The growth of Phytolacca L. grown under three light regimes at three nutrient concentrations was analyzed. The effect of shading treatment on plnat growth was greater than that of nutrient treatment. Plant dry mass increased more than 5-fold during 21 days under 33% and 100% irradiances, whereas that was strongly reduced under 8% irradiance. Net assimilation rate decreased with plant growth irrespective of light and nutrient treatments, though the highest net assimilation rate was shown under 100% irradiance. Under 33% irradiance leaf area in plants supplied with nutrient solution increased to such extent as to compensate reduction in net assimilation rate, whic maintains almost identical growth rate with that under 100% irradiance. The relatonship between total plant nitrogen and leaf nitrogen content was dependent on the growth irradiance. Moreover, leaf nitrogen and specific leaf weight were also changed depending on the light and nutrient conditions. Based on these findings, it is suggested that the adaptive characteristics of Pokeberry plant to light and nutrient conditions may contribute to rapid extension of Pokeberry habital in Korea rocently.
Characteristics of spectral irradiance based on the distance from the light source, which combined metal halide lamp and high-luminance light-emitting diode (LED) light, were studied to investigate a suitable operating method for fishing lamps of the next generation. A 380-780 nm wavelength radiation was superior when using 1 W electrical power in the order of metal halide lamp, blue LED, white LED, and combined LED lights. The wavelengths at which the irradiance was at a maximum were fixed to 581 nm for the light source, which was combined for each ratio. If the irradiance characteristics at 300-1100 nm wavelengths were set as 100%, the irradiance rates at 400-599 nm were 100%, 72.7%, 88.9%, and 69.5% for the blue, white, combined LED lights, and metal halide lamp, respectively. This indicated that the color rendering of the LED lights was dependent on the metal halide lamp light source. When the horizontal profiles (450-550 nm wavelength) of irradiances were compared to a different type of light source in the ratio white LED: combined LED lights: blue LED: metal halide lamp, the irradiated area of more than $0.01\;{\mu}mol/s/m^2/nm$ was in the ratio 1.0 : 1.3 : 1.7 : 37.3, respectively. Based on the radiation characteristics and irradiance according to the distance from the light source, LED lights have an estimated economic efficiency if used before and after operation of a metal halide lamp.
The spectral irradiance and underwater transmission characteristics of a combined high-luminance light-emitting diode (LED) lights have been studied to evaluate suitable light sources for fishing lamps of the next generation. The wavelengths at which the irradiance was maximum were changed from 473, 501, 525, and 465 nm for blue, peacock blue, green, and white LED light to 475, 504 and 528 nm for [$F_{WB}$], [$F_{PB}$] and [$F_{GB}$] combined LED lights, respectively. If the irradiance characteristics at 400-700 nm wavelengths are set as 100%, the irradiance rates at 450-499 nm and 500-549 nm were decreased from 82.4% and 56% for blue, peacock blue LED light to 60.0%, 38.5% for [$F_{WB}$], [$F_{WP}$] combined LED lights. The underwater transmission characteristics of the combined LED lights were superior in the order [$F_{WB}$], [$F_{BP}$], [$F_{GB}$] in optical water type I; [$F_{WB}$], [$F_{PB}$], [$F_{GP}$] in optical water type II-III; and [$F_{GP}$], [$F_{WP}$], [$F_{PB}$] in optical water type 1. Setting the 10m depth underwater transmission characteristics of the combined LED lights in optical water type I at 100%, the transmission of water types II, III and 1 drops to 29.5%, 8.0% and 2.2%. Based on the distribution of spectral irradiance and underwater transmission characteristics calculated in optical water types II-III, where was the jigging ground for fishing lamps, the [$F_{WB}]$ and [$F_{GP}$] combined LED lights can be used as a suitable light sources for fishing lamps of the next generation.

Objectives: This study evaluated the relationship between the battery charge level and irradiance of light-emitting diode (LED) light-curing units (LCUs) and how these variables influence the Vickers hardness number (VHN) of a bulk-fill resin. Materials and Methods: Four LCUs were evaluated: Radii Plus (SDI), Radii-cal (SDI), Elipar Deep Cure (Filtek Bulk Fill, 3M Oral Care), and Poly Wireless (Kavo Kerr). Irradiance was measured using a radiometer every ten 20-second activations until the battery was discharged. Disks (4 mm thick) of a bulk-fill resin (Filtek Bulk Fill, 3M Oral Care) were prepared, and the VHN was determined on the top and bottom surfaces when light-cured with the LCUs with battery levels at 100%, 50% and 10%. Data were analyzed by 2-way analysis of variance, the Tukey's test, and Pearson correlations (α = 5%). Results: Elipar Deep Cure and Poly Wireless showed significant differences between the irradiance when the battery was fully charged versus discharged (10% battery level). Significant differences in irradiance were detected among all LCUs, within each battery condition tested. Hardness ratios below 80% were obtained for Radii-cal (10% battery level) and for Poly Wireless (50% and 10% battery levels). The battery level showed moderate and strong, but non-significant, positive correlations with the VHN and irradiance. Conclusions: Although the irradiance was different among LCUs, it decreased in half of the devices along with a reduction in battery level. In addition, the composite resin effectiveness of curing, measured by the hardness ratio, was reduced when the LCUs' battery was discharged.
The radiation characteristics and economic efficiency of high - luminance light - emitting diodes (LEDs), a metal halide lamp, and a halogen lamp were studied to evaluate their potential as an energy-saving light source for fishing lamps. The wavelengths at which irradiance was maximum were 709, 613, 473, 501, 525, 465, 578, and 973 nm for red, orange, blue, peacock blue, green, and white LEDs, the metal halide lamp, and the halogen lamp, respectively. If the irradiance characteristics at 300-1,100 nm wavelengths are set as 100%, the irradiance rates at 381-780 nm were 99-78%, 82%, and 24% for the LEDs, metal halide lamp, and halogen lamp, respectively. The economic efficiency was superior in the order metal halide lamp, halogen lamp, peacock blue LED, and blue LED at 381-780 nm and metal halide lamp, peacock blue LED, blue LED, and halogen lamp at 480-520 nm. Based on the radiation characteristics and economic efficiency evaluated at 480-520 nm, the blue and peacock blue LED light sources can be used as energy-saving light sources for fishing lamps.

The growth kinetics of phototrophic microorganisms can be controlled by the light irradiance, the concentration of an inorganic nutrient, or both. A multi-component kinetic model is proposed and tested in novel batch experiments that allow the kinetic parameters for each factor to be estimated independently. For the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC6803, the estimated parameters are maximum specific growth rate $({\mu}_{max})=2.8/d$, half-maximum-rate light irradiance $(K_L)=11W/m^2$, half-inhibition-rate light irradiance $(K_{L,I})=39W/m^2$, and half-maximum-rate concentration for inorganic carbon $(K_{S,Ci})=0.5mgC/L$, half-maximum-rate concentration for inorganic nitrogen $(K_{S,Ni})=1.4mgN/L$, and half-maximum-rate concentration for inorganic phosphorus $(K_{S,Pi})=0.06mgP/L$. Compared to other phototrophs having ${\mu}max$ estimates, PCC6803 is a fast-growing r-strategist relying on reaction rate. Its half-maximum-rate and half-inhibition rate values identify the ranges of light irradiance and nutrient concentrations that PCC6803 needs to achieve a high specific growth rate to be a sustainable bioenergy source. To gain the advantages of its high maximum specific growth rate, PCC6803 needs to have moderate light illumination ($7-62W/m^2$ for ${\mu}_{syn}{\geq}1/d$) and relatively high nutrient concentrations: $N_i{\geq}2.3 mgN/L$, $P_i{\geq}0.1mgP/L$, and $C_i{\geq}1.0mgC/L$.
The effects of light quality and irradiance on the growth of Cochlodinium polykrikoides were investigated in the laboratory. At 25°C and 30 psu the irradiance-growth curve was described as μ = 0.34 (I-9.76)/(I+12.5), (r=0.98). This suggests half-saturation photon flux density (PFD) (Ks) of 32.0 μmol photons m–2 s–1, and a compensation PFD (Ic) of 9.76 μmol photons m–2 s–1. Because the Ic equates to a depth of ca. 15.4 m, these responses suggest that irradiance at the depth around and below the thermocline in Yeosuhae Bay would provide favorable conditions for C. polykrikoides. Photoinhibition did not occur at 300 μmol photons m–2 s–1, which was the maximum irradiance used in this study. Blue (450 nm), yellow (590 nm) and red (650 nm) light had different effects on the growth of C. polykrikoides: it grew well under blue light, but not under yellow light. This implies that C. polykrikoides is more likely to cause an outbreak of red tide in the open sea where blue-green wavelengths predominate, rather than in enclosed water bodies where suspended particles absorb most of the blue wavelengths, and yellow-orange wavelengths predominate.

Anthropogenic disturbances, including coastal habitat modification and climate change are threatening the stability of kelp beds, one of the most diverse and productive marine ecosystems. To test the effect of temperature and irradiance on the microscopic gametophyte and juvenile sporophyte stages of the rare kelp, Saccharina angustissima, from Casco Bay, Maine, USA, we carried out two sets of experiments using a temperature gradient table. The first set of experiments combined temperatures between $7-18^{\circ}C$ with irradiance at 20, 40, and $80{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$. The second set combined temperatures of $3-13^{\circ}C$ with irradiance of 10, 100, and $200{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$. Over two separate 4-week trials, in 2014 and again in 2015, we monitored gametogenesis, the early growth stages of the gametophytes, and early sporophyte development of this kelp. Gametophytes grew best at temperatures of $8-13^{\circ}C$ at the lowest irradiance of $10-{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$. Light had a significant effect on both male and female gametophyte growth only at the higher temperatures. Temperatures of $8-15^{\circ}C$ and irradiance levels of $10-100{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$ were conditions for the highest sporophyte growth. Sporophyte and male gametophyte growth was reduced at both temperature extremes-the hottest and coldest temperatures tested. S. angustissima is a unique kelp species known only from a very narrow geographic region along the coast of Maine, USA. The coupling of global warming with high light intensity effects might pose stress on the early life-history stages of this kelp, although, as an intertidal species, it could also be better adapted to temperature and light extremes than its subtidal counterpart, Saccharina latissima.
This study is on the thermal flow analysis to select an optimal shape of solar lamp bank. Solar Lamp bank is designed by the lamp bank design program based on point light source theory. The reliability of the program for lamp bank design is verified through irradiance variation experiments of a kind of lamp according to horizontal distance. Solar lamp bank facilitates heat distribution and satisfies the irradiance in the three wave length which test guidelines require. Among the 4 kinds of lamp bank, since lamp bank type D satisfies uniformity ${\pm}10%$ and also doesn't exceed total irradiance 1,232 $W/m^2$, type D is finally selected.
