A MFCC-based CELP Speech Coder for Server-based Speech Recognition in Network Environments (네트워크 환경에서 서버용 음성 인식을 위한 MFCC 기반 음성 부호화기 설계)

  • Existing standard speech coders can provide speech communication of high quality while they degrade the performance of speech recognition systems that use the reconstructed speech by the coders. The main cause of the degradation is that the spectral envelope parameters in speech coding are optimized to speech quality rather than to the performance of speech recognition. For example, mel-frequency cepstral coefficient (MFCC) is generally known to provide better speech recognition performance than linear prediction coefficient (LPC) that is a typical parameter set in speech coding. In this paper, we propose a speech coder using MFCC instead of LPC to improve the performance of a server-based speech recognition system in network environments. However, the main drawback of using MFCC is to develop the efficient MFCC quantization with a low-bit rate. First, we explore the interframe correlation of MFCCs, which results in the predictive quantization of MFCC. Second, a safety-net scheme is proposed to make the MFCC-based speech coder robust to channel error. As a result, we propose a 8.7 kbps MFCC-based CELP coder. It is shown from a PESQ test that the proposed speech coder has a comparable speech quality to 8 kbps G.729 while it is shown that the performance of speech recognition using the proposed speech coder is better than that using G.729.

  • 하천 홍수량의 정확한 측정은 홍수 관리, 수자원 관리, 수공구조물의 설계와 시공, 수환경 관리에 있어서 매우 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 따라서 국가는 전문기관을 통하여 국가하천의 홍수량을 정확하게 측정하려는 노력을 하여왔고 이러한 목적에 따라 다양한 홍수량 측정방법이 개발되어 왔다. 전 세계적으로 이러한 움직임을 대변하고 있는 최신의 기술은 ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler)를 이용하여 하천을 횡단하면서 유속과 수심을 측정하여 유량을 측정하는 방법이며, 이러한 횡단 유량을 측정하기 위해서 원격으로 조정하는 유량 계측보트를 이용하는 방법이 각광을 받고 있다. 그러나 ADCP를 하천에서 이용할 때 수면 아래 10%, 하상 위 10% 정도는 ADCP를 이용하여 정확하게 유속을 측정하기가 어렵기 때문에 이론적인 가정에 근거한 유량산정 방법을 통하여 구하고 있다. 따라서 최신의 유량측정 방법이라고 하더라도 기본적으로 20% 정도의 유량측정 에러를 포함할 가능성이 많고 실제로도 5-15% 정도의 측정오차를 갖는 것이 일반적이다. 이러한 측정오차를 5% 이내로 줄일 수 있다면 홍수 관리, 수자원 관리, 수공구조물의 설계와 시공 등에서 보다 효율적이고 정확한 관리가 실행될 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 ADCP와 원격유량계측보트를 이용하여 하천의 홍수량 측정시 유량측정의 정확도를 향상시킬 수 있도록 1) 불규칙한 홍수량 횡단면을 갖는 측정결과로부터 최적 횡단면을 추출하는 기술과 2) 홍수량 측정시 바닥층 유속 프로파일을 산정할 수 있는 최적 유속분포 확정 기술에 대해 연구하고자 하였다.

The Flight of the Bumblebee Queen, Bombus terrestris, After Diapause Termination Affects to Oviposition and Colony Development

  • It was investigated whether or not flight has any effects on oviposition and colony development of the artificially hibernated Bombus terrestris queen and ,$CO_2$-treated queen. Flight periods were defined as 0 days (control), 1 day, 3 days and 6 days. The weights of queens after flight were 1.5-8.9% lower than those before flight depending on the flight periods. The oviposition and colony development of artificially hibernated and $CO_2$-treated B. terrestris queen were affected by the flight. Among flight periods tested, in particular, the queens start to flight for 3 days showed better flight effect than those other flight periods in the colony development, rate of colony foundation, rate of progeny-queen production, the number of worker and queen produced. But, the longer the flight periods is, the worse the oviposition and colony development of the queens hibernated artificially and $CO_2$-treated are (i.e., the 6 days-flight queen).

  • Owing to many advantages on indirect intersubband absorption from the hole miniband to the electron miniband based on the type-II band alignment in InAs/GaSb strained-layer superlattice (SLS), InAs/GaSb SLS infrared photodetector (SLIP) has emerged as a promising system to realize high-detectivity quantum photodetector operating up to room temperature in the spectral range of mid-infrared (MIR) to far-infrared (FIR). In particular, n-barrier-n (n-B-n) structure designed for blocking the majority-carrier dark current makes it possible for MIR/FIR dual-band SLIP whose photoresponse (PR) band can be exclusively selected by the bias polarity. In this study, we present the MIR and FIR photoresponse (PR) mechanism identified by dual-band PR spectra and photoluminescence (PL) profiles taken from InAs/GaSb SLIP. In the MIR/FIR PR spectra measured by changing bias polarity, each spectrum individually shows a series of distinctive peaks related to the transitions from the hole subbands to the conduction one. The PR mechanism at each polarity is discussed in terms of diffusion current, and a superposition of MIR-PR in the FIR-PR spectrum is explained by tunnelling of electrons activated in MIR-SLS. The effective FIR-PR spectrum decomposed into three curves for HH1, LH1, and HH2 has revealed the edge energies of 120, 170, and 220 meV, respectively, and the temperature variation of the MIR-PR edge energies shows that the temperature behavior of the SLS systems can be approximately expressed by the Varshni empirical equation.

  • Photoreflectance (PR) 분광법은 비접촉, 비파괴적인 변조분광법으로서 반도체 표면 및 계면의 광학적 특성 연구에 많이 이용되고 있다. PR 신호의 Franz-Keldysh oscillation (FKO)으로부터 Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) 방법으로 성장한 InAs/GaAs 양자점 태양전지 접합계면의 전기장을 조사하였다. InAs 양자점의 크기는 각각 1.7, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 monolayer이며, p+-n-n+ 태양전지 구조의 표면으로부터 1.8 ${\mu}m$, 활성영역으로부터 약 1.1 ${\mu}m$ 위치에 삽입되어 있다. 여기광 세기가 큰 영역(1~200 $mW/cm^2$)에서 접합계면의 전기장으로부터 관측한 photovoltage 효과는 로그 스케일에서 대체로 선형적인 분포를 보였으며, 이를 계산결과와 비교 분석하였다. 또한, 양자점 크기 및 온도에 따른 photovoltage 효과는 활성영역에서 여기된 운반자의 양 및 양자점에 의한 전하트랩의 영향과 관련하여 비교 분석하였다.

  • The stress conditions acting on the practical structure are complex, and thus most cracks existing in the practical structures are under mixed-mode loading conditions. The effect of shear load component of mixed-mode loading acts more greatly in the stage of crack initiation and initial propagation than crack propagation stage. Hence, research on the behavior in the stage of crack initiation and initial propagation need to be examined in order to evaluate behavior of mixed-mode fatigue cracks. In this study, the crack tip displacement(CTD) was measured by using the direct measuring method(DMM). We examined the behavior at crack tip by determining crack opening load$(P_{op})$. From the test results, the propagation behavior of mixed-mode fatigue cracks was evaluated by considering mixed-mode crack closure. Also, we examined the characteristic of crack propagation under mixed-mode loading with crack propagation direction.

  • The term 'craniovertebral junction' refers to the occipital bone that surrounds the foramen magnum and the atlas and the axis vertebrae. A wide variety of congenital, developmental, and acquired anomalies exist at the craniovertebral junction. The authors present a rare case of the congenital anomaly of the craniovertebral junction consisting of atlantal hypoplasia, atlantal assimilation, and basilar invagination in a 58-year-old male. An occiput-C2 arthrodesis was performed. The clinical and imaging features are described, and the embryology and etiology of this anomaly are discussed.

The Impact of Korean Franchise Coffee Shop Service Quality and Atmosphere on Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to analyze franchise coffee shop service quality factors based on pilot research. In the proposed analysis, store atmosphere is added as one of the service quality factors. We aim to examine how franchise coffee shop service quality and store atmosphere influence customer satisfaction and loyalty. Research design, data, and methodology - Data was collected from 482 Korean coffee shop franchises and analyzed using frequency analysis, reliability/validity assessments, correlation analysis, and regression analysis with the software program SPSS 19.0. Results - The results are as follows. First, taste is revealed to be the most influential factor among components that have an impact on service quality. Second, taste also turned out to have the most impact on service quality among components influencing customer loyalty. Last, customer satisfaction affected customer loyalty. Conclusions - This study's findings show that taste was the most influential factor on service quality. The conclusion here is that most of the coffee shop customers are very familiar with coffee taste and this is influencing their loyalty.

Effects of Food Polysaccharides and Seaweed Calcium on the Physicochemical Properties of Prickly Pear Extract Fermented by Lactobacillus rhamnosus LS

  • Prickly pear extract (PPE) was fermented by Lactobacillus rhamnosus LS at 3$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 days. To improve the physicochemical properties of fermented PPE, it was fortified with food polysaccharides (0.2 %) or seaweed calcium before lactic acid fermentation. The viable cell counts, flow behavior, titratable acidity and color stability of fermented PPE were evaluated during 4 weeks of cold storage. Addition of xanthan gum or glucomannan increased the apparent viscosity and acid production, viable cell counts and red color of PPE were also well maintained during the cold storage. However, fermenting PPE with gellan gum resulted in a decrease in relative absorbance, indicating lower color stability. In particular, PPE fortified with carrageenan or alginic acid showed reduced acid production and lower viable cell counts. Addition of seaweed calcium at a 0.1 % level had positive effects on color stability, and helped maintain viable cell counts of 4.1 ${\times}$ 10$^{9}$ CFU/mL. This study demonstrated that xanthan gum could be used as a good thickening agent and stabilizer for retaining viable cell counts and red color during the cold storage in PPE fermented by lactic acid bacteria.

  • Researches are working on integration of ontology in order to reuse the constructed ontologies. And lots of tools lot ontology integration have been developed and used. However conventional methods and tools have following shortages: they cannot integrate more than three ontologies at once, and numbers of people cannot work together for ontology integration with the tools. In this paper, we propose an ontology integration process (OntoIntegProcess) by using MetaOntology[1]. And we develop an ontology integration system (OntoIS) based on the process. We show the effectiveness of the proposed process and system through experimental results obtained from ontology integration.
