It is necessary to minimize the mismatch of sintering shrinkage between dielectric ceramic and Ni inner electrode layers for the purpose of developing the ultra high-capacity multi layered ceramic condenser(MLCC). Thus, low temperature sintering of dielectric $BaTiO_3$ ceramic should be precedently investigated. In this work, the influence of the milling condition on sintering behavior and electrical properties of $BaTiO_3$ ceramics was investigated in the $BaTiO_3$(BT)-Mg-Dy-Mn-Ba system with borosilicate glass as a sintering agent. As milling time increased, specific surface area(SSA) of the powder increased linearly, while both sinterability and dielectric property were found to be drastically decreased with an increasing SSA. It was also revealed that the sinterability of the excessively milled $BaTiO_3$ ceramics could be recovered by increasing Ba content, rather than increasing glass addition. These results suggest that the sintering behavior of $BaTiO_3$ ceramics under the high SSA was more strongly dependent on the transient liquid phase caused by Ba addition, than the liquid phase from additional glass.

In this paper, for the application of ultrasonic cleaners for cleaning dentures and transparent braces, Pb(Mn1/3Nb2/3)O3-Pb(Ni1/3 Nb2/3)O3-Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 [PMN-PNN-PZT] system ceramics were manufactured and their dielectric and piezoelectric properties were investigated. Overall the best properties suitable for the device applications such as ultrasonic cleaner were obtained from the ceramics sintered at 920℃: bulk density of 7.8 g/cm3, the dielectric constant (εr) of 1,689, piezoelectric charge constant (d33) of 433 pC/N, planar electromechanical coupling factor (kp) of 0.64, mechanical quality factor (Qm) of 835, S11E of 13.37 (10-12 N/m2), and Curie temperature of 315℃ By using the physical properties of this composition, the ultrasonic cleaner was designed and simulated using the commercial ATILA software. For the three-layered ceramics with the dimension of 25 mm × 25 mm × 2.5mm, an excellent displacement of 8.998 10-3 m) and the sound pressure of 147.68 dB were recorded.
PURPOSE. The most common failure seen in restorations with a zirconia core is total or layered delamination of the ceramic veneer. In the present study, the shear bond strengths between veneering ceramics and colored zirconia oxide core materials were evaluated. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Zirconia discs ($15{\times}12{\times}1.6mm$) were divided into 11 groups of 12 discs each. Groups were colored according to the Vita Classic scale: A3, B1, C4, D2, and D4. Each group was treated with the recommended shading time for 3 s, or with prolonged shading for 60 s, except for the control group. Samples were veneered with 3 mm thick and 3.5 mm in diameter translucent ceramic and subjected to shear test in a universal testing machine with a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's HSD tests were used for comparisons of the groups having the same shading times. A paired t-test was used for groups of the same color (3 s/60 s). RESULTS. Among the 11 groups investigated C4 (3 s) had the highest bond strength with a value of 36.40 MPa, while A3 (3 s) showed the lowest bond strength with a value of 29.47 MPa. CONCLUSION. Coloring procedures can affect zirconia/ceramic bond strength. However, the results also showed that bond strengths of all the investigated groups were clinically acceptable.

[ $SrTiO_3$ ] is usually added as shifters in order to move the $T_C$ of $BaTiO_3$ to lower temperatures because it is well established that the $T_C$ of $BaTiO_3$ decreases linearly with a solid solution of $Sr^{+2}$ in place of $Ba^{+2}$. It is not fully understood yet, however, how $SrTiO_3$ influences on the peak value of the dielectric constant $(\varepsilon_{max})$ at the $T_C$ of $BaTiO_3$. This research reports the effect of $SrTiO_3$ addition on εmax at the $T_C$ of $BaTiO_3$ ceramics. Based on the chemical composition and the grain size dependence of the dielectric property of $BaTiO_3$ ceramics, functionally graded $(Ba,Sr)TiO_3$ composites were designed and fabricated. Multi-layered $(Ba,Sr)TiO_3$ composites with a compositional gradient of $SrTiO_3$ exhibited a low temperature coefficient and high dielectric constant in a wide temperature range.
The ballistic capability of an alumina-rich oxide armor ceramic against a shaped jet was characterized as a function of penetration depth in a layered target structure. The penetration resistance of the ceramic, based upon the determination of penetration velocity, was not equally realized throughout the depth of penetration. It was abnormally low at an early stage of penetration, followed by a sudden increase to reach ~16GPa thereafter. There was no apparent change in such a profile with respect to the lateral size of the specimen. Based upon 2-D flash x-ray radiography and 3-D Hull code simulation, the feasibility of forming a pressure-induced predamnaged zone in front of the jet tip was speculated to foster an increased penetration velocity in the initial stage penetration, resulting in the diminished penetration resistance. The disappearance of such a predamaged zone with penetration was interpreted to restore the resistance of the ceramic in the later penetration stage.

Low-temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC) have turned out to be very promising technology in accordance with the rapid developments in semiconductor technology. The demands for compact electrical assemblies, smaller power loss as well as high signal density can be fulfilled by LTCC. And for the multi-layered ceramic devices with embedded passive components such as high dielectric constant decoupling capacitor, LTCC materials require the several conditions to avoid delamination and internal cracks. For the present study, diopside-based glass is chosen as the LTCC substrate material in view of its high coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). From the experimental resultsn the influence of each element on the CTE change can be revealed.

This paper presents a new sort of multilayer piezoelectric ceramic transformer for switching regulation power supplies. This piezoelectric transformer operate in the second thickness resonant vibration mode. Accordingly its resonant frequency is higher than 1 NHz, Because output power is low if input and output part of transformer are consisted of single layer, this research suggests a new method, which is consisted of both input and output part of transformer have 2-layered piezoelectric ceramics, The size of transformer is 20 mm in width and length, and 1.4 mm in thickness, respectively, To design a high efficient switching circuit of the transformer, internal circuit parameters were measured and then weve calculated a parameter of inductor nd capacitor to design a driving circuit, Weve used a MISFET and its driver circuit modified a calp oscillator circuit as the primary switching circuit.
Porcelain is the first ceramic material to be introduced into dentistry. Porcelain jacket crown was introduced by Dr. Charles H Land in 1886, which was an excellent aesthetic dental restoration but has not been widely used due to high firing shrinkage and low tensile strength. Then metal-ceramic system, which combines the esthetic properties of ceramics and the mechanical properties of metals, was introduced and nowadays it is still used in dental clinical field. However, the metal-ceramic system has shown some problems, such as increased lightness by reflection of light at opaque layer, shadow beneath the gingival line due to the block-out of light by metal coping, exposure of metal in margin part, bond failure between metal and porcelain, oxidation of metal coping during firing the porcelain, etc. Recently, along with the advance of fabrication methods of dental ceramics, the all-ceramic restorations with high esthetic and mechanical properties has increased and gradually replaced metal-ceramic restorations. Especially, CAD/CAM technology has opened a new era in fabricating the dental ceramic restorations. This overview will take a look at the past, present and future possibility of the dental ceramic materials.

High-pressured jetting is now widely used in the advanced cutting processes of polymers, metals, glass, ceramics and composite materials because of some advantages such as heatless and non-contacting cutting. Similarly to the focused laser beam machining, it is well known as a type of high-density energy processes. High-pressured jetting is going to be developed not only to minimize the cutting line width but also to achieve the short cutting time as soon as possible. However, the interaction behavior between a work piece and high-velocity abrasive particles during the high-pressured jet cutting makes the impact mechanism even more complicated. Conventional high-pressured jetting is still difficult to apply to precision cutting of micro-scaled thin work piece such as thin metal sheets, thin ceramic substrates, thin glass plates and TMM (Thin multi-layered materials). In this paper, we proposed the advanced high-pressured jetting technology by introducing a new abrasives supplying method and investigated the optimal process conditions of the cutting pressure, the cutting velocity and SOD (Standoff distance).

To fabricate a multi-layered piezoelectrics/electrodes structure, the piezoelectrics should be sintered at the temperature lower than $950^{\circ}C$ to use the silver electrode, which is cheaper than the electrodes containing noble metals such as Pd and Pt. Therefore, in this study, we modified the composition of $Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3$-based material as $(Pb_{0.98}Cd_{0.02})(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_{0.25}Zr_{0.35}Ti_{0.4}O_3$ to lower the sintering temperature and to improve the piezoelectric properties. Small amount of $MnCO_3$, $SiO_2$, and $Pb_3O_4$ were also added to lower the sintering temperature of the ceramic. The prepared raw powders were mixed by using a ball mill for 24 hours. And then the mixed powders were calcinated for 2 hours at $800^{\circ}C$. The calcinated powders were again crushed with the ball mill for 72 hours. The final powders were pressed for making the shape of ${\emptyset}15\;mm$ disk. The disk-type samples were sintered at temperature range of $850{\sim}950^{\circ}C$. The crystal phases of the sintered specimens were perovskite structure without secondary phases. All of the measured electrical properties such as electromechanical coupling coefficients ($k_p$), mechanical quality factors ($Q_m$), and piezoelectric charge constants ($d_{33}$) were decreased with decreasing the sintering temperatures. The electrical properties measured at the sample sintered at $950^{\circ}C$ were 54% of $k_p$, 503 of $Q_m$, and 390 pC/N of $d_{33}$, respectively. These properties were considered to be fairly good for the application of multi-layered piezoelectric generators or actuators.
