터널화재시 자연환기에 의한 연기거동에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study of Smoke Movement in Tunnel Fires with Natural Ventilation)

  • In this study, reduced-scale experiments were conducted to analyze smoke movement in tunnel fire with roof vent. The 1/20 scale experiments were carried out under the Froude scaling using gasoline pool fire ranging from 7.3 to 15.4 cm in diameter with total heat release rate from 1.0 to 8.46kw. In case of 1 m high vent, smoke front reached to the tunnel exit at about 16 sec delayed with ventilation. The delay time grew longer with the vent height. The temperature after the vent was lower than that without the vent. The exit temperature declined maximum of $20^{\circ}C$ after passing the vent. It was confirmed that the thickness of smoke layer was maintained uniformly under the 25% height of the tunnel through the visualized smoke now by a laser sheet and the digital camcorder.

저온공정 n-InGaAs Schottky 접합의 구조적 특성 (Structural Analysis of Low Temperature Processed Schottky Contacts to n-InGaAs)

  • The barrier height is found to increase from 0.25 to 0.690 eV for Schottky contacts on n-InGaAs using deposition of Ag on a substrate cooled to 77K(LT). Surface analysis leads to an interface model for the LT diode in which there are oxide compounds of In:O and As:O between the metal and semiconductor, leading to behavior as a metal-insulator-semiconductor diode. The metal film deposited t LT has a finer and more uniform structure, as revealed by scanning electron microscopy and in situ metal layer resistance measurement. This increased uniformity is an additional reason for the barrier height improvement. In contrast, the diodes formed at room temperature exhibit poorer performance due to an unpassivated surface and non-uniform metal coverage on a microscopic level.

축대칭 하향단 흐름에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Flow Behind an Axisymmetric Backward-Facing Step)

  • Local mean fluctuating velocity components were measured in the separating and reattaching axisymmetrc region of turbulent boundary layer over the wall of convex cylinders placed in a water tunnel by using 2-color 4-beam fiber optics laser Doppler velocimetry. Measurements were made with three different diameters of cylinders with four different diameters of cylinders with four different diameter of the obstructions. The range of Reynolds number based on step height was between 5,000 to 25,200. The study demonstrates that the reattachment length decreases with decreasing cylinder radius and is always shorter than that for the two-dimensional backward-facing step flow at the condition of the same step height. It was also observed that the turbulent kinetic energy in the recirculating region increases with an increases in the radius of convex curvature. The measured velocity field suggests that the transverse curvature can effect definitely the formation of corner eddy.

  • In coflow jets with relatively large size nozzle and low fuel jet velocity, the buoyancy effect arises from the density difference between fuel and air streams. The present study investigated the behavior of such a buoyant cold Jet both numerically and experimentally, especially when the fuel stream has higher density than air. It has been demonstrated that the cold jet has a circular cone shape since upwardly injected fuel jet decelerates and forms a stagnation region, when the fuel jet was composed of propane highly diluted with nitrogen. When the fuel was moderately diluted, numerical results showed the Kelvin-Helmholtz type instability along the mixing layer of the jet. The stagnation height increases nonlihearly with fuel jet velocity with the power of approximately 1.64.

  • Using the $O_2$ RIE process, 20{\mu}m$-height polyimide microstructures are fabricated. In LIGA-like process, metal microstructure can be formed by the electroplating using these polyimide microstructures as a plating mould. Reactive ion Etching technique using oxygen gas is used for the patterning of polyimide. The etching rate of the polyimide is increased with increased pressure and RF power. The anisotropic vertical sidewall can be obtained at low pressure, but the etched surface state is not so good yet. "Micrograss", which is formed during the RIE and disturbs uniform electroplating, can be removed effectively by the wet itching of the chromium sacrificial layer. More studies about the improvement of an etched surface state and the removal of microsgrass are needed.

Micromagnetic Modeling of Spin-valve MR Head with Synthetic Antiferromagnet (SyAF)

  • MR transfer behaviors of the permanent magnet biased spin valve MR sensors with SyAF (synthetic antiferromagnet) layers were studied by micromagnetics modeling. For narrow track MR heads, various height to width ratios were considered together with strength of permanent magnets which stabilities the free layed As the MR sensor width is reduced to $0.12 \mu{m}$, sensor height less than 0.09 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ is needed to show good linearity and the Mr.t of permanent magnets smaller than 0.2 memu/$cm^2$ is sufficient for the domain stabilization. The conditions for single domain behavior of the free layer were also investigated through optimizing the biasing strength of permanent magneto the shield gap and the aspect ratio of MR sensor.

EFFECTS OF FORMING PROCESS ON SEALING PERFORMANCE OF FULL-BEAD OF MLS GASKET: FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS APPROACH

  • A full-bead of multi-layer-steel (MLS) engine head gasket is used to seal the combustion gas. Finite element analyses were conducted to assess the dependence of the sealing performance of full-bead on the forming process consisting of embossing and flatting operations. It is demonstrated that the sealing performance is enhanced with more severe deformation of the bead plate during the embossing, i.e., with the increase in the punching depth, the punch height, the punch width and the friction coefficient of the bead plate against the punch and die, and with the decrease in the width of die cavity. Meanwhile, the flatting process that is employed to adjust the height of the embossed full-bead has no influence on the sealing performance.

  • An experimental study is performed to investigate the characteristics of near wake behind a circular cylinder with serrated fins using the constant temperature anemometer and through flow visualization. Previous report(Boo at al., 2001) shows that there are three different modes in vortex shedding behavior. This paper is focused on the identification of the physical reasons why the difference is occured in vortex shedding. The through flow velocity crossing fins decreases as increasing fin height and decreasing fin pitch mainly due to the flow resistence. Vortex shedding is affected strongly by velocity distribution around fin tube, especially by the velocity gradient. The velocity distribution at X/d=0.0 has lower gradient with increasing freestream velocity and fin height and decreasing fin pitch. Those differences in velocity gradients generate different vortex shedding mechanism.

Experimental Analysis of the Effect of integrated MEMS inductor on the 5GHz VCO performance

  • In this paper, MEMS inductor was integrated on a 5GHz VCO using BCB as low-k dielectric layer for MEMS inductor. The VCO core circuit is realized by IBM SiGe process. We varied the spiral inductor's suspension height and posit ion on circuit, and studied their circuit interference effect on VCO performance. The VCO with inductor placed on BCB with More height and the VCO with inductor that was not positioned above active area showed better characteristics.

보강재(補强材) 및 배수촉진재(排水促進材)로서 Geotextile 의 효과(効果)에 관한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究) (An Experimental Study on Geotextile Effects as Reinforcement and Vertical Drain Materials)

  • 본(本) 연구(硏究)에서는 연약점토지반(軟弱粘土地盤) 위에 성토시(盛土時) 보강재(補强材)와 vertical drain재(材)로서의 geotextile의 효과(効果)를 모형실험(模型實驗)을 통(通하)여 조사하였다. 실험은 점토층(粘土層)과 성토층(盛土層) 사이에 woven fabric을 포설(鋪設)하지 않은 경우, fabric을 포설(鋪設)한 경우, fabric에 서로 다른 인위적(人爲的) 인장력(引張力)을 가(加)한 2가지 경우 등 4단계(段階)로 수행(遂行)하였으며 각(各) 단계(段階)마다 압밀(壓密)을 촉진(促進)시키기 위해 non-woven fabric을 사용(使用)한 vertical drain을 점토층(粘土層) 내(內)에 정방형(正方形)으로 배치(配置)하였다. 실험(實驗)모델은 밑면이 $32cm{\times}330cm$이며, 50cm점토층(粘土層) 위에 47cm 높이의 성토제방(盛土堤防)이 1:1.5의 기울기로 만들어졌다. 모형실험대(模型實驗臺)의 양쪽 면에 대칭적(對稱的)으로 8개의 piezometer를 설치(設置)하여 시간(時間)에 따른 공극수압(空隙水壓)을 측정(測定)하였으며 성토제방(盛土堤防) 내부(內部)에 LED램프를 삽입(揷入)하여 시간(時間)에 따른 내부(內部) 변형(變形)을 조사하였고, 제방(堤防)이 설치(設置)되지 않은 점토지반(粘土地盤) 양쪽에는 dialgauge를 부착(附着)하여 융기현상(隆起現象)을 조사하였다. 이러한 실험(實驗)은 1차압밀(次壓密)에 요구(要求)되는 시간(時間)(약(約) 10일(日))동안 수행(遂行)되었다. 실험(實驗)으로부터 점토층(粘土層) 내(內)에 유발(誘發)된 최대과잉공극수압(最大過剩空隙水壓)을 측정(測定)하여 woven fabric을 포설(鋪設)하지 않은 경우의 이론적(理論的)인 최대과잉공극수압(最大過剩空隙水壓)과 비교(比較)함으로써 보강재(補强材)로서의 woven fabric을 포설(鋪設)하였을 경우에도 시간(時間)에 따른 성토부(盛土部) 침하량(沈下量)을 산정(算定)할 수 있음이 밝혀졌다.
