  • This study investigated the use of latex-modified sand concrete reinforced with sisal fibers (LMSC) as a repair material. Notably, no prior research has explored the application of LMSC for this purpose. This paper examines the interface bond strength and the type of failure between LMSC as a repair material and the normal concrete (NC) substrate utilising four different surfaces: without surface preparation as a reference (SR), hand hammer (HA), sandblasted (SB), and grooved (GR). The bond strength was measured by bi-surface shear, splitting tensile, and pull-off strength tests at 7, 28, and 90 days. Scanning electron microscopy analysis was also performed to study the microstructure of the interface between the normal concrete substrate and the latex-modified sand concrete reinforced with sisal fibers. The results of this study indicate that LMSC has bonding strength with NC, especially for HR and SB surfaces with high roughness. Therefore, substrate NC surface roughness is essential in increasing the bonding strength and adhesion. Eventually, The LMSC has the potential to repair and rehabilitate concrete structures.

  • Recently, very-early strength latex-modified concrete(below ; VES-LMC) has been developed for repairing and overlaying the old concrete bridge deck. VES-LMC provides the advantage of very-early-strength, as well as high flexural strength, bond strength, durability, resistance to corrosion, reduced water permeability and resistance to damage from freeze-thaw cycles. The compressive and flexural strength of VES-LMC are 21 MPa and 4.5 MPa at 3 hours after concrete placing, respectively. However, VES-LMC would have a relatively large shrinkage at early-age because of reduced water-cement ratio, big water self-dissipation, and rapid hydration reaction. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the early-age and restrained shrinkage of VES-LMC, having an experimental variables such as latex contents and cement types. The latex contents included 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%, and the cement types included ordinary portland cement and very-early strength cement.

  • Because of occuring easily the crack, debond, lutting on asphalts pavement of bredge decks under traffic's heavy weigt load. We investigated the application of latex modified concrete to resurface and repaire bridge decks for preventing the above problems. Here, Using the ordinary portland cement and high early cement, We rested mix design, workability, compressive strength, adhesive power, drying shrinkage, carbonation, and economic estimation etc. We selected the condition of application to resurface and repaire bridge decks and detected high early cement is superior to ordinary portland cement in results of analyzing the application of the repairing bridge decks and economic estimations.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of re-vibration and curing temperature onto the physical properties of latex-modified concrete with ordinary cement and rapid-setting cement, and thus to provide a guide line of re-vibration and curing conditions for good quality controls. The main experimental variables included two cement types(ordinary portland cement, rapid-setting cement), curing Temperature($10^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$), re-vibration methods(continued, intermittent), and re-vibration times(initial setting, one day after mixing). The experimental results showed that the re-vibration affected little to the mechanical properties of LMC and RSLMC, while, the curing temperature a quite some. The early strength development was the highest at $20^{\circ}C$ curing temperature, and decreased at higher temperature. The permeability of concrete generally decreased with curing time. The rapid chloride permeability was a function of time and temperature. The chloride permeability of RSLMC was so small and negligible.

  • Latex-modified concrete using ready mix concrete (R-LMC) was developed for application of building construction project (specifically, the rooftop of a parking garage unable to use heavy equipments for bridge deck overlay) due to three major outstanding properties of R-LMC; bond strength, resistance of cracks at early age, and resistance of freezing and thawing. However, R-LMC at the placement stage is required to be sufficiently cured because R-LMC is very sensitive to rate of evaporation of surface moisture. This study focused on effects of different curing methods and climate condition on cracks on the surface of hardened R-LMC considering the chart of rate of evaporation of surface moisture from concrete provided by American Concrete Institute in manual for placement of latex modified concrete.

  • Cracks on the surface of latex-modified concrete using ready mix concrete (R-LMC) are attributable to its sensitivity to air temperature, relative humidity and wind velocity. Insufficient curing under the windy condition causes plastic shrinkage cracks. The cracked areas should be replaced to prevent development of larger cracks. This paper investigated how the vibration resulted from crushing concrete for replacement of the partial cracked area affects bond strength of R-LMC at early age. To analyze bond strength of R-LMC, the commercial Finite Element (FE) program, ABAQUS Standard/Implicit version 6.12 was used, and bond strength was tested by ASTM C1583-04. The real vibration was applied to this FE model using an acceleration measurement equipment.

  • The latex modified concrete(LMC) was adds latex in the plain concrete as the latex has increase the durability of concrete. But it is added in LMC manufacture, which is a high price compares with different material and there is a weak point where the construction expense is very high. So, this study are decided mix proportion from the scope where the security strong point of LMC is possible and reduced the material expense by control the latex contents. and these mix proportions are estimated the chloride ion diffusion. The results of study appear that it can reduced the latex content until the $5{\sim}10$% of cements, and these mixtures are very low chloride ion diffusion.

  • This study is purposed to improve the performance of concrete made of recycled coarse aggregate. For this, recycled aggregate concrete was produced with SBR latex, and fluidity, dynamic performance and drying shrinkage were examined. According to the result, with mixing 6% of SBR latex, fluidity having resistance against segregation can be insured and compressive and flexural strength was increased. Especially the increment in terms of flexures was remarkable. In addition to, with above mixing ratio, drying shrinkage was reduced. Therefore there is a strong inference that superior recycled aggregate concrete can be produced with using 6% of SBR latex.

  • Each year, new technological advancements for repair-purpose are being introduced to overlay the old deterioration of RC bridge deck at highway by latex-modified concrete. The days may come when this old problem will be successfully resolved. While the experimental works and researches are very active at both laboratory and field, only a few theoretical studies were performed on interfacial problems, especially on stress distribution and concentration of RC beam overlayed by latex-modified concrete. The repaired and strengthened structures would induce a premature failure due to the stress concentration at the adhesive layer of different material before the design expected failure. This paper investigated and proposed an analytical model for predicting interfacial shear and normal stresses of RC beam repair-purpose overlayed by latex-modified concrete. This would be used for predicting interfacial stresses and preventing premature failure at interfaces. This study modified Smith-Teng method for applying to cementitious repairing material, which was based on a direct governing equation and linear-elastic approach for interfacial normal and shear stresses. The proposed theoretical model was verified using commercial FEA program, LUSAS, in terms of interfacial stresses predicted by the proposed model and calculated by LUSAS.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of blast-furnace slag on chemical attack and carbonation of latex-modified concrete (LMC) and ordinary portland cement concrete as slag contents. Main experimental variables were performed latex contents (0%, 15%) and slag contents (0%, 30%, 50%). The compressive strengths, chemical attacks resistance and carbonation depth were measured to analyze the characteristic of the developed LMC and BS-LMC(latex-modified concrete added blast-furnace slag) on hardened concrete. The test results showed that compressive strength of BS-LMC with blast-furnace slag content 30% was quite similar to it of OPC without slag content. The structural quality deterioration was concerned when blast slag content was up to 50%. However, carbonation restraint of BS-LMC with blast-furnace slag 30% was bigger then that of opc. Also, the effects of added latex on OPC and BS-LMC were increased on the carbonation restraint and chemical attacks resistance.
