  • Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) has been recently developed and widely used because it has advantage to be able to measure surface deformations of engineering components and materials in industrial areas with non-contact. The spekle patterns to be formed with interference phenomena of scattering phenomena measure the out-of-plane deformations, together with the use of digital image equipment to process the informations included in the speckle patterns and the display consequent interferogram on a computer monitor. In this study, the experimental results of a canti-levered plate using ESPI were compared with those obtained from the simple beam theory. The ESPI results of the canti-levered plate analyzed by 4-step phase shifting method are close to the theoretical expectation. Also, out-0of-plane displacements of a spot welded canti-levered plate were measured by ESPI with 4-step phase shifting technique. The phase map of the spot welded canti-levered plate is quite different from that of the canti-levered plate without spot welding.

Observation of the Vortex Interaction over an Yawed Delta Wing with Leading Edge Extension by Flow Visualization and 5-hole Probe Measurements (가시화와 5공 프로브 측정을 통한 연장된 앞전을 갖는 편요된 델타형 날개에서의 와류 상호작용 관찰)

  • An experimental study is conducted to investigate the interaction of vortices over a delta wing with leading edge extension(LEX) through the off-surface flow visualization and the 5-hole probe measurements of the wing wake region. Especially, the application of a new visualization technique is employed by ultrasonic humidifier water droplet and laser beam sheet. The results, both the off-surface visualization and the 5-hole probe, show that LEX tends to stabilize the vortices of the delta wing up to the high angle of attack even though the model is yawed. With increasing yaw, the windward leading edge vortex moves inward, and closer to the wing surface, while the leeward vortex moves outwards and away from the wing surface. The vortex interaction is promoted in the windward side, and is delayed in the leeward side.

  • Axiomatic Design has been developed as a general design framework during past two decades and TRIZ has been developed for a design tool over 50 years. Axiomatic design is quite excellent in that design should be decoupled. When a design matrix is established, the characteristics of the design are identified according to the coupling properties. If the design is coupled, a decoupling process should be found. However, axiomatic design does not specifically indicate how to decouple a coupled design. In this research, the coupling manner is classified into six patterns. Each pattern could be solved by an appropriate TRIZ module. A table, which matches the coupling pattern and a TRIZ module, is proposed for effective application of the two design theories. The decoupling ideas are proposed by using TRIZ modules. When the number of decoupled designs is more than one, the engineer should select the final idea. The proposed method is applied to practical cases such as a tape feeder and a beam adjuster of the laser marker.

  • Spray characteristics of the APU gas turbine engine were investigated. In order to understand blow out phenomena of the APU engine, we performed fuel spray test. In the test, four operating conditions such as sea level idle, sea level max power, 20,000 feet idle, 20,000 feet max power were used as spray experimental conditions. PDPA(phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) was used for measuring the particle diameter and velocity. Also spray visualization was performed by using ND-YAG sheet laser beam. From the test result, in the case of 20,000 feet idle condition, SMD is about 100 ${\mu}m$ and maximum particle velocity is about 10 m/s. For the flame stability, spray quality should be improved at 20,000 feet idle condition.

  • The structural analysis of polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) and characterization of the hydrolytic degradation products after acid hydrolysis were performed using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Mass spectra of the PTT samples were analyzed using a self-calibration method as well as an internal calibration method with standard materials of known masses. PTT structures constituting the samples were determined from the analyses of the spectra, and their relative compositions were estimated. The MALDI-TOF mass spectra of the acid-hydrolyzed PTT sample showed three main series of oligomer products with different end groups in accordance with the hydrolysis schemes. From the spectra of both $Na^+$ and $K^+$ adducts, it was concluded that the PTT samples have higher affinity for $Na^+$ compared with $K^+$ and therefore show higher ionization efficiency with sodium ions when dithranol is used as a matrix. Two different wavelength laser beams ($\lambda$ = 337 nm and 355 nm) were tested and it was observed that the 355 nm beam was more efficient in obtaining the MALDI spectra of PTT using dithranol as a matrix under our experimental conditions.

  • Test models which have geometrical similarities with a real room air conditioner (RAC) have been manufactured including visualization windows so that a laser beam can pass through a cross flow fan. Then, flow distributions of the RAC have been investigated using a visualization technique such as a Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) to analyze an efficiency and noise of the RAC. Pitot tubes have also been used to measure the flow velocity inside the RAC with various positions to confirm the measurement accuracy of the PIV technique. The measured flow velocities have been analyzed and new designs of the RAC have been proposed to improve the efficiency and to reduce the noise for the RAC in this study.

  • We theoretically investigated the far-field radiation pattern of epi-signal from a polystyrene sphere in coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy with an objective lens of high numerical aperture. We calculated the field distribution of the incident laser beams under the tight-focusing condition and the far-field radiation pattern through coherent addition of radiation from the nonlinear polarizations (Hertzian dipoles) as the origin of CARS signal generation. The epi-radiation patterns for polystyrene spheres of different diameters are calculated, and the pattern of a sphere is also compared with that of a shell fer a diameter of 1100 nm. We finally show how the radiation pattern of the polystyrene sphere changes as the center of the sphere shifts from the focus of the beam.

Visualization of Vortex Flow over a Delta Wing with LEX (LEX를 갖는 삼각날개의 와유동 가시화)

  • The development and interaction of vortices over a delta wing with leading edge extension (LEX) was investigated through off-surface flow visualization using micro water droplets and a laser beam sheet. Angles of attack of $20^{\circ}$ and 24$^{\circ}$ were tested at sideslip angles of $0^{\circ}$, $-5^{\circ}$, and $-10^{\circ}$ The flow Reynolds number based on the main-wing root chord was $1.82{\times}10^{5}$. The wing vortex and the LEX vortex coiled around each other while maintaining comparable strength and identity at a zero sideslip. The increase of angle of attack intensified the coiling and shifted the cores of the wing and LEX vortices inboard and upward. By sideslip, the coiling, the merging and the diffusion of the wing and LEX vortices were increased on the windward side, whereas they were delayed significantly on the leeward side. The present study confirmed that the sideslip angle had a profound effect on the vortex structure and interaction of a delta wing with LEX, which characterized the vortex-induced aerodynamic load.

초정밀가공 기술의 현황과 전망

  • 마이크로 일렉트로닉스(Microelectronics)를 중심으로 하는 산업혁명이 진행되고 있는 시점에서 전자, 광학 또는 신소재 부품에 대한 형상과 치수 또는 표면거칠기에 대한 정확도와 정밀도가 엄격하게 요구되고 있다. 예를 들어 경취 재료인 반도체의 웨이화( w-afer), 수정진동자 자기헷트, 비구면렌즈 또는 연질 금속의 레이저빔(Laser Beam) 프린터 용 포리곤 밀러(Polygon Mirror), 자기디스크, 복사기용 드럼(drum), 레저기기용 반사밀러 등 가공정밀도를 향상시키기 위해서는 과거의 가공기술을 대치할 수 있는 새로운 초정밀가공 기술의 도입이 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 경취성 재료의 초정밀가공은 지금까지는 랩핑(lappi- ng), 폴리싱(polishing)의 가공기술이 주체였으나, 최근의 엄격한 부품정밀도에 대응하기 위하여 전가공을 초정밀 연삭가공으로 평면도,표면거칠기, 가공변질층을 향상시키고 다듬질 가공은 폴리싱으로 하여 표면거칠기를 향상시켜야 하는 가공기술이 보급되고 있다. 일반연질 금속의 다듬질가공은 유리지립을 이용하는 랩핑이나 폴리싱으로 다듬질 가공을 진행하고 있었 으나 형상정도와 표면정밀도를 동시에 얻는다는 것이 어렵고 또 가공시간이 너무 길어서 매우 고가인 것이 되고 말았다. 그러나 유리에서 연질금속으로 재료를 전환시키고 저가격화, 양산 화의 요구, 정밀도 향상과 부품의 안정화 등등 여러 이유로서 다아아몬드(Diamond) 공구로 mirror surface 를 만드는 초정밀 경면연삭 가공기술(precision turning with diamond)의 발달 로 이제는 완전히 새로운 가공기술로 대치되고 말았다. 다이아몬드에 의한 초정밀절삭은 공구 끝이 매우 예리하고 마모가 매우 적은 단결정 다이아몬드를 이용하고 절삭가공 기계는 운동정도 를 피가공물에 정확히 전사 시키는 방법이며 따라서 가공기계는 고도의 운동정밀도가 요구되며 그외에 강성, 진동, 열변이, 제어면에서 엄격한 검도가 있어야 한다.

Verification on Diffusion of Beam Propagation in Randomly Distributed Scattering Medium (무질서하게 분포된 산란매질에서 빔전파의 확산에 관한 검증)

  • The distribution of light in a randomly scattering medium can represent problems found in many area. Particularly, in the clinical application of lasers for Photodynamic therapy(PDT) or in the fluorescence spectroscopy for biological tissue, turbidity plays a very important role. The influences of fluorophor, scatterer, and absorber in turbid material by light scattering were interpreted for the scattered fluorescence intensity and wavelength. The molecular properties have been studied by laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy in scattering medium as tissue. It has been found that the effects of optical properties in scattering media could be investigated by the optical $parameters({\mu}_s$, ${\mu}_a$ ,${\mu}t)$. Experimental and Monte Carlo simulation method for modelling light transport in tissue was applied. The experimental results using a randomly distributed scattering medium were discussed and compared with those obtained through Monte Carlo simulation. It'll be also important in designing the best model for oil chemistry, medicine and application of medical engineering.
