/=46㏈ and the lower limit of light-weight impact noise was L'/sub n,AW/=56㏈. Finally the 3 subjective classes of floor impact noises were established.

  • The overall noise reduction was compared in regard to the vibrational characteristics of floor impact noise in a multi story residential building which has several noise reduction treatments. The vibration through its structural elements such as wall, floor and ceiling and sound emitting were investigated for each insulation treatment. It was found that, in case of heavy-weight impact noise, the vibration energy is emitted mostly from ceiling, but for the light-weight impact noise, most of the energy comes through ceiling and walls. That is, the vibration of a ceiling is the main factor that determines the frequency characteristics of the transmitting noise to lower floors.

  • Auditory experiments based on subjective responses were undertaken for the standard heavy and light weight impact noise. Relations between noise levels and subjective evaluations were also investigated. As a result, it was shown that the noise class was rated with the range of sensible satisfaction by investigating the various social responses for the floor impact noise. The rate classification for the heavy weight impact noise is suggested as a design guide for concrete slabs which satisfy the residents' requirements in various sound insulation capacities of multistory residential buildings.

  • Floor coverings and Mats are for children are economical and has excellent workability, as well as they can reduce floor impact noise effective. "When these floorings contact to impact source, they are deformed and change impact force characteristics that strikes floor structure. It is important to measure the impact force spectrum of floorings in order to evaluate reduction of floor impact noise for floorings. In experimental test of floor impact noise and impact force for 14 PVC vinyl floor coverings and 16 mats for children, we confirmed that the impact force spectrum directly related to the floor impact noise spectrum.

  • In order to synthesis of the materials and modulus for floor impact sound reduction, we investigated effect on dynamic elastic modulus of floor impact sound reduction materials and module made by inorganic porous materials, EVA chips and so on. We find correlation property between dynamic elastic modulus and light-weight impact noise. And we measured the dynamic elastic modulus of materials and module for floor impact sound reduction. And we predicted reduction efficiency on floor Impact Noise of those. The dynamic elastic modulus is reduced by increase of filler contents and filler species. When the materials for floor impact sound reduction is consisted of l5wt% EVA Chip and l5wt% inorganic porous materials, its dynamic elastic material is the lowest. And when the module is consisted of PE (upper side), PS embossing board(lower side) and the materials for floor impact sound reduction(middle), its dynamic elastic material is the lowest.

  • Whenever a noise problem of a product is concerned, a first step is to identify the energy transmission path whether it is an air-borne or a structure-borne. Depending on the characteristic of the noise path, tools on the noise reduction are different. In this paper. an important aspect of the “mass law” in a noise transmission has been investigated. Since an air-borne has 20 dB/Decade, and a structure-borne 10 dB/Decade of a sound transmission loss due to a mass, an engineer who aims to have a light product design should have an enough knowledge on the mass law, especially, the sensitivity of the weight itself. A honeycomb plate is examined as a sample of a light structure to implement a mass law.
