Differences in Design Considerations between InGaN and Conventional High-Brightness Light-Emitting Diodes

  • Based on the escape cone concepts, high-brightness light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been analyzed. In AlGaAs or InGaAlP LEDs, photon absorption in the ohmic region under the electrode is known to be significant. Thus, ins general, a thick window layer (WL) and a transparent substrate (TS) would minimize photon shielding by the electrodes and considerably improve photon output coupling efficiency. However, the schemes do not seem to be necessary in InGaN system. Photon absorption in ohmic contact to a wide bandgap semiconductor such as GaN may be negligible and, as a result, the significant photon shielding by the electrodes will not degrade the photon output coupling efficiency so much. The photon output coupling efficiency estimated in InGaN LEDs is about 2.5 - 2.8 times that of the conventional high-brightness LED structures based on both WL and TS schemes. As a result, the extenal quantum efficiency in InGaN LEDs is as high as 9% despite the presumably very low internal quantum efficiency.

The physicochemical properties of rice extrudate by addition of emulsifier(Glycerin fatty acid ester)

  • This study was designedto investigate changes in phsicochemical properties of rice extrudate with added glycerin fatty acid ester extruded by single screw extruder. According to emulsifier content, expansion ratio and water solubility index were represented minimum in rice extrudate with added 2.0% and 2.5% glycerin fatty acid ester. Extrudate with added 1.5% emulsifier revealed lowest break strength and bulk density, so got a tender and light texture. Meanwhile water absorption index was showed maximum at 1.5% emulsifier content. As emulsifier content increased, lightness raised. By the microstructure obsorved with image analyzer, addition of emulsifier had decreased area and fractarea of air cells of cross section of extrudates. On the results of this research, quality of extrudate with added 1.5% glycerin fatty acid ester was considered very well than 100% rice extrudate, because of tender and light texture, highest water absorption indexand fine structure with higher lightness.

  • Maxwell displacement current(MDC) was generated when the area per molecule was about 140${\AA}$$^2$and 100${\AA}$$^2$. MDC were investigated in connection with monolayer compression cycles. It was found that the maximum of MDC appeared at the molecular area just before the initial rise of surface pressure in compression cycles. The absorption spectra of polyamic acid containing p-methoxyazobenzene in a mixture of N,N-dimethylacetamide(DMAc) and benzene(1:1 by volume) solution was induced photoisomerization by UV and visible light irradiation. The precursor LB film was heated in a vacuum dry oven at 120$^{\circ}C$ in order to convert it into the LB film of polyimide. The absorption spectra of LB films were also induced photoisomerization by UV and visible light irradiation.

  • Remotely sensed data can be used to estimate biomass production using methodologies relating vegetation indices to light absorption or to leaf photosynthetic capacity. The considerations of both light absorption and photosynthetic capacity in remote sensing-based modeling to estimate biomass production or NPP was introduced based upon Monteith model NPP is one of a evaluation of land degradation. NPP was estimated from annual maximum NDVI by MODIS data. It was known that NPP of the grassland that except the forest and the farming ground was distributed between 50-200g /m2.

특성행렬을 이용한 비선형 집적거울 Etalon의 해석 (Analysis of a Nonlinear Integrated-Mirror Etalon by the Characteristic Matrix Method)

  • 본 논문에서는 특성행렬을 사용하여 비선형 집적거울 etalon의 입출력 특성을 해석하는 방법을 제시한다. 빛의 세기에 따른 매질의 굴절률 및 흡수율의 변화 특성을 알면, 관계식과 특성행렬식을 결합하여 집적거울 etalon의 비선형 특성을 해석할 수 있다. 이 방법은 파장에 따른 각 거울의 반사율(크기와 위상)을 일일이 구하지 않고, etalon의 구조가 주어지면 바로 임의의 파장에서의 etalon의 입출력 특성을 해석할 수 있다. 또한, 특성행렬식을 이용하여 비선형 집적거울 etalon에서의 쌍안정성을 보였다.

p-Methoxyazobenzene을 함유한 Polyamic acid의 Langmuir-Blodgett막 물성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Properties of Langmuir-Blodgett Films of Polyamic Acid containing p-Methoxyazobenzene)

  • The absorption spectra of polyamic acid containing p-methoxyazobenzene in a mixture of N, N-dimethylacetamide(DMAC) and benzene(1:1 by volume) solution was induced photoisomerization by UV and visible light irradiation. This solution is influenced on temperature according to measure by UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. Ultra thin film of polyamic acid containing p-methoxyazobenzene was prepared on the hydrophilic quartz plate by Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method. The precursor LB film was heated in a vacuum dry oven at $120^{\circ}C$ in order to convert it into the LB film of polyimide. The absorption spectra of LB films were also induced photoisomerization by UV and visible light irradiation.

  • Photoadaptation of Chlorobium (Cb.) phaeobacteroides was investigated under dim and strong light intensity. Absorption spectra of these whole cellIs were different each other. The Soret band intensity and the Qy bandwidth of BChl e in c디l grown under dim light intensity were smaller and more broadened than those under strong light intensity. From HPLC analysis of the pigments, total carotenoid (Car) / bacterochorolphyll (BChl) e ratio of cell increased wi1h increase of light intensities. But camposition of BChl e hamologs almost unchanged. Cb. phaeobacteroides contains 11 kinds of Car including isorenieratene and beta-isorenieratene as major Car. The campositions of Car were different for cells grown under dim and strong light intensities. In conclusion, Cb. phaeobacteroides changes total amount and canposition of Car to adapt various light intensities, while homolog canposition of BChle unchange.

Optical Modeling for Polarization-dependent Optical Power Dissipation of Thin-film Organic Solar Cells at Oblique Incidence

  • We present the optical models and calculation results of thin-film organic solar cells (OSCs) at oblique incidence of light, using the transfer matrix method. The simple expression for the optical power dissipation is derived at oblique incidence for s- and p-polarized light. The spatial distribution of the electric field intensity, the optical power density, and the optical power dissipation are calculated in both s- and p-polarized light with respect to the incidence angle. We identify how the light absorption efficiency for p-polarized light becomes relatively larger than that for s-polarized light as the incidence angle increases.

Transparent Conducting Zinc-Tin-Oxide Layer for Application to Blue Light Emitting-diode

  • To use the GaN based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as solid state lighting sources, the improvement of light extraction and internal quantum efficiency is essential factors for high brightness LEDs. In this study, we suggested the new materials system of a zinc tin oxide (ZTO) layer formed on blue LED epi-structures to improve the light extraction. ZTO is a representative n-type oxide material consisted of ZnO and SnO system. Moreover, ZTO is one of the promising oxide semiconductor material. Even though ZTO has higher chemical stability than IGZO owing to its SnO2 content this has high mobility and high reliability. After formation of ZTO layer on p-GaN layer by using the spin coating method, structural and optical properties are investigated. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement results show the successful formation of ZTO. The photoluminescence (PL) and absorption spectrum shows that it has 3.6-4.1eV band gap. Finally, the light extraction properties of ZTO/LED chip using electroluminescence (EL) measurement were investigated. The experimental and theoretical analyses were simultaneously conducted.

축 하중을 받는 Al/CFRP 혼성튜브의 압궤모드와 에너지흡수 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Collapse Modes and Energy Absorption Characteristics of AI/CFRP Compound Tubes Under Axial Compression)

  • The compressive axial collapse tests were performed to investigate collapse modes and energy absorption characteristics of Al/CFRP compound tubes which are aluminum tubes wrapped with CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) outside the aluminum circular and square tubes. Based on collapse characteristics of aluminum tubes and CFRP tubes respectively, the axial collapse tests were performed for Al/CFRP compound tubes which have different CFRP orientation angles. Test results showed that Al/CFRP compound tubes supplemented the unstable brittle failure of CFRP tubes due to ductile nature of inner aluminum tubes. In the light-weight aspect, specific energy absorption were the highest for Al/CFRP, CFRP in the middle, and aluminum the lowest. Also, specific energy absorption of circular tubes was higher than square tubes'. It turned out that CFRP orientation angle of Al/CFRP compound tubes influence specific energy absorption together with the collapse modes of the tubes.
