  • This study aims to examine how children's life satisfaction is interrelated with parents' life satisfaction longitudinally. Autoregressive cross-lagged model was employed to analyze the interrelationship between children's and parents' life satisfaction. This study used 6 waves (Elementary school 4th year to Middle school 3rd year) from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Study (KCYPS). The sample size was 1,963 families with child and parent. Key findings are as follows: First, children's and parents' life satisfaction, respectively, was found to influence each other during the study period. Second, parents' life satisfaction were found to have positive and significant cross-lagged impacts on children's life satisfaction. Third, similarly, children's life satisfaction was positively related to parents' life satisfaction longitudinally. The findings suggest that children's and parents' life satisfaction are interrelated in an autoregressive cross-lagged model. This study concludes with implications for enhancing children's and parents' life satisfaction.

  • This study was designed to determine the relative importance of specific family environmental variables and positive self-concept of psychological variables in explaining family life satisfaction. Data were collected from 423 housewives in Daegu City. Multivariate regression and factor analysis and path analysis were used to analyze the data. The results of this study partially supported the hypothesis that positive self-concept of psychological factors would be more closely associated with family life satisfaction than would family environmental factors. The findings were as follows: 1. Urban housewives' positive self-concept and family life satisfaction were relatively high. 2. Among family environment variables, health, wives' education level, husband's satisfaction with job significantly influence on positive self-concept. 3. • This study was conducted to determine the elements that are required and that need improvement in the contents of dietary life education and the educational environment by analyzing the importance-satisfaction of a dietary life education program for dietary life education trainees. The results of the rank test for the satisfactory elements of dietary life education were in the order of competence of instructors, educational contents, time of education, educational environment and affordability of tuition. The importance-satisfaction analysis of the contents and construction of the dietary life education program showed that "suitable contents for the theme of the class", "contents and construction of practice class", "diversity of practice menu" and "diversity of educational contents" had high importance and satisfaction scores and therefore, could be maintained at their current levels. Meanwhile, "adequacy of class time" and "contents and construction of theory class" showed low importance and satisfaction scores, requiring a little effort. Whereas, "time and construction of group practice", "structure of textbook for class" and "duration of course and number of classes" showed relatively low satisfaction compared to importance, requiring major efforts for improvement. Similarly, analysis of the lecture element from dietary life education showed that "professional lecture by instructors", "lectures suitable for themes" and "lecture applicable in real life" had relatively low satisfaction compared to importance, requiring major efforts for improvement. In addition, analysis of the educational environment from dietary life education showed that "adequacy of lecture room space", "cooking equipment", "diversity of cooking utensils" and "sanitary condition of cooking utensils" also require major efforts for improvement. Therefore, dietary life education should not be executed with a simple delivery of knowledge but with both theory and practice classes to increase its application in real life, and active and specific efforts are required to nurture professional instructors and establish educational strategies.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted in order to the relationship between life satisfaction, health behaviors, and successful aging and factors associated with successful aging. Methods: Participants in this study included 159 elders living in one city. Data on life satisfaction (Choi's Life Satisfaction Scale for Korean elderly, 1984), health behaviors (Choi & Kim's Health Behaviors Scale for Korean elderly, 1997), and successful aging (Kim & Shin's Successful Aging Scale for Korean elderly, 2005) were collected by trained interviewers. For analysis of collected data, the PASW 18.0 program was used, which included descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and Multiple regression. Results: Results showed a positive correlation between life satisfaction, health behaviors, and successful aging. Life satisfaction, self-perceived health status, and health behavior explained 60.8% of successful aging. Conclusion: There is a need to help improve health behavior and self-perceived health status of elders. We should also understand life satisfaction over their life span and establish a program that encourages healthy behavior in the community. Accordingly, these efforts will allow for achievement of a more successful aging process for the elderly.

Data were drawn from 2 waves of Korean Retirement and Income Study (KReIS). The analytic sample included 158 retired men and 145 retired women in the second wave and all of whom had worked at the first wave. Financial support from adult children living elsewhere also significantly affected retiree's life satisfaction. The interaction effect of gender was only found in effects of living arrangement (living alone/with a spouse vs. multiple generations living together) on retirees' life satisfaction.
