A Study on Nursing Students' Attitudes toward Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) (간호학생이 지각하는 보완대체요법에 대한 태도 조사연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to help in explaining the necessity of education on complementary and alternative medicine(CAM) and opening relevant curriculums in nursing education by grasping the kinds of CAM in which nursing students want to be opened. Data were collected from September 27, 2003 through October 20, 2003. A group of 865 nursing students were surveyed using questionnaires in seven universities whose curriculums on CAM have not been available. Collected data were statistically analyzed by using SAS 8.02 system, and the study results are as follows: 1. The average of subjects' behavior toward CAM was 3.52 of the total 5 with practical affairs 3.79. medical treatment 3.79, social concerns 3.84, and communication 3.78. 2. Most nursing students $(90.6\%)$ did not precisely understand the meaning of CAM although they had heard of it. Most of them $(85.5\%)$ had no experience of applying CAM. The study also revealed that more qualified CAM lecturers in the future are needed: specialist in the relevant field $(83.2\%)$, doctor and herb doctor $(6.5\%)$, clinical nurse $(6.0\%)$ and professor of the department of nursing science $(4.3\%)$. 3. Concerning students' behavior toward CAM, there were statistically significant difference between students from agrarian and fishing villages (F=4.91. p=.007) and the others. 4. CAM courses that students want were therapeutic touch (massage) $(22.9\%)$. aroma therapy $(14.8\%)$, manual healing methods $(14.7\%)$, treatment of blood vessel $(8.3\%)$, foot reflexology $(7.9\%)$, and heart remedy $(6.8\%)$. In conclusion, the study indicated that nursing students had positive attitudes toward CAM and for this. healers should have a frank talk with patients in order to maximize symptom-relieving effects. However, the study showed that most nursing students did not understand the exact meaning of CAM. Considered the fact that improvement of both health status and quality of life will be an important issue in the future, active introduction and education of CAM in nursing curriculum are a matter of necessity.

  • Education policy is a dynamic process featuring social development trends. The world countries have focused their education program on empowering the learners for future life and work. This paper aims to assess the higher education curriculum based on a survey of 280 students, employers, alumni, and lecturers in both social sciences and natural sciences in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The fuzzy decision-making method, namely the Fuzzy Extent Analysis Method (F-EAM), was applied to measure the relative weight of each parameter. Seven factors under the curriculum development have been put in the ranking. Input with emphasis on foreign language was the highest priority in curriculum development, given the expected demand of the labor market. Objective and learning outcome and teaching activities ranked second and third, respectively. The traditional triangle of teaching content, methodology, and evaluation and assessment are still proven their roles, but certain modifications have been defined in the advanced curriculum. Teaching facilities had the least weight among the seven dimensions of curriculum development. The findings are helpful for education managers to efficiently allocate scarce resources to reform the curriculum to bridge the undergraduate quality gap between labor supply and demand, meeting the dynamic trends of social development.

Development of a Visual Hydraulic Oil System for the Efficient Hydraulic Oil Experiment Education (효율적인 유압 실험실습교육을 위한 비주얼 유압 시스템 개발)

  • Current educational hydraulic oil systems consist of the composites for the hydraulic circuits. These systems not only could attract students' interests, but also increase the teaching efficiency during the lectures. Thus, the visual hydraulic oil system has been developed to enhance educational efficiency and to improve learning methods. With this new system, the students can easily examine the oil flow for hydraulic oil parts in mechanical engineering experiments. In order to develop the new system, the hydraulic constitute was made of acryl resin, and previous pipes were replaced by transparent and flexible tubes. Red colored oil was also used to visualize the oil flow. Furthermore, if OHP (Over Head Projector) was used for a theoretical lectures, the visual units can be used to classify the differences of the valve structure or the circuits. If lecturers use the developed visual hydraulic system, students can make an effective experiment on the basic theories and principles. Therefore, we can promote the students' interests and materialize the objectives of the subject. The results of this paper can be widely used to improve the efficiency of the mechanical engineering education.

A Study on the Actual Status of Professors in Department of Food and Nutrition at Junior College (전문대학 식품영양과의 교수실태에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to propose the way to give substantial education for the students of Departments of Food and Nutrition in Junior College. Questionnaires were gathered from the professors of the Departments of Food and Nutrition in Junior Colleges. The results of this study could be summarized as follows. 1. The professors and assistant teachers appointed in Department of Food and Nutrition in Junior Colleges were insufficient in number showing the sufficiency proportion of 35.8% and 61% respectively. 2. Part time lecturers took charge of lectures on major subject up to 27%. 3. The academic backgrounds of all professors were above a master's degree, and the number of professors who were In the doctor's course and who had got doctor's degree amounted to 31.5% and 27.9% respectively. 4. The number of professors who had majored in the course of Food and Nutrition at university or at graduate school was the most and that of Food Engineering ranked the next. 5. The number of professors having careers in the fields of food and nutrition before the appointment to professor amounted to 32%. 6. The number of professors having domestic training managed by the Education Ministry amounted to 67.8%, but those having foreign training amounted to only 8.3%. 7. The number of domestic scientific journals subscribed by one professor was on an average 2.8, but that of foreign was only 0.8. 8. Each professor associated on an average 2.7 kinds of academic society, and published 3.6 pieces of thesis in the last three years. 9. The professors were comparatively satisfied with their present occupations, but they were dissatisfied with such points as deficiency of educational postulates, insufficient income, low level in intellectual faculties of their students and lack of social understanding.

  • Most of the computer-based distance learning systems are asynchronous ones that allow students to download from the server the lecture previously given by a lecturer. While these asynchronous systems has the advantage that enable students to view the lecture with no time restriction, the study may not be effective due to the lack of support for real-time interaction between students and lecturers. Based on the student-lecturer-collaboration session model, this paper presents a collaboration session-centric synchronous distance learning system that supports real-time interaction between students and teachers, awareness information during lecture, and feedback from students. Basic feature of the proposed system include audio and video conferencing, text-based chat, and shared slide with annotation support.

A Comparative Study between the Lectures on the Practices of Mathematics Education in the Courses for Pre-service Elementary Teachers of Two University in United States and Korea - Focussed on two professors' cases - (미국과 한국의 초등 교원 양성 과정에서 수학교육의 실제에 대한 수업 비교 연구 - 두 교수의 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • The study aims to compare between two lectures of elementary mathematics education in United States and Korea based on the Ball et al.'s classification of mathematical knowledge for teaching. The lecturers are a professor of University in United States and me. In both lectures, subjects and contents of lectures are much similar but there are many different things. And the differences are mainly due to the area of pedagogical content knowledge, especially either knowledge of content and students or knowledge of content and teaching. Also the different courses of both universities are one of important causes of the differences. The study will be able to contribute to the studies on the improvement of our course, elementary mathematics education.

A Study on Improvement of the Course of Hazardous Materials (위험물질론 교과운영의 개선방안에 관한 연구)

  • Accidents cases about hazardous materials in university laboratories and other places are reviewed in this thesis. Then the curriculums that are currently operated in related educational institutions are researched. The researched educational institutions include 'National Fire Service Academy', local 'Fire Service Academies' that are located in Gyeonggi, Busan, Gwangju, Gyeongbuk, and Chungcheong and nationwide 'universities'. A questionnaire survey about hazardous materials with fire officers who are on educational courses in National 119 Rescue Services and local 'Fire Service Academies' is also performed and analyzed. The analyzed results suggest several implications. First, the education courses concerning hazardous materials and the experiment manual should be developed very soon. Second, hazardous materials related courses should be performed by lecturers who has degree in related majors. The third, to prevent the accidents about hazardous materials, the professionals should be trained more. In sum, the experiment centered education courses about hazardous materials should be achieved.

A Study on Analysis of Current Status and Improvement Suggestions for Massive Open Online Courses (온라인 공개 강좌 MOOC의 현황 분석 및 개선안 연구)

  • Massive Open Online Courses(MOOC), originally started from United States, have recently received a great deal of attention all over the world. MOOC means free online courses that anyone can attend anytime. In Korea, KERIS(Korea Education and Research Information Service) and some universities provide various MOOC services. The purpose of this paper is to present current status and improvement suggestions of MOOC. We first introduce the formal definition and history of MOOC, then discuss current status of MOOC services in Korea and other countries. We finally present improvement suggestions that include induction of active participation for universities, value creation for campus, development of revenue model, providing motivation to students for finishing courses, development of LMS(Learning Management System), securing well-trained lecturers, translation of lecture materials, ensuring quality of authentification system of MOOC services.

Assessing educational needs in the development of a simulation-based convergence training program on mental health nursing (시뮬레이션 융합 프로그램 개발을 위한 정신건강간호 교육요구도 조사)

  • This study was to identify the educational needs for mental health nursing among undergraduate nursing students, prioritizing the areas where require extensive convergence learning via simulation. One hundred and forty students completed the survey where data accrued from between March-May 2020. The educational needs for mental health nursing and nursing care schizophrenia patients were assessed using a self-reporting questionnaire, which included 19 and 15 items, respectively. Additional three essay questions were used to obtain information regarding previous simulation education experience. Higher educational needs in nursing care for schizophrenia were identified and the highest-priority need is communication skills. Factors, including realistic experience with standardized patients, teamwork, and feedback from the lecturers, affect positive experiences in mental health nursing simulation. The findings suggest that educational programs to improve communication skills are necessary for better mental health nursing competency. Well-designed and convergence based simulation programs providing real-like clinical experience would ensure optimal learning outcomes.

A Study on the Improvement of Information Education for the Elderly (고령층 정보화 교육 활성화 방안에 관한 연구)

  • The ability to use and utilize information technology devices in the knowledge-based society shows many differences in terms of quality of life. However, in the case of the elderly, the elderly suffer difficulties in acquiring information technology due to their aging characteristics, so they can not easily adapt to rapidly changing societies. Therefore, it is becoming more and more important to educate the elderly who are trying to adapt to the new environment of knowledge-based society. Therefore, in this study, we analyzed the previous researches of the researchers related to the elderly informatization education and the report of the actual situation of the digital divide of the government, and identified the problems and suggested ways to activate the effective education for the aged. The following suggestions are made to activate information education. First, there is a need for systematic promotion and professional counseling on the need for information education for the elderly learners. Second, the development of various curriculum that can be used in real life. Third, development of customized learning materials. etc. Fourth, Obtain a professional lecturer for the elderly. It is limited to lecturers who have completed teaching and learning methods that reflect the characteristics of the elderly. Fifth, the introduction of qualification certification system that can measure the level of informatization of the elderly learners. Sixth, building e-learning system for elderly people. Seventh, to establish a new organization dedicated solely to information education for the elderly. When these parts are realized, it will help elderly people to improve their quality of life through alleviation of solitude and alienation.
