  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how primary caregivers of children with developmental disabilities aged 6 to 18 years perceived on tele-music programs in which their children participated during COVID-19. A total of 83 caregivers who voluntarily agreed to participate in this study responded to a survey either on-line or in person and 67 questionnaires were included in the final analysis after deleting 16 incomplete responses. The results showed that tele-music programs were rated somewhat suitable for distance learning but that there was still a need for adult assistance to help children with developmental disabilities participate in the program. When comparing the perceptions of caregivers who participated in remote general education versus who participated in tele-music program, significantly higher level of program engagement and positive responses from a child were perceived with tele-music program. The caregivers who participated in tele-music program showed significantly greater willingness to participate in tele-music therapy in the future than those who did not. The findings of this study presents information on how tele-music therapy has been implemented to children with disabilities and what can be considered for the the development of a tele-music therapy program.

  • Background: Ginseng can help regulate brain excitability, promote learning and memory, and resist cerebral ischemia in the central nervous system. Ginsenosides are the major effective compounds of Ginseng, but their protein targets in the brain have not been determined. Methods: We screened proteins that interact with the main components of ginseng (ginsenosides) by affinity chromatography and identified the 14-3-3 ζ protein as a potential target of ginsenosides in brain tissues. Results: Biolayer interferometry (BLI) analysis showed that 20(S)-protopanaxadiol (PPD), a ginseng saponin metabolite, exhibited the highest direct interaction to the 14-3-3 ζ protein. Subsequently, BLI kinetics analysis and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) assay showed that PPD specifically bound to the 14-3-3 ζ protein. The cocrystal structure of the 14-3-3 ζ protein-PPD complex showed that the main interactions occurred between the residues R56, R127, and Y128 of the 14-3-3 ζ protein and a portion of PPD. Moreover, mutating any of the above residues resulted in a significant decrease of affinity between PPD and the 14-3-3 ζ protein. Conclusion: Our results indicate the 14-3-3 ζ protein is the target of PPD, a ginsenoside metabolite. Crystallographic and mutagenesis studies suggest a direct interaction between PPD and the 14-3-3 ζ protein. This finding can help in the development of small-molecular compounds that bind to the 14-3-3 ζ protein on the basis of the structure of dammarane-type triterpenoid.

  • Public libraries are a space where residents learn a wide range of knowledge and ideologies, and as they are directly connected to life, various related studies have been conducted. In most previous studies, variables such as population, traffic accessibility, and environment were found to be highly relevant to library use. In this study, it can be said that the difference from previous studies is that the book borrow demand and relevance were analyzed by reflecting the variables of cultural characteristics based on the book borrow history (1,820,407 cases) and member information (297,222 persons). As a result of the analysis, it was analyzed that as the increase in borrows for social science and literature books compared to technical science books, the demand for book borrows increased. In addition, various descriptive statistical analyzes were used to analyze the characteristics of library book borrow demand, and policy implications and limitations of the study were also presented based on the analysis results. and considering that cultural characteristics change depending on the location and time of day, it is believed that related research should be continued in the future.

  • Wave measurements using X-band radar have many advantages compared to other wave gauges including wave-rider buoy, P-u-v gauge and Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), etc.. For example, radar system has no risk of loss/damage in bad weather conditions, low maintenance cost, and provides spatial distribution of waves from deep to shallow water. This paper presents new methods for estimating significant wave heights of X-band marine radar images using Artificial Neural Network (ANN). We compared the time series of estimated significant wave heights (Hs) using various estimation methods, such as signal-to-noise ratio (${\sqrt{SNR}}$), both and ${\sqrt{SNR}}$ the peak period (TP), and ANN with 3 parameters (${\sqrt{SNR}}$, TP, and Rval > k). The estimated significant wave heights of the X-band images were compared with wave measurement using ADCP(AWC: Acoustic Wave and Current Profiler) at Hujeong Beach, Uljin, Korea. Estimation of Hs using ANN with 3 parameters (${\sqrt{SNR}}$, TP, and Rval > k) yields best result.

  • Various studies have been conducted on cloud observation using all-sky images acquired with a wide-angle camera system since the early 21st century, but it is judged that an automatic observation system that can completely replace the eye observation has not been obtained. In this study, to verify the quantification of cloud observation, which is the final step of the algorithm proposed to automate the observation, the cloud distribution of the all-sky image and the corrected image were compared and analyzed. The reason is that clouds are formed at a certain height depending on the type, but like the retina image, the center of the lens is enlarged and the edges are reduced, but the effect of human learning ability and spatial awareness on cloud observation is unknown. As a result of this study, the average cloud observation error of the all-sky image and the corrected image was 1.23%. Therefore, when compared with the eye observation in the decile, the error due to correction is 1.23% of the observed amount, which is very less than the allowable error of the eye observation, and it does not include human error, so it is possible to collect accurately quantified data. Since the change in cloudiness due to the correction is insignificant, it was confirmed that accurate observations can be obtained even by omitting the unnecessary correction step and observing the cloudiness in the pre-correction image.

  • Recently, a number of deep-learning based land cover segmentation studies have been introduced. Some studies denoted that the performance of land cover segmentation deteriorated due to insufficient training data. In this study, we verified the improvement of land cover segmentation performance through data augmentation. U-Net was implemented for the segmentation model. And 2020 satellite-derived landcover dataset was utilized for the study data. The pixel accuracies were 0.905 and 0.923 for U-Net trained by original and augmented data respectively. And the mean F1 scores of those models were 0.720 and 0.775 respectively, indicating the better performance of data augmentation. In addition, F1 scores for building, road, paddy field, upland field, forest, and unclassified area class were 0.770, 0.568, 0.433, 0.455, 0.964, and 0.830 for the U-Net trained by original data. It is verified that data augmentation is effective in that the F1 scores of every class were improved to 0.838, 0.660, 0.791, 0.530, 0.969, and 0.860 respectively. Although, we applied data augmentation without considering class balances, we find that data augmentation can mitigate biased segmentation performance caused by data imbalance problems from the comparisons between the performances of two models. It is expected that this study would help to prove the importance and effectiveness of data augmentation in various image processing fields.

  • In this study, science teachers' NOS lessons were observed and the characteristics of the lessons were analyzed. Three science teachers who taught NOS in the 'Science Inquiry Experiment' developed under the 2015 revised curriculum participated in the study. Their NOS lessons were observed and interviews were conducted before and after lessons. The collected data were analyzed using analytical induction and constant comparative method. The analyses of the result revealed the teachers' naive views on NOS were also revealed during the lessons. There were some cases where they showed naive views during the lessons even if they showed informed views in the interviews. Although the domains of NOS taught by them were diverse, all of them taught 'tentativeness' and considered this an important goal. They tended to teach NOS with content related with their major, and teaching NOS was found to be deeply related to their major. In the activity where students learn NOS by inferring the unknown object, teachers disclosed the unknown object, which is unlike the rule of the activity. They thought that could help students' learning. At last, although they emphasized teaching NOS, they either did not assess NOS or assessed NOS in a limited way. Based on the results, some directions for teacher education and follow-up study are suggested.
