  • This study aims to suggest the ways to reinforce academic library's research support services for professors and researchers in Korea. For this purpose, this study collected the development plans of academic libraries in Korea, and analysed the plans for supporting research activities, and also analysed each library's homepage. And this research classified the research support services of academic libraries into eight types for further analysis. The types are 'subject guide', 'academic information literacy', 'research analysis service', 'research consulting', 'research ethics education', 'thesis writing guide', 'bibliography management program', 'interlibrary loan·original text copy'. As a result, it is shown that the most libraries emphasized 'custom-tailored user education' and marked it on development plan. As subsequent plans, libraries provided the action plans of 'expansion of scholarly DB instruction on each subject', 'expansion of custom-tailored research support services', 'construction of research support service system' one after another. This study suggests 'activation of subject guide service', 'expansion of academic information literacy programs for supporting research', 'introduction of research performance analysis services', and 'support for establishment of research ethics' as ways to strengthen academic libraries' research support services.

  • The major role of school librarians in Korea has been providing reading guidance and library user education with paper resources. However, digital users have become more ubiquitous and demand more information with the images and digital materials. Therefore, school libraries need to collect more images and digital materials. At the same time, school librarians have to equip themselves with the ability to cope with this transformation. The qualified school librarians not only should have a teaching certificate but also know about techniques to transform various library materials into digital formats. Teachers and students could use these materials for their Web site homepages and Powerpoint presentations.

  • The library provides its services to satisfy the user's approach. Naturally, the development of library services may determine by considering the satisfaction of users. It traces users' perceptions regarding subject access highlighting problems in the retrieval of Bengali documents by subject. This study has designed to assess users' attitudes towards the retrievals of Bengali documents in OPAC through subject headings. For a collection of data, a representative sample has drawn from a large and heterogeneous population consisting of users in university libraries of West Bengal using a stratified sampling technique. Subsequently, under each of the universities, users' community was stratified into students, research scholars, and faculty members. Under each stratum, the sample selected on a random basis. The users met personally to collect relevant data, while they came to the library and went on to search OPAC. A structured schedule, prepared for the purpose, was presented before library users and consequently, interviews and interpretations recorded systematically. In this manner, several factors have identified concerning subject searching and retrieval performance for Bengali documents. This study explores the access using subject headings in multilingual information retrieval systems. Moreover, the suitability of subject headings for retrieval of Bengali resources has ascertained from the users' point of view. The findings demand standard principles and rules for the construction of Bengali subject headings to maintain uniformity and consistency.

  • This study aims to define the user experience and to evaluate the usability toward electronic publication for education and research. As research methods, After total 20 people of 10 undergraduate students and 10 graduate students were randomly selected as the subjects, the research was conducted by using the in-depth interview and the e-book reader experimental method. As the results of analysis about subjective preferences in case of using academic resources, The subject relevance and understandability were responded as most important factors for selecting academic resources. And the most frequent purposes for using academic resources were to perform an assignment and to write an article. As the results of analysis about the user experience for using the print media and electronic media, the user experience of the print media is more positive than the electronic media and especially these results were caused by academic situation. • This study does a qualitative and quantitative analysis of how music by humming is being used by music educators in the classroom. Music by humming is part division of music information retrieval. In order to define what a music information retrieval system is first I need to define what it is. Berger and Lafferty (1999) define information retrieval as "someone doing a query to a retrieval system, a user begins with an information need. This need is an ideal document- perfect fit for the user, but almost certainly not present in the retrieval system's collection of documents. From this ideal document, the user selects a group of identifying terms. In the context of traditional IR, one could view this group of terms as akin to expanded query." Music Information Retrieval has its background in information systems, data mining, intelligent systems, library science, music history and music theory. Three rounds of surveys using question pro where completed. The study found that there were variances in knowledge, training and level of awareness of query by humming, music information retrieval systems. Those variance relationships where based on music specialty, level that they teach, and age of the respondents.
