Purpose: The purpose of this study was to seek ways to improve the quality of life of workers by separating workers into the low fatigue group and the severe fatigue group depending on the level of fatigue level, and analyzing and understanding the difference between quality of life and job stress according to the fatigue level. Methods: For the 'Development of Mibyeong management system which was a consumer-directed health care service', the data of job stress, fatigue and quality of life was collected from 115 workers who visited the oriental hospitals located in J city and C city from Jul, 2012 to Dec, 2012. Results: The severe fatigue group showed significantly higher job stress than the low fatigue group in physical environment (p=.004), job demand (p<.001), interpersonal conflict (p=.012), lack of reward (p=.062). The severe fatigue group showed lower degrees both in physical component summary (PCS) (p<.001) and mental component summary (MCS) (p<.001) measured by SF-12 and the quality of life (p<.001) measured by EQ5D than the lower fatigue group. A relatively strong negative correlation was found in the item of mental component summary (MCS) measured by SF-12. Conclusion: Considering our results that high fatigue level show negative impact on quality of life and job stress, we suggest to provide a variety of health promotion strategies to improve the quality of life through the prevention and relief of fatigue for workers.
This study was conducted to verify the effects of individual psychological capital, spousal support, and organization's family-friendly work culture on work-life balance in social workers. For this purpose, married social workers working in social welfare facilities in Chungcheongbuk-do were surveyed, and 331 collected responses were used in the analysis. Multiple regression analysis revealed that resilience and optimism in individual psychological capital, spousal support, and expectations on working hours in organizations' family-friendly work culture were significantly associated with the work-life balance. In addition, there were different factors influencing the level of work-life balance according to gender and age. The findings suggest that efforts to enhance awareness and improve working conditions, such as the development of self-care program, education on the necessity of work-life balance, and implementation of work-life balancing system, are needed to improve the work-life balance of social workers.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the influential factors for the oral-health practice of adult workers and the relationship of their health-promotion life style to the factors of oral-health practice in an attempt to determine the impact of health-promotion life style. Methods : The subjects in this study were 160 workers who worked in Seoul, North-Jeolla and South-Jeolla Province, and were at the age of 20 and up. The survey was conducted from February 1 to July 20, 2011. Results : As for the relationship of the general characteristics of the workers to the factors of their health-promotion practice, gender made statistically significant differences to toothbrushing female (3.24), and there were statistically significant differences in education/concern according to more than college(2.72) scored higher academic credential(p<0.05). The group of the workers whose health-promotion life style was better in terms of all the toothbrushing(3.35), use of oral hygiene supplies(2.19), regular dental-clinic visit(2.70), dietary control(2.84) and education/concern(3.20) scored higher, and there were statistically significant differences in the factors of education/concern(p<0.05). Their health-promotion life style had an impact on regular dental-clinic visit among the factors of oral-health practice(p<0.05), and there was a positive correlation between health-promotion life style and tooth brushing, dietary control(p<0.05), regular dental-clinic visit, education and concern(p<0.01) the factors of oral-health practice. Conclusions : Workers should be stimulated to get into sound life habits to change their behavior, and they should be urged to improve their preventive health care, to get a dental checkup and ultimately to promote their health as well. Companies should take measures to accelerate the oral health promotion of workers and provide more dental checkup programs for them to be more concerned about their oral health, to promote their oral health and to maintain the best oral health.

The purpose of the study was to explore job stress, coping strategies and life satisfaction, and to identify related factors in long-term care workers. A cross-sectional study was used to study 111 long-term care workers in Gyeonggi-do. Questionnaires were given to the workers, and data were collected between 1 February and 30 March 2015. The data were analyzed using a stress scale, and a life-satisfaction index. The major findings were: 1) The type of facility was a significant factor in life satisfaction of long-term care workers (F=4.11, p=.020). 2) A statistically significant relationship existed between job stress(r=-.46, p<.001), coping strategies(r=.21, p=.040) and life satisfaction. 3) The results of the regression analyses showed that job stress, coping strategies, and type of facility were statistically significant in predicting the life satisfaction level of long-term care workers. The result of this study provides a better understanding of job stress, coping strategies, and life satisfaction in long-term care workers.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors associated with the mental health-related quality of life (MHQoL) of Korean workers. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 192 Korean pay workers who worked in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk Province, Korea. Data were collected from May 15 to July 2, 2019, through selfreported questionnaires. The survey had a total of 87 questions including individual, organizational, and psychosocial factors. MHQoL was measured using short form-36 version 1. Data were divided into four domains of MHQoL and analyzed using a hierarchical linear regression model. Results: From the hierarchical linear regression analysis, when the psychosocial factors were included in the regression model, the R2 change in the four domains of MHQoL increased significantly by 19~47%. A common predicting factor associated with the four domains of MHQoL was identified as perceived stress symptoms. Other factors affecting MHQoL showed slight differences in each domain. Conclusion: Based on the study results, it is necessary to monitor the psychosocial symptoms to improve MHQoL of Korean workers. Considering each factor affecting the four areas of MHQoL, workplace-based interventions to improve MHQoL should be provided to workers.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate Korean blue-collar workers' Health-related Quality of Life (HRQoL) and influencing factors in Korean blue-collar workers. Methods: Participants in this study were 109 Korean blue-collar workers. The survey included health-related, work-related, and psycho-social factors. SF-36 was used to measure HRQoL. The data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results: In the hierarchical linear regression model, when subjects' psycho-social variables were included in the regression model, $R^2$ change was statistically significant. The significant predictors for HRQoL were education level (${\beta}=.26$, p=.023), depression (${\beta}=-.38$, p<.001), and self-efficacy (${\beta}=.23$, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that health care providers must have priority to consider psycho-social variables, especially depression and self-efficacy to improve HRQoL in Korean blue-collar workers.
The main purpose of this study is to describe the different life chances among various occupational groups in Chonbuk Province which has been excluded in the process of Korea's industrialization since the 1960s. More specifically, this study analyzed to what extent 6 occupational groups have the different life chances in the sub-levels such as health conditions and leisure life. According to our data analysis, it is found that the 6 occupational groups have the different life chances. That is, while those who are engaged in the higher prestigious occupation have a good life chance, those who in the lower prestigious occupation have a worse life chance. For example, among 6 occupational groups, professional-managerial who secure the higher autonomy and stability in their work have the highest life chance in the labor and health, and leisure life. Next, professional-technical, white-collar, sales-service occupants have the higher life chance after the professional-managerial. However, these 3 occupation groups are partially inconsistent in the two sectors of the life chance. Specifically, the professional-technical, despite their autonomy and stability in the work world, conceived that their work conditions are worse as well as badly influencing on their own health. On the other band, the sales-service workers group, despite their lower social status, is relatively autonomous and stable in their work environment and thus has the higher life chances. Finally, agricultural and productive workers have relatively the lower lift chances. Nevertheless, there are some clear differences among these 2 occupational groups. That is, the farmers have relatively the higher life chances in the sectors of socio-economic characteristics, and labor and health rather than productive workers. As a result, the productive workers are generally located in the lowest level of life chance. This fact is particularly attributed to the fragility of manufacturing industries in Chonbuk Province.
Purpose: This study examined the work-related musculoskeletal pain and quality of life of hospital workers. Methods: Self-reported questionnaires were sent to 350 hospital workers at Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, of which 341 were returned. The questionnaire had four items that covered the demographic information, areas of musculoskeletal problems, pain rating scale, and quality of life. The analysis was completed using descriptive statistic, and the differences between pain and demographic variables were identified using a chi-square test. The differences between the type of occupation and quality of life were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and a Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: The 12-month prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal pain was 86.1% of physical therapists, 86.5% of occupational therapists, 77.1% of dental hygienists, and 75.8% of nurses. A significant difference in the general and work related variables was observed between the subject with a physical burden and type of occupation. The most affected pain sites of the physical therapist included low back, hand and wrist, shoulder, and neck. The occupational therapists included the hand and wrist, shoulder, neck, but the nurses and dental hygienists reported the shoulder, back, hand and wrist. A significant difference in the quality of life was noted between the subjects in physical therapists and dental hygienists and the subjects in the nurses and occupational therapists (p=0.00). Conclusion: These findings show that hospital workers appear to be high risk for work-related musculoskeletal pain, and the quality of life of physical therapists and nurses was higher than that of dental hygienists and occupational therapists.

Emotional labor is the process of regulating feelings or emotions and expressing them in the way that fulfill job requirement. There have been many studies about characteristics or related variables of service workers' emotional labor, but are few studies comparing emotional labor between service workers and non-service workers. Therefore we are to examine the differences of emotional labor among the different types of workers. And as depression and lowered quality of life are well known negative consequences of emotional labor, we also intend to study the relationship between depression, quality of life, and emotional labor. Data were collected from 125 sales workers, and 186 cyber university full time students. And as to assure the student participants to be non-service workers, we limited the participant job as administrator, soldier or housewife. To compare differences of groups, one-way ANOVA was performed with Fisher's LSD as post hoc comparison. On overload in customer reception, service workers showed significantly higher scores, and on demand of emotional regulation/emotional dissonance/depression, both service workers and housewives showed significantly higher scores. Also analysis of multiple regression was performed, and the result showed that, emotional dissonance increased depression but decreased quality of life, while support/care increased quality of life, but decreased depression. With the result, implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
Purpose: The end of one's life can be one of the most important times in human life. However, physicians, nurses and volunteer workers are not sufficiently trained to understand the end-life care with competence and confidence. The purpose of this study was to compare various education programs currently carried out for volunteer workers. Methods: Nine curricula of hospice and palliative cares for volunteer workers at hospital and palliative care settings. Results: The mean time duration of theory education at nine institutes was 21.56 hours (range; 14-30). The common curricula of hospice and palliative cares for volunteer workers included 'Understanding of hospice and palliative care', 'Understanding of life and death', and 'Understanding of psychologic problem of end-of-life'. The education method comprised lectures, off-line 8 institutes and on-line 1 instiutute. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop the standard curriculum as well as regularly updated education program for volunteer workers.
