  • Weldability is largely dependent on the phase evolution and the microstructure of the weld. For the weldability of the $Cu_{54}Ni_6Zr_{22}Ti_{18}$ bulk metallic glass, the crystallization affects the sensitivity of the weld to the brittle failure. In order to suppress the irreversible crystallization, Nd:YAG laser welding was chosen. The pulsed Nd:YAG laser was irradiated onto the BMG plate and the effects of the pulse shape [peak power intensity and pulse duration time] on the crystallinity were evaluated.

Crystal Growth of Nd:YAG for 1.06$\mu m$ Lasers

  • Nd:YAG crystals were grown by Horizontal Bridgman method. The effects of sliding rate (growth rate) of Molydbenum container, growth atmosphere and concentration of Neodymium ions on crystal qualities were investigated. The size of the crystals grown was up to 150-200 mm in length, 70 mm in width and 25-35 mm in thickness. Crystals grown under the optimum conditions were violet, transparent and could not be observed any macroscopic defects. Under the polarizing microscopoc observations with crossed polar, striations, {211} facets and inclusions were detected. With the grown crystals, prototypes of laser rods for 1.06$\mu$m laser application were manufactured and then characterized. As a result, we can get high quality of Nd:YAG laser rods with <111> and <110> axis, 63 mm in length and6.3 mm in diameter.

  • The influence of fluorophor, scatterer, absorber in turbid materials by light scattering were interpreted for the scattered fluorescence intensity and wavelength, it is studied the molecular property by laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy. It can be found that the effects of optical property are penentrated in scattering media by the optical $parameters({\mu}s$, ${\mu}a$, ${\mu}t$, ${\gamma}$, ${\rho})$. The value of scattering coefficient ${\mu}s$ is large appeared by means of the increasing particles of scattering, it can be found that the slope appears exponentially as a function of distance from laser source to detector. It may also utilize in designing the best model for oil chemistry, laser medicine and application of medical engineering.

  • Magnesium alloys have many advantages such as a low density, high strength/weight ratio and well recycle. And joining process is absolutely necessary to expand the field of application of magnesium alloy. The main problems of conventional process such as arc welding for magnesium alloy are the inflammability, a tendency toward crack formation and the appearance of porosity during solidification. Laser welding technology is a promising means for overcoming these difficulties. This study is related to the laser weldability of AZ31 magnesium alloy, an all-purpose wrought alloy with good strength and ductility. The effect of welding conditions on the weldability of butt joints was examined. Also, the mechanical properties of butt welded joints were investigated by tensile test and hardness test.

  • 최근 투명 디스플레이 및 유연 소자의 활용도가 증가함에 따라 우수한 유연성과 강성을 갖는 폴리머 소재 기판의 사용이 증가하고 있다. 그러나 폴리머는 열에 취약하여 공정 중 온도 및 열 제어가 필수적이다. 이러한 폴리머 기판 활용의 단점을 해결하기 위해 본 연구에서는 레이저 기반의 선택적 가공 기술에 적용할 수 있는 폴리머 기판 내 레이저 가공영역의 온도 측정 시스템을 제안한다. 레이저 가공 영역의 국부적인 온도 변화 측정을 통해 폴리머 기판의 공정 조건을 최적화하는 가능성을 제시한다. 이를 위해 플랑크 흑체 복사 원리를 기반으로 한 PDPT(Photodiode based Planck Thermometry)를 설계 및 제작하여 레이저가 입사되는 영역의 온도를 측정하였다. PDPT는 비파괴/비접촉식 온도측정 시스템으로, 레이저가 입사되는 국부적인 온도 상승을 실시간으로 측정할 수 있다. 해당 시스템을 활용하여 폴리머 기판의 레이저 가공 공정에서 발생하는 가공영역의 온도 변화를 관측하였다. 본 연구 결과, 제안된 레이저 기반 온도측정 기술은 레이저 가공 공정 중 실시간 온도 측정이 가능하며, 이를 통해 최적의 생산 조건을 확립할 가능성을 보여주고 있다. 또한, 해당 기술은 열 제어가 필수적인 미세 레이저 가공 및 3차원 프린팅과 같은 다양한 레이저 기반 공정에 적용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • The application of laser in pipelines was started from the base of using laser in nuclear facilities industries and power plants. Because laser can be delivered to a remote area without any difficulties, the application of laser in many industries can solve many difficulties from limitation of access in danger area and reduced the risks of workers. Therefore, we developed a new experimental technique to measure internal defects of pressure vessels with a combination of shearog-raphy and image processing technique. Conventional NDT methods have been taken relatively much time, money and manpower because of performing as the method of contact with objects to be inspected. But digital shearography is laser-based optical method which allows full-field observation of surface displacement derivatives. This method has many advantages in practical use, such as low sensitivity to environmental noise, simple optical configuration and real time mea-surement. In this paper, we find the optimum shearing magnitude with EFM and experiment and measured internal crack length of the pressure vessels at a real time and estimated the error of the results.

  • Laser heat treatment is an effective technique used to improve the tribological properties and also to increase the service life of automobile components such as camshafts, crankshatfs, lorry brake drums and gears. High power $CO_2$ lasers and Nd:YAG lasers are employed for localized hardening of materials and hence are of potential application in the automobile industries. The heat is conducted rapidly into the bulk of the specimen causing self-quenching action to occur and the formation of matrensitic structure. In this investigation, the microstructrual features occurring in Nd:YAG laser hardening SM45C and $STD_11$ steel are discussed with the use of optical microscopic and scanning electron microscopic analysis. Moreover, This paper describes the optimisation of the processing parameters for maximum hardened depth of SM45C and $STD_11$ steel specimens of 10mm thickness by using CW:YAG laser.

  • Nowadays, most automotives companies are making use of laser welding in car body assembly shop. But even though laser welding is better than resistance spot welding in many points, its application has been limited to special technology for manufacturing. The paper introduces in the field of remote welding system(RWS) to improve the process efficiency of laser welding. Positioning time of RWS between welding stitches are dramatically reduced to zero. It is a kind of solutions to generalize laser welding in mass production.

Application of 532 nm YAG-Laser Annealing to Crystallization of Amorphous Si Thin Films Deposited on Glass Substrates

  • A 532 nm Nd-YAG laser was applied to crystallize amorphous Si thin films in order to evaluate the applicability of a Nd-YAG laser to low-temperature polycrystalline Si technology. The irradiation of a green laser was controlled during the crystallization of amorphous Si thin films deposited onto glass substrates in a sophisticated process. Raman spectroscopy and UV-Visible spectrophotometry were employed to quantify the degree of crystallization in the Si thin films in terms of its optical transmission and vibrational characteristics. The effectiveness of the Nd-YAG laser is suggested as a feasible alternative that is capable of crystallizing the amorphous Si thin films.
