  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of HPAFO(Hinged Plastic Ankle Foot orthosis) and SPAFO(Solid Plastic Ankle Foot Orthosis) on standing balance and step moving in hemiplegia patients. Twenty hemiplegic patients were either inpatient or outpatient at the Rehabilitation medicine, MokPo J General Hospital and JeonJu J Medical Center from July 15, 2002 to September 15, 2002. Patients were able to ambulate independently for at least 10 meters and to stand independently for at least 10 minutes with balance measurement tool. The static balance and dynamic activity measurement was determined by SAKAI active balancer(Japan) with wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO. The static balance and dynamic activity analysis was analyzed by independent t-test. The results were as follows: 1. There were no significant difference in body weight bearing percent between wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO(p>0.05). 2. There were significant difference in whole path length between wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO(p<0.05). 3. There were significant difference in Effective Value Area between wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO(p>0.001). 4. There were significant difference in repeated functional time between wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO(p>0.001). 5. There were significant difference in cadence between wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO(p>0.001). The result of this study showed that wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO gave fair amount of improvement to static standing balance and dynamic movement ability of hemiplegic patients. The comparison result showed significant differences in between HPAFO and SPAHFO. The result of this study had a general limitation due to the restricted number of cases. The future study needs more detailed research and comparison with various variance between these two orthoses.

  • The purpose of the precent investigation was to investigate diversity patterns in a fragmented Young-do forested landscape. It was conducted on sloping 18 plots (twelve 50$\times$50 m plots and six 10$\times$100 m plots). Total 1562 individuals were identified and measured in the 50$\times$50 m plots. These were a total of 68 species of 23 families present in the three sites. Least significant differences (LSD) by post hoc analysis revealed that fragments site A had significantly greater densities than site B. Shannon-Wiener functions differed significantly among forests (F=4.12, p<0.05), with site A forest having significantly higher value (3.401) than the others (2.590 for site B and 2.648 for site C). Pinus thunbergii and Quercus aliena were dominant on most sites. site. The Pinus densiflora forest of sites A and C is distributed better in the NE exposures compared with the opposite ones. Ficus erecta and Pinus densiflora largely occupied the southern exposures. The spatial distribution in southern Young-do's littoral forest was very heterogeneous, reflected by most species having low densities and patchy distributions.

  • The purpose of the present investigation was to investigate diversity patterns in Mt. Neungdong forested landscape. It was conducted on twelve sloping plots $(100{\times}100 m)$ in the east and west sides of Mt. Neungdong. A total of 2,157 specimins were identified as trees with a diameter at breast height (DBH) ${\geq}$10 em. There were a total of 135 species of 35 families present in both regions of Mt. Neungdong. Least significant differences (LSD) by post hoc analysis revealed that region A had significantly greater densities than region B. Shannon-Wiener functions differed significantly between forests (F=4.12, < 0.05), with region B forest having a significantly higher value (2.118) than region A (1.882). Pinus thunbergii and Quercus aliena were dominant on most plots of both regions, however, the P. densiflora forest of region A was distributed better in the middle plots exposures compared to the opposite ones. Q. aliena, Q. mongolica, and Carpinus laxiflora largely occupied the middle and lower exposures of region B. The spatial distribution in Neungdong's forest was very heterogeneous and reflected by most species as having micro-climate and patchy distributions.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the types of mother's language and literacy information as they collaborated to write a letter during a 10-minute session. Subjects of the study consisted of 60 mothers and their children 10 boys and 10 girls each at the age of 3,4 and 5 The mothers' teaching language was analyzed on the basis of hoffman(1987)'s study and the types of information thant mothers and children exchanged during writing letters was analyzed by Burns and Casbergue (1992)'s categories. Frequency percentages and χ2 tests were used to analyze the data. The resuls of this study were as follows. 1. The types of the mothers' teaching language from the most to the least were mother-initiated statements mother-initiated questions and mother's responses to child's efforts. There were significant differences according to children's age in mothers' language. In the mother-initiated questions request questions were used most frequently and followed by interrogation questions and invitation questions next. The statements initiated by mothers were directive comments informative comments supportive comments insistence comments and invitation comments in order. Mothers' responses to child's efforts were corrects/controls additional cues confirmation promotion and praise in order. In all three types of the teaching language significant promotion and praise in order. In all three types of the teaching language significant differences were found according to children's age. 2. The types of information about writing were spelling content off task/preparation mechanical conventions and conceptual meaning of writing in order. Significant differences were found according to children's age. In the age group of 4-and 5-year-olds the mothers exchanged more information about spelling than the mothers of 3-years-olds who frequently used information about content and off task or preparation of writing the letter.

  • The objectives of this work here focus on the differences in responses to multiple cyclic tests of different sections along the length of the same tendon. Tendon specimens were obtained from the hindlimbs of canines and frozen to -70$^{\circ}C$. After thawing, specimens were mounted in the immersion bath at room temperature (22$^{\circ}C$) , preloaded to 0.13 N and then subjected to 3% or 4% of the initial length at a strain rate of 5%/sec. It was found that different sections of the same long tendons had different resistances to deformation. In general, the bone end sections were stiffer and carried greater loads for a given strain than the muscle end sections, and the mid-portions were the least stiff and carried the smallest loads for a given strain. The results of this study offer new information about the mechanical responses of collagenous tissues. We know more about their responses to multiple cyclic extensions and how their responses are different from the positions along the length of the tendon specimen. The nature and causes of these differences in the stiffness are not fully known. However, it is clear that differences in the mechanical response of tendons and other connective tissues are significant to musculoskeletal performance.

  • The purposes of this study were to classify adolescents by their lifestyles and to investigate the differences in clothing purchase behavior among lifestyle groups. The data were obtained from questionnaire completed 341 adolescents in Daegu area. The SPSS package was used for data analysis which included frequency, factor analysis, cluster analysis, ${\chi}^2$ test, ANOVA, and Scheffe test. Lifestyles of adolescents were categorized into five factors such as clothing hedonic shopping orientation, positive activity, material orientation, frugality, digital orientation. Three clusters (achievement orientation group, ordinary group, economic orientation group) were developed by five factors of lifestyles. While the achievement orientation group had the highest purchase motives and used the most information sources, the economic orientation group had the lowest purchasing motives and used the least information sources. There were significant differences in clothing purchase frequency and average clothing expenditure among three clusters.
