The Best Practices of Performance Management & Application from Public Research Institutes in Korea (국내 공공연구기관의 성과관리.활용에 관한 우수 사례 연구)

  • An increase of national R&D has brought the growth of research performance such as paper and patent quantitatively. However, the results of technology transfer and commercialization still leave much to be desired in Korea. Therefore, it has to be drawn up a plan for effective management & application of research performance created by public research institutes. We select four leading institutes (two universities, two government-funded research institutes) that performed efficient performance management & application. Then, we analyze the best practices and suggest contributions. The results show that four institutes build up a framework of performance management & application from research planning to technology transfer and commercialization. At an early planning phase, institutes set up definite needs-oriented goals, and prior review as well as prior art search is executed through experts. Besides, they systematically promote strategic patent management, technology marketing, post management, and so forth. For such a performance management & application process, capabilities have to be supported with regard to specialized organization, system, routine. This study can give an hint to improve performance management & application from public research institutes in Korea.

A Study on the Architectural Characteristics of Middle Schools Built in the 2000s - Focused on 'Excellent School Facilities' selected by EDUMAC (2000년대 중학교 건축의 특성에 관한 연구 -에듀맥의 '우수학교 시설 설계 자료집' 수록 학교들을 대상으로)

  • During the 2000s there were changes in the educational facility policy having impact on school architecture, such as departmental classroom system by the 7th national curriculum and BTL projects. Especially for secondary school architecture with the new keyword of 'departmental classroom system' unlike elementary school with the well-known keyword of 'open classroom', the emergence of new school architecture was anticipated. For these reasons it is worth while to notice secondary school architecture in the 2000s and this study aims to review the architectural characteristics of middle schools as first step. Cases of 18 schools selected by EDUMAC were analyzed focused on site planning and planning characteristics of each spaces. Through the analysis, the architectural characteristics of middle schools in the 2000s are summarized and comments on some problems are made. In summary, case schools have typical characteristics of Korean school architecture in unit classrooms and block plan for daylight condition. On the other hand, they have more diversity in space organization and facility program. But it leave something to be desired in expressing urban architectural characteristics, traditionality and locality with searching for new school architecture.

An Analysis of Suicidal Accidents on Psychiatric In-patients (입원중 정신병 환자의 자살사고 요인 분석)

  • Suicides have been considered to be one of the grave problems of modern societies. According to recent police statistics of Republic of Korea, 28.6 suicides in every 100, 000 were reported. Psychiatric Patients are believed to be predisposed to suicidal tendencies. This study was performed to investigate the characteristics of suicidal attempts and to analyse the environmental factors involved in the suicidal accidents of patients admitted to psychiatric hospitals. Records of 66 suicidal accidents from three psychiatric hospitals during the period of January 1971 through June 1971 were sampled. Data were analysed by percentile score. Results are as follows; 1. The age group of 21~30yrs. was revealed to be the highest in frequency of suicidal attempts (50.0%) Among the unsuccessful suicides; the age group of 31~40yrs. in men and the age group of 21~30 yrs. in women revealed to be the highest in frequency-Among the unsuccessful suicides; the age group of 21-30 yrs. in both sex revealed to be the highest in frequency. 2. Suicidal accidents occurred more frequently to the unmarried(63.6%)- Among the successful suicides; higher frequency was shown to unmarried in men and the frequency is contrasted in women. Among the unsuccessful; the unmarried in both sex were revealed to be highest in frequency. 3. Schizophrenia was revealed the highest of suicidal attempts in frequency (81.8%). 4, Suicides were most frequently attempted in the spring(46, 9%). Among the successful suicides; highest frequencies were shown in men in tile winter and in women in the summer season. Among the unsuccessful suicides :highest frequencies were shown in men in the winter and in women in the spring. 5. Suicidal attempts were most frequently occurred in hospital wards (40.9%), In women, unsuccessful attempts were found to be the highest on authorized leave at their homes. 6. The hanging was revealed to be the most frequently adopted methods for suicidal attempts (31.8%). Among the successful suicides; hanging was the most frequent method adopted in men white in women the drug over-dose, Among the unsuccessful suicides ; stabbing by sharp devices while in women drug-overdosage was adopted as well 7. The most frequently adopted instrument of different suicidal attempts were: house-hold wrapper (26.3%) in cases of hanging, knives (31.8%) in cases of stabbing, and drugs. 8. The suicidal attempts have occurred most frequently at dawn through early morning (2-6A. M.) (34.8%). Among the successful suicides i most frequent time of occurrence on week-days were revealed to be dawn, while on holidays the occurrence were in the evening as well Among the unsuccessful; the most frequent time of occurrence was the day hours while on holidays at dawn. 9. Suicidal attempts within the hospital ward were first noticed by nurses most frequently (42.2%). 10. Manifestations such as restlessness, depression, self-depreciation were revealed to be the most frequent pre-suicidal attempt behavior characteristics. 11. Among the successful suicides ; manifestations of physical damage were found on the neck while among unsuccessful attempts, the damages were found on exterminates.

Studies on the life history of cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover (Homoptera) (목화진딧물(Aphis gossypii Glover)의 생활사에 관한 연구)

  • The cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover, is known as the most important vectant vector of citrus tristeza virus, cucumber mosaic virus, potato virus Y and potato leafroll virus. This study conducted to investigate the life history of cotton aphid at Suweon, Korea$(Lat.37^{\circ}16'N,\;Long\;126^{\circ}59'E)$. The aphids were reared in small cages placed over twig of hibiscus and on the leaves of cucumber. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. Overwintering eggs hatched from mid to late April, with a hatching rate averaging seventy-nine percent. 2. The early-born progeny have 22 generations and the late-born progeny have 6 generations on hibiscus and cucumber from April to October. 3. The fundatrigeniae leave tile the primary host in late May to early June and migrate to the secondary hosts. 4. From early to mid Oct., the gynoparae migrate from the secondary hosts to the primary host. 5. The average length of life was about 29 days and they produced an average of 70 nymphs each. 6. The maximum number of aphids produced per female was 117 in the spring. 7. The developmental period ranged from 6 to 16 days (average 8 days), the reproductive period from 12.2 to 24.6 days (average 19 days). 8. The average number of nymphs produced by a female per dys was about 3.7, with a maximum number of 17.

  • PICC are dealing with form requirements of international commercial contract under writings in confirmation, conclusion of contract dependent on agreement on specific matters or in a particular form, contract with terms deliberately left open, merger clauses, modification in a particular form. If a writing which is sent within a reasonable time after the conclusion of the contract and which purports to be a confirmation of the contract contains additional or different terms, such terms become part of the contract, unless they materially alter the contract or the recipient, without undue delay, objects to the discrepancy. Where in the course of negotiations one of the parties insists that the contract is not concluded until there is agreement on specific matters or in a particular form, no contract is concluded before agreement is reached on those matters or in that form. If the parties intend to conclude a contract, the fact that they intentionally leave a term to be agreed upon in further negotiations or to be determined by a third person does not prevent a contract from coming into existence. A contract in writing which contains a clause indicating that the writing completely embodies the terms on which the parties have agreed cannot be contradicted or supplemented by evidence of prior statements or agreements. However, such statements or agreements may be used to interpret the writing. A contract in writing which contains a clause requiring any modification or termination by agreement to be in a particular form may not be otherwise modified or terminated.

A Study on Evaluation of the Appropriateness of Hospitalization for Patients with Stroke (뇌졸중 환자의 재원 적절성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • This study aimed to clarify any factors that may have effect on the appropriateness of hospital admission and hospitalization with the intention of facilitating more efficient occupancy of hospital beds and better medical services in the aspect of their quality, minimizing unnecessary occupancy of beds, and ultimately helping patients requiring acute treatments to use immediately hospitals. This paper selected 154 Stroke patients who left neurology department of one general hospital from March, 1, 2006 to September, 31, 2010 as targets to meet the rate according to medical care security and to see the trend of recent 4 years. As study method, this paper analized medical treatment record with AEP to evaluate the appropriateness of hospital admission and stay and the collected data was computerized through SPSS 12.0. Based upon the results above, the conclusion was drawn that the higher appropriateness of hospital admission and the shorter length of hospital stay will lead to the higher appropriateness of hospitalization. In other words, it is required to provide hospitalized patients with all kinds of behaviors including medical treatments and nursing care service, management of pharmaceuticals, tests, rehabilitation and symptoms, as well as instructions and information for patients. Meanwhile, as it was found that the length of hospital stay may affect the appropriateness of hospitalization, the longer length of hospital stay may result in reduced bed turnover rate. In this light, it is necessary to organize a task force team responsible for evaluation and control of the appropriateness of hospitalization and hospital stay length to improve the quality of medical service in a medical center, so that patients can leave the center timely. Ultimately, governmental supports such as expansion of long-term care facilities will reduce the necessary length of hospital stay so that patients with stroke can receive rehabilitative treatments and long-term care service shortly after completion of acute treatments.

A Comparative Study on the Logic Structure of Myeongri Old Law and New Law (명리학 고법과 신법의 논리구조 비교연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to reaffirm the logical framework of the saju analysis method by recreating the saju model of old-law to study and organize the theories of frame in old-law Myeongri, and then by organizing and comparing the logic structure of the saju analysis method of new-law and old-law. Some believe that Myeongri Theory first appeared in the world in the Warring States Period when they were active with Gwigokja and Naknokja as origin, while others believe that it was origin that "Okjokyeong" was written by Kwak-Bak of Eastern Jin after a while. Since then, Myeongri Theory, which had been organized by Won-Cheongang and Yi-Heojung, has undergone a major transformation since reaching the Song Dynasty Seo-Japyeong. Based on this point, the Myeongri Theory of the previous generation is called the Old-law, and the subsequent theory is called the New-law. The changes in the logic structure of the old-law and the new-law leave a big difference and disconnect between those. But comparative studies have confirmed that the philosophy and logic structure due to natural laws that have not changed much such as the symbolic system of nature called Yinyang & five elements and Cheongan-jiji, the idea of a heavenly response projected in the Three Wonders of heaven, earth and human, and the concept of generation and time in the position of year-month-day-time.

A Study on the Process Encounter for Service Quality Control : Focusing on franchise restaurant (서비스품질 관리를 위한 프로세스 접점에 관한 연구 : 프랜차이즈 외식업을 중심으로)

  • Purpose - Foodservices have grown to over 60% of the franchise industry. However, despite reaching this high level, the foodservice franchise industry is experiencing severe ups and downs. While factors such as expansion by franchises and the entry of large multinational firms are causing this imbalance, the more serious problem faced by franchisees is the lack of know-how and correct operating procedures. Franchise headquarters should advise franchisees on important matters such as food ingredients, interior design, tableware, and fixtures. However, even though franchise headquarters have the ability to impart such management know-how, this is often a neglected area. Research design, data and methodology - This study was conducted in an industrial environment to present suitable competitive alternatives for foodservice franchises. Empirical analysis was conducted using a sample of 232 people with experience in targeting customers. The main purpose of this study is not to identify and analyze the factors affecting customer satisfaction. Customers of the Food Service Industry to invite contacts until departure for the service flow by identifying the expectations and allow this area by analyzing the resulting measures to enhance the competitiveness has presented. Results - Actual results contact factors affecting the quality of service on customer satisfaction was a significant influence. However, the end of this analysis, the actual customer satisfaction directly affects the quality of service that is only important factor can commit mistakes. Relatively large impact on customer satisfaction, which is relatively independent of the quality factor should be a review of zone of tolerance. In this study, eating phase relative to contact the service customer satisfaction was the most influential. The results, however, zone of tolerance for an area in the waiting and ordering dissatisfaction factors are appearing. And in the course of these services outside the zone of tolerance area is unsatisfactory evaluation is being done. Conclusions - After all, Foodservice, the contact service management for zone of tolerance the top priority should be can be seen. Foodservice contact first in the case of service quality factors caused by the continuous flow of services, so this step-by-step identification needs to be clearer. This, of course, to distinguish between the actual per unit of activity appears to be more difficult to follow, for it seems to need a lot of future complementary. Next is the assessment of customer service quality. Customers remember the experience for the services of a real contact through the assessment and service evaluation clearly emerge as the expected level can be difficult. However, this situation is controlled by the test method cannot be avoided unless there is no limit to the number of leave.   • As customers' irrational, rude behaviors are often covered by media recently, the issue is becoming a more serious social issue. Workers' stress in the service industry is very severe because they have to face and interact with customers with rude behaviors in-person due to the nature of the job. As a result of customers' rude behaviors, workers even desire to leave their organization because they feel doubts about their job and have negative emotions such as unpleasantness, depression, and fear. Considering that customers' rude behaviors directly impact service industry workers' ability to offer proper service, it is necessary to have appropriate measures against their rude behaviors. This research examined the impact of customers' rude behaviors on service industry workers' emotional dissonance, its impact on job stress, and the impact of job stress on organizational deviance, life violations and creativity. The study also analyzed the moderating effects of stress management education in emotional dissonance and job stress relationship to device ways to manage job stress more positively. To collect data, the study conducted a survey on medical service workers in the customer service sector of large general hospitals and small or medium-sized hospitals in Busan, and the results were as follows. First, rude behaviors had a significant positive(+) effect on emotional dissonance, which had a significant positive(+) effect on job stress. Third, job stress had a significant positive(+) effect on both organizational deviance an life violations. Fourth, job stress had a negative(-) significant effect on creativity. Fifth, there was no moderating effect of stress management education in the relationship between emotional dissonance and job stress.
