Effects of Teacher Support on Chinese EFL University Students' Listening Ability in a Blended Learning Environment (블렌디드 러닝 환경에서 교사의 지지가 중국 대학생의 영어 듣기 능력에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims to explore the differential effects of teacher support on Chinese EFL students' listening ability in a blended learning environment. 87 third-year English-major students in a Chinese university participated in this study and they were randomly divided into an autonomy group (n=22), an emotional group (n=22), a cognitive group (n=22) and a control group (n=21). Each experimental group received relevant teacher support during their 17-week course learning while the control group did not. To confirm the effects of teacher support, pre- and post- listening tests were conducted. The results of the paired t-tests demonstrated that all groups showed statistically significant improvement in their English listening ability. The results of the one-way ANOVA for the post-test revealed that autonomy support and cognitive support were more effective than emotional support in improving students' listening ability. Based on the findings, this study hopes to provide insights for EFL teachers in designing and arranging the activities in a blended course.

  • Computational Thinking(CT) is drawing attention as a core competency required for future talent in the 21st century. Software education for improving CT ability at home and abroad is in full swing. Among them, problem-solving programming education helps to improve CT ability. The CT-TDPS learning model follows the decomposition, abstraction thinking process, which modularizes complex problems, and the Agile development method, which is an iterative and incremental programming method to implement it. In this study, we tried to confirm the improvement of CT ability by applying CT-TDPS learning model to problem solving programming education using Scratch. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that in the problem solving programming education using the CT-TDPS learning model, it improved in all aspects of computing concept, computing performance, and computing perspective, which are sub-factors of CT ability. In addition, it was confirmed that there was a significant difference in the experimental group as a result of the t-test on the Dr.Scratch automatic evaluation result.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine effects of maker education program using the virtual reality content creation platform on the creative problem solving ability and learning flow of elementary school students. To achieve this purpose, we selected a virtual reality content creation platform that elementary school students can handle and share easily, and analyzed its effectiveness by applying the educational program in which the step-by-step activities of the TMSI model were reconstructed in relation to virtual reality content production education among existing maker education teaching and learning models. Through this study confirmed that the maker education program using the virtual reality content creation platform has a positive effect on the improvement of creative problem solving ability and learning flow of elementary school students.

A Study on the Prediction Diagnosis System Improvement by Error Terms and Learning Methodologies Application (오차항과 러닝 기법을 활용한 예측진단 시스템 개선 방안 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to apply the machine and deep learning methodology on error terms which are continuously auto-generated on the sensors with specific time period and prove the improvement effects of power generator prediction diagnosis system by comparing detection ability. Methods: The SVM(Support Vector Machine) and MLP(Multi Layer Perception) learning procedures were applied for predicting the target values and sequentially producing the error terms for confirming the detection improvement effects of suggested application. For checking the effectiveness of suggested procedures, several detection methodologies such as Cusum and EWMA were used for the comparison. Results: The statistical analysis result shows that without noticing the sequential trivial changes on current diagnosis system, suggested approach based on the error term diagnosis is sensing the changes in the very early stages. Conclusion: Using pattern of error terms as a diagnosis tool for the safety control process with SVM and MLP learning procedure, unusual symptoms could be detected earlier than current prediction system. By combining the suggested error term management methodology with current process seems to be meaningful for sustainable safety condition by early detecting the symptoms.

  • It takes quite amount of time to study a game because there are many game characters and different stages are exist for games. This paper used reinforcement learning algorithm for characters to learn, and so they can move intelligently. On learning early, the learning speed becomes slow. Improved sequential prediction method was used to improve the speed of learning. To compare a normal learning to an improved one, a game was created. As a result, improved character‘s ability was improved 30% on learning speed.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the possibility of development of flow level and problem-solving ability by Using robots in the programming classes. For this purpose, a course has been developed which consists of (1) strategies to motivate students and to improve flow level (2) Creative Problem Solving (CPS) teaching model to improve their problem solving abilities. We experimented the course with 30 second-grade middle school students and we could observe that the robot programming learning considered gender differences helps improving their problem solving abilities and flow level. Specially, the group of the female student was greater improvement than the group of the male student on flow level.

  • This study analyses the cross-application system, one of the diversified college admission processes, based on the entrance examination system by the reorganization of the education curriculum. In addition, this study suggests an improvement direction of mathematics education for students who cross-apply by comparing and analysing academic results in Calculus for those students entering universities through the cross-application system.

  • This study had a purpose to examine that problem solving process through the product design and conceptual design in engineering design education affected the improvement of students' self-directed learning ability. For this, we conducted in-depth interview with students that taken the introductory engineering design course. The main findings were as follows. First, the importance of diagnosing the learning needs and defining the problem was realized. Second, the importance of organizing lesson plans for problem solving and performing it out systematically was acknowledged. Third, they knew that continuous modification and supplements were needed, and also reviews and checks were needed after the evaluation process. Based on these results, the problem solving process of engineering design education affected a positive effect to students' self-directed learning.

  • This study certified that the mentality training that utilized ICT learning has been working as an important base having much effect on learner's basic attitude on physical education class, improvement of bodily exercise function, and class satisfaction, and that the exercise ability was improved in the scope of speed, form(posture), accuracy(shooting success rate), and adaptability(performance ability). It means it is a much more step-forwarded educational method that the advantages of ICT learning and mentality training at the existing learning method were applied to the reality. Regarding the object of this study, it is a little bit unreasonable to generalize its study results in that it wasn't intended for national unit sampling. Therefore, in the future study, it is necessary to continue to advance the study that its representative-ness was supplemented through the balanced sampling between area and area, and between grade and grade.

Design and Implementation of a Test Bank System Dynamically Adjusting to Students' Achievement Levels (수준별 개별학습을 지원하는 문제은행 시스템의 설계와 구현)

  • We developed a test bank system which dynamically adjusts to students' achievement levels. In order to dynamically calculate the student's achievement level, our system uses the question-response theory which is usually adopted to CAT. The system proposes appropriate questions depending on the students' achievement levels so that they can do self-directed and individualized learning. The system consists of pre-test, main learning, and review stages. In the pre-test stage, the intellectual level of the student is examined to determine the starting point in the main stage. In the main learning stage, individualized learning is performed. Finally, a review session is added to re-examine the questions that the student gave wrong answers. The output from the learning process of the system is not the usual test scores but the level of the student's intellectual ability which is produced through the question-response theory. The intellectual ability level index objectively measures the degree of improvement of the student's learning ability.
