This research aimed to assess the possibility of detecting forest degradation using time-series satellite imagery and three different deep learning-based change detection techniques. The dataset used for the deep learning models was composed of two sets, one based on surface reflectance (SR) spectral information from satellite imagery, combined with Texture Information (GLCM; Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix) and terrain information. The deep learning models employed for land cover change detection included image differencing using the Unet semantic segmentation model, multi-encoder Unet model, and multi-encoder Unet++ model. The study found that there was no significant difference in accuracy between the deep learning models for forest degradation detection. Both training and validation accuracies were approx-imately 89% and 92%, respectively. Among the three deep learning models, the multi-encoder Unet model showed the most efficient analysis time and comparable accuracy. Moreover, models that incorporated both texture and gradient information in addition to spectral information were found to have a higher classification accuracy compared to models that used only spectral information. Overall, the accuracy of forest degradation extraction was outstanding, achieving 98%.
E-learning is a networked phenomenon allowing for instant revisions and distribution, and goes beyond training and instruction to the delivery of information and tools to improve performance. The proponents of e-learning emphasizes that students learn more effectively when they interact and are involved with other students participating in similar endeavors. The paper outlines the process of development and design of e-learning based Management Sciences course, with the aim of ensuring widespread use, in undergraduate business program. Experiences in introducing students to e-learning course are reported. Feedback from students has been very positive but also indicates the need for ongoing support and direction. In addition, a survey was used to identify the determinants of students' academic performance of Management Science, and PLS based model is developed to analyze the results. Statistical results concerning the hypothesized model are provided.

This study suggests a data driven optimization approach, which simulates the models of human learning processes from cognitive sciences. It shows how the human learning processes can be simulated and applied to solving combinatorial optimization problems. The main advantage of using this method is in applying it into problems, which are very difficult to simulate. 'Undecidable' problems are considered as best possible application areas for this suggested approach. The concept of an 'undecidable' problem is redefined. The learning models in human learning and decision-making related to combinatorial optimization in cognitive and neural sciences are designed, simulated, and implemented to solve an optimization problem. We call this approach 'SLO : simulated learning for optimization.' Two different versions of SLO have been designed: SLO with position & link matrix, and SLO with decomposition algorithm. The methods are tested for traveling salespersons problems to show how these approaches derive new solution empirically. The tests show that simulated learning for optimization produces new solutions with better performance empirically. Its performance, compared to other hill-climbing type methods, is relatively good.
Compressed sensing (CS) has been investigated in magnetic resonance (MR) parametric mapping to reduce scan time. However, the relatively long reconstruction time restricts its widespread applications in the clinic. Recently, deep learning-based methods have shown great potential in accelerating reconstruction time and improving imaging quality in fast MR imaging, although their adaptation to parametric mapping is still in an early stage. In this paper, we proposed a novel deep learning-based framework DEMO for fast and robust MR parametric mapping. Different from current deep learning-based methods, DEMO trains the network in an unsupervised way, which is more practical given that it is difficult to acquire large fully sampled training data of parametric-weighted images. Specifically, a CS-based loss function is used in DEMO to avoid the necessity of using fully sampled k-space data as the label, thus making it an unsupervised learning approach. DEMO reconstructs parametric weighted images and generates a parametric map simultaneously by unrolling an interaction approach in conventional fast MR parametric mapping, which enables multi-tasking learning. Experimental results showed promising performance of the proposed DEMO framework in quantitative MR T1ρ mapping.
Background As the coronavirus disease 2019 virus made its way throughout the world, there was a complete overhaul of our day-to-day personal and professional lives. All aspects of health care were affected including academics. During the pandemic, teaching opportunities for resident training were drastically reduced. Consequently, medical universities in many parts across the globe implemented online learning, in which students are taught remotely and via digital platforms. Given these developments, evaluating the existing mode of teaching via digital platforms as well as incorporation of new models is critical to improve and implement. Methods We reviewed different online learning platforms used to continue regular academic teaching of the plastic surgery residency curriculum. This study compares the four popular Web conferencing platforms used for online learning and evaluated their suitability for providing plastic surgery education. Results In this study with a response rate of 59.9%, we found a 64% agreement rate to online classes being more convenient than normal classroom teaching. Conclusion Zoom was the most user-friendly, with a simple and intuitive interface that was ideal for online instruction. With a better understanding of factors related to online teaching and learning, we will be able to deliver quality education in residency programs in the future.
Introduction: Mobile learning enables users to interact with educational resources while in variable locations. Medical students in residency positions need to assimilate considerable knowledge besides their practical training and we therefore aimed to evaluate the impact of using short message service via cell phone as a learning tool in residents of Obstetrics and Gynecology in our hospital. Methods: We sent short messages including data about breast cancer to the cell phones of 25 residents of gynecology and obstetrics and asked them to study a well-designed booklet containing another set of information about the disease in the same period. The rate of learning derived from the two methods was compared by pre- and post-tests and self-satisfaction assessed by a relevant questionnaire at the end of the program. Results: The mobile learning method had a significantly better effect on learning and created more interest in the subject. Conclusion: Learning via receiving SMS can be an effective and appealing method of knowledge acquisition in higher levels of education.

There has been a rapid increase in the creation and alteration of new malware samples which is a huge financial risk for many organizations. There is a huge demand for improvement in classification and detection mechanisms available today, as some of the old strategies like classification using mac learning algorithms were proved to be useful but cannot perform well in the scalable auto feature extraction scenario. To overcome this there must be a mechanism to automatically analyze malware based on the automatic feature extraction process. For this purpose, the dynamic analysis of real malware executable files has been done to extract useful features like API call sequence and opcode sequence. The use of different hashing techniques has been analyzed to further generate images and convert them into image representable form which will allow us to use more advanced classification approaches to classify huge amounts of images using deep learning approaches. The use of deep learning algorithms like convolutional neural networks enables the classification of malware by converting it into images. These images when fed into the CNN after being converted into the grayscale image will perform comparatively well in case of dynamic changes in malware code as image samples will be changed by few pixels when classified based on a greyscale image. In this work, we used VGG-16 architecture of CNN for experimentation.
Bacteria are a very common cause of food poisoning. Moreover, bacteria form biofilms to protect themselves from harsh environments. Conventional detection methods for foodborne bacterial pathogens including the plate count method, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays require a lot of time and effort. Hyperspectral imaging has been used for food safety because of its non-destructive and real-time detection capability. This study assessed the feasibility of using hyperspectral imaging and machine learning techniques to detect biofilms formed by Escherichia coli. E. coli was cultured on a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) coupon, which is a main material of food processing facilities. Hyperspectral fluorescence images were acquired from 420 to 730 nm and analyzed by a single wavelength method and machine learning techniques to determine whether an E. coli culture was present. The prediction accuracy of a biofilm by the single wavelength method was 84.69%. The prediction accuracy by the machine learning techniques were 87.49, 91.16, 86.61, and 86.80% for decision tree (DT), k-nearest neighbor (k-NN), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), and partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), respectively. This result shows the possibility of using machine learning techniques, especially the k-NN model, to effectively detect bacterial pathogens and confirm food poisoning through hyperspectral images.

Main objectives of the this study are: to develop a model of "Flipped Leaning" that is designed to enhance self-directed learning, learning motivation and self-control, and to verify its effectiveness-in higher education. The verification process initially concentrated on the feasibility study of the model with a thorough literature review and case analyses; then, its general and practical applicability were tested with a field study. As a result, first, the CHANGE Class Model, specifically designed for effective and efficient "Flipped Learning", was developed. It is thus named for the stages that the learning process takes place in the model-i.e., (1) Check ${\rightarrow}$ (2) Ask ${\rightarrow}$ (3) Notice ${\rightarrow}$ (4) Group presentation ${\rightarrow}$ (5) Evaluation, and it emphasizes the dynamic, questions centered (i.e. back and forth between the students and the instructor as well as between the students) learning process. Second, the Model was instrumental in enhancing self-directed learning, learning motivation and self-control; thus, as a result, it significantly improved the effectiveness, the level of concentration and the attractiveness of the learning process. The value of this study lies in pointing to a clear plan to allow a student in higher learning to set-up a self-directed learning plan, to be able to control it while being continuously motivated to complete it.

The objective of this investigation was to develop rules for automatic categorization of concrete quality using selected artificial intelligence methods based on machine learning. The range of tested materials included concrete containing a new waste material - solid residue from coal combustion in fluidized bed boilers (CFBC fly ash) used as additive. The rapid chloride permeability test - Nordtest Method BUILD 492 method was used for determining chloride ions penetration in concrete. Performed experimental tests on obtained chloride migration provided data for learning and testing of rules discovered by machine learning techniques. It has been found that machine learning is a tool which can be applied to determine concrete durability. The rules generated by computer programs AQ21 and WEKA using J48 algorithm provided means for adequate categorization of plain concrete and concrete modified with CFBC fly ash as materials of good and acceptable resistance to chloride penetration.
