Three specimens, presumed to be natural hybrids between Rhodeus notatus and R. ocellatus, were collected from Onyangcheon Stream area, Jwabu-dong, Asan-si, Chungcheongnamdo, the Republic of Korea, and morphological and phylogenetic analyses were performed to clearly identify their parent species. The body color of the three natural hybrids was light greenish-brown on dorsal side, and the size of red area on the upper front of the dorsal fin and the outer margin of the anal fin generally showed intermediate characters between the parent species, R. notatus and R. ocellatus. Among the measurement and meristic characters, the ratio of prepectoral length and preanal length in the standard length, and the ratio of snout length, interorbital width, length of caudal peduncle and depth of caudal peduncle in the head length, and the number of longitudinal row scales were analyzed as the unique characters of natural hybrids. In the rag1 gene of nuclear DNA, the three natural hybrids were analyzed to be reflected all the single nucleotide polymorphism sites between R. notatus and R. ocellatus, and in the phylogenetic tree using the cytb gene of mitochondrial DNA, they formed the same genetic clade as R. notatus. Therefore, three specimens, presumed to be natural hybrids analyzed in this study were identified as interspecific hybrids between female R. notatus and male R. ocellatus.
In recent years, an increasing amount of research has been conducted on the yield loss of soybean crop caused by Riptortus clavatus, a serious pest of legumes. The objective of this study were to examine crop damage caused by various population densities of R. clavatus and determine the association of unique growth and seed characteristics with crop damage rate in conventional soybean fields. Major growth responses to R. clavatus were examined. The cultivars that were not as seriously damaged by R. clavatus were Pungsannamulkong, Sobaegknamulkong, Duyoukong, and Sinpaldal 2, but Myeongjunamulkong, Mallikong, and Hwangkeumkong were significantly (P<0.05) damaged. The rate of seed damage caused by R. clavatus was 8.2% in a group of brown colored pubescence, while the rate was 13.0% in a group of the gray colored. Crop damage by R. clavatus clearly more reduced in cultivars with dark hilum colors including dark brown, brown, and grayish brown than those with yellow hilum colors. Concerning pod colors, crop damage was less significant in cultivars with dark brown pod color than with the light brown. Cultivars with short pod length (4.0-4.5 cm) at full seed (R6) stage showed lower seed damage rates by R. clavatus than those with long pod length (>5.6 cm). Therefore, characteristics of hilum, pod, pubescence colors, and pod length were significantly related and linked to the cultivar resistance to R. clavatus.

Phalaenopsis (Phal.) "Yellow Dream" was developed by the National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science (NIHHS), Rural Development Administration (RDA) in 2005. This hybrid came from the progenies of a cross between Phal. "3031" which has yellow colored petals and small plant size, and Phal. "Golden Emperor" which has yellow colored petals with red spots and small plant size in 1995. "Yellow Dream" was finally selected in 2005 after the investigation of the growth and flower characteristics from 2000 to 2004. "Yellow Dream" had a yellow (Y4D) base color and light orange stripe petals (ORN34A) with a red lip (R42D). The average leaf length and flower width of "Yellow Dream" were 21cm and 6.8cm, respectively. It has a half erect leaf form and is a fast growing cultivar. This hybrid is relatively easy to make clones.
The objective of this paper is to propose a classification of Korean taste terms, especially Korean taste adjectives, from the perspective of cognitive science. The classification of Korean taste terms is here grounded in the definition of 'taste sense', 'flavor' and 'taste' which is usually employed in disciplines of cognitive science. There have been a large number of domestic researches in field of taste terms. Accordingly, a lot of research findings on the classification of taste terms have steadily been released showing the differences among researchers. These different classifications are largely based on the fact that researchers have applied their subjective criteria rather than their objective in order to categorize taste terms. According to previous studies, it is well-known that, in everyday usage, the term 'taste' covers a much wider range of qualities than those perceived through the taste receptor cells alone. In addition, we take it for granted that as much as 80~90% of taste comes from olfactory modality. It is also important to note that the texture and temperature of food, the color of food, the sounds of food, and atmospheric cues have an essential effect on taste perception. Many scientists have already pointed out that taste evaluations are influenced by a number of individual and sociocultural factors. Eating and tasting are important parts of our everyday life, so that linguistic approaches to taste perception seem to be of great significance. We can assume that a classification of taste terms from the perspective of cognitive sciences may shed light on the perceptive mechanism through which we perceive taste. It should be noted that this paper is an advanced work prepared for the follow-up study which will try to make a geometric model of word field 'taste terms' existing or probably existing in the mental lexicon of human beings.

The toxic dinoflagellate Gymnodinium catenatum isolated from the southern coast of Korea was described under light and scanning electron microscopy, and its large subunit (LSU) rDNA was sequenced. In addition, the effects of temperature and salinity on its growth were investigated. The cells of G. catenatum, as viewed under the electronic microscope, were green-brown color, $38.1-77.4{\mu}m$ in length and $26.1-40.8{\mu}m$ in width. The epicone was conical, while the hypocone was trapezoidal. The nucleus was located at the central part of the cell. The apical groove was horseshoe-shaped and small pores were irregularly distributed on the cell surface. Molecular phylogeny based on LSU rDNA gene sequences showed that the Korean G. catenatum and previously reported species formed a monophyletic clade within Gymnodinium sensu stricto clade. The maximum growth rate of $0.37day^{-1}$, was obtained at $25^{\circ}C$ and 35 psu, and the maximum cell density of $1,073cells\;mL^{-1}$, was observed at $20^{\circ}C$ and 25 psu. However, G. catenatum did not grow at temperature < $15^{\circ}C$ and < $30^{\circ}C$. These results suggest that environmental conditions of summer and autumn in the southern coast of Korea may be favorable for the growth of G. catenatum.
It is called the "Painted lead glaze pottery" that is painted green, brown, yellow over white or light yellow glazed base among glazed pottery in the Northern Qi Dynasty. Even though the white glazed pot painted green with three ears and the yellow glazed jar painted green with long neck is found in the Fan-cui Tomb in Honghetun Village, Anyang City, Henan Province in 1971, these potteries were not focused in academic circles. While the white glazed pottery found with them was thought as the earliest evidence of the white porcelain that the date is clear, it has constantly been discussed so far. In this paper, focused on the painted lead glaze pottery, the materials from tombs and kiln sites are organized, and based on them, the decoration feature and production technique is analyzed. The emergence time of this pottery is checked by the date of tombs and the social value of this pottery is considered by the position of the buried person. The painted lead glaze pottery of the Northern Qi Dynasty has independent character such as porcelain clay, twice firing burning and painting technique over glazed base. This character emerged from several glazed potteries in the Northern Wei Dynasty and it continued to the Northern Qi Dynasty. At last, the white painted lead glazed pottery appeared. The painted lead glaze pottery was formed by the combination of a shape of the ceramic in Southern China and painting technique after the Northern Wei Dynasty in Northern China.
The plain coarse pottery from the Unjeonri Bronze Age relic sites in the Cheonan, Korea were studied on the basis of clay mineralogy, geochemistry and archaegeological interpretations. For the research, the potteries are utilized at the analysis for 6 pieces of plain coarse potteries. Color of the these potteries are mainly light brown, partly shows the yellowish brown to reddish brown. The interior, surface and inside of the pottery appear as different colors in any cases. Original source materials making the Unjeonri potteries are used of mainly sandy clay soil with extreme coarse grained irregularly quartz and feldspar. The magnetic susceptibility of the Unjeonri pottery range from 0.20 to 1.20. And the Unjeonri soil's magnetic susceptibility agree almost with 0.20 to 1.30. In the same magnetization of soil and pottery, the results revealed that the Unjeonri soil and low material of pottery are same produced by identical source materials. The Unjeonri potteries and soil are very similar patterns with all characteristics of soil mineralogy, geochemical evolution trend. The result seems to be same relationships between the behavior and enrichment patterns on the basis of a compatible and a incompatible elements. Consequently, the Unjeonri potteries suggest that made the soil to be distributed in the circumstance of the relic sites as the raw material are high in a greater part. In the Unjeonri soil, the kaolinite is common occurred minerals. However, in the Unjeonri pottery, the kaolinite was not detected in all broken pieces. The kaolinite was presumed to destroy crystal structure during the firing processes of over $550^{\circ}C$. The quartz is phase transition from ${\alpha}$-quartz to ${\beta}$-quartz at $573^{\circ}C$, but the Unjeonri pottery did not investigated any phase transition evidences of quartz. The chorite was detected within the mostly potteries and soils. As the results, the Unjeonri potteries can be interpreted by not experiencing a firing temperature over $800^{\circ}C$. The colloidal and cementing materials between the quartz and low materials during the heating did not exist in the internal part of the potteries. An any secondary compounds by heating does not appear within the crack to happen during the dry of the pottery. The hyphae group are kept as it is with the root tissue of an organic matters to live in the swampy land. In the syntheses of all results, the general firing condition to bake and make the Unjeonri pottery is presumed from $550^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$. However, the firing condition making the Unjeonri pottery can be different firing temperature partially in one pottery. Even, the some part of the pottery does not take a direct influence on the fire.

The red pigment extracted from Serratia marcescens 2354 (ATCC 25419) was prodigiosin (PG), which was dissolved in methanol and measured for ultraviolet and visible light absorption spectra. It was the typical absorption spectrum of PG in an acid solution with ${\lambda}_{max}=537nm$. When the concentration of PG was increased from $1.0{\times}10-5M$ to $9.0{\times}10-5M$ in the methanol solution, the absorption intensity at 537 nm was increased, the absorption intensity at 467 nm was decreased, and the isosbestic point at 500 nm was observed. This phenomenon can be regarded as a result of reversible acid-base equilibrium reaction considering 537 nm and 467 nm of PG absorption band in acid and base solution respectively and isosbestic point of 500 nm. On the other hand, when the concentration of PG was reduced from $6.0{\times}10-4$ to $1.0{\times}10-4M$ in acetic acid buffer solution at pH 4.75, a new absorption band with ${\lambda}$ max at 500 nm appeared. This absorption band appears only in the aqueous solution of pH 4.75 and does not appear in the pure methanol solution of the same pH. This is due to the conversion of the PG molecule from the ${\alpha}$-isomer to the ${\beta}$-isomer by $H_2O$. In other words, it was confirmed that the color change of the PG can be caused by the concentration of the solution and the characteristics of the solvent.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of heat-treatment and particle size on the crystalline properties of the wood cellulose. The color of wood flours was changed from light yellow in control sample to dark yellow or deep brown by heat treatment at $100^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$. Relative crystallinity of the heat treated wood cellulose decreased with decreasing particle size from wood chips to 200 mesh, and there was little change in the crystal width. As the temperature was increased, relative crystallinity of the wood increased and crystal width was not changed. As a result of the FT-IR analysis, it was confirmed that the peaks were gradually decreased at -OH elongation as the heat-treated temperature was increased. The lignin C-H bending of $1425cm^{-1}$ and the hemicellulose C-H bending of $1370cm^{-1}$ did not change with the increase of the heat treatment temperature. In addition, it was revealed that C-C stretching of carbohydrate near $1031cm^{-1}$ decreased with increasing heat treatment temperature. Consequently, it is suggested that particle size and heat treatment affected the crystalline properties of wood cellulose.

For the preservation and efficient content sharing of 5 volumes (2,866 pages) of Yu Kil-Chun's book published in 1971, which provides an important collection of data for the study of modern Korean history during the late 19th century (enlightenment period of Joseon dynasty). The books were purchased and its preservation status investigated and documented electronically by scanning for permanent preservation of content and to determine the condition of preservation at the time of documentation. The degree of deterioration and damage, such as discoloration, hardening, breakage, and damage in these 50 years old modern printed books was quantified through image analysis and made attempts to visualize the damaged areas. It was observed that the degree of deterioration and damage depended on the material and the surface condition of the paper used, the degree of exposure to light, and the storage environment. The comparison of the preservation status at the time of the photographing (or scanning) and judgment as to whether or not the image under investigation was artificially modified was accomplished by comparing the electronically documented images of Seoyugyeonmun (西遊見聞) in Volume 1 of Yu Kil-Chun's works with images provided on other websites. Practical problems encountered while considering the effective preservation of electronically documented data and publicly sharing it, in the course of this study, with other academic researchers around the world were also summarized.
