Purpose: This research evaluated five types of nanoparticles to develop a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) method for the rapid detection of two Bacillus species (Bacillus cereus and Bacillus thuringiensis) that are commonly found on fresh produce, which can cause food poisoning. Methods: Bacterial concentrations were adjusted to a constant turbidity, and a total of $30{\mu}L$ of each Bacillus cell suspension was prepared for each nanoparticle. A point-scan Raman system with laser light source of wavelength 785 nm was used to obtain SERS data. Results: There was no qualitative difference in the SERS data of B. cereus and B. thuringiensis for any of the five nanoparticles. Three gold nanoparticles, stabilized in either citrate buffer or ethanol, showed subtle differences in Raman intensities of two Bacillus species at $877.7cm^{-1}$. Conclusions: Among the three types of nanoparticles, the gold nanoparticles stabilized in citrate buffer showed the lowest standard deviation, followed by gold nanoparticles stabilized in ethanol. This result supports the potential application of gold nanoparticles for SERS-based detection of B. cereus and B. thuringiensis.
Purpose: To investigate the correlation between the amount of salivary metal ions released from fixed prostheses and the period of restoration insertion, and to evaluate the correlation between the type and amount of metal ions in saliva and oral lesions (OL). Methods: Based on the oldest prosthesis, we divided patients into two groups: more than 5 years (n=19) and less than 5 years (n=10). Patients were also divided into two groups by another criteria: the one with the presence (n=15), and the one with absence (n=14) of OL, and the amounts of metal ions were examined. Metal ions-gold (Au), copper, cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), nickel, zinc, aluminum, palladium (Pd), tin, and platinum (Pt)-were measured using laser ablation microprobe inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Results: Significantly higher quantities of Co, Pt, and Pd ions were released in patients with fixed prosthesis of more than 5 years (p<0.05). Measurement of the average amount of salivary metal ions was performed on patients with and without OL - Significantly higher amounts of Cr, Pd and Au ions were released in patients with OL (p<0.05). Conclusions: Old prostheses (${\geq}5years$) released metal ions, and among them were Co, Pt and Pd ions more than others. Patients with OL showed significantly higher levels of ion release, especially Cr, Pd and Au. There was a positive correlation between the amount of a certain kind of released metal ions, especially Pd, and the development of OL. Salivary Pd ion released from old prostheses could affect the pathogenesis of OL; therefore, long-term follow-up is important.

STS 316L prepared by additive manufacturing (AM) exhibits deterioration of mechanical properties and wear resistance due to the presence of defects such as black-of-fusion defects, internal porosity, residual stress, and anisotropy. In addition, high surface roughness (integrity) of AM products remains an issue. This study aimed to apply ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification (UNSM) technology to STS 316L prepared by AM to increase the surface hardness, to reduce the surface roughness, and to improve the friction and wear behavior to the level achieved by bulk material manufactured using traditional processes. Herein, the as-received and polished specimens were treated by UNSM technology and their resulting properties were compared and discussed. The results showed that UNSM technology increased the surface hardness and reduced the surface roughness of the as-received and polished specimens. These results can be attributed to grain size refinement and pore elimination from the surface. Moreover, the friction of the as-received and polished specimens after UNSM technology was lower compared to those of the as-received and polished specimens, but no significant differences in wear resistance were found.
Bovine milk is widely consumed by humans and is a primary ingredient of dairy foods. Proteomic approaches have the potential to elucidate complex milk proteins and have been used to study milk of various species. Here, we performed a proteomic analysis using 2-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) and matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometer (MALDI-TOF MS) to identify whey proteins in bovine milk obtained soon after parturition (bovine early milk). The major casein proteins were removed, and the whey proteins were analyzed with 2-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-D PAGE). The whey proteins (2 mg) were separated by pI and molecular weight across pH ranges of 3.0 - 10.0 and 4.0 - 7.0. The 2-DE gels held about 300 to 700 detectable protein spots. We randomly picked 12 and nine spots that were consistently expressed in the pH 3.0 - 10.0 and pH 4.0 - 7.0 ranges, respectively. Following MALDI-TOF MS analysis, the 21 randomly selected proteins included proteins known to be present in bovine milk, such as albumin, lactoferrin, serum albumin precursor, T cell receptor, polymeric immunoglobulin receptor, pancreatic trypsin inhibitor, aldehyde oxidase and microglobulin. These proteins have major functions in immune responses, metabolism and protein binding. In summary, we herein identified both known and novel whey proteins present in bovine early milk, and our sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) analysis revealed their expression pattern.
In this exploration, the nuclear magnetic resonance of the $^{207}Pb$ nucleus in $PbWO_4:Mn^{2+}$ and $PbWO_4:Dy^{3+}$ Single Crystals using FT-NMR spectrometer is investigated. The line width of the resonance line for the $^{207}Pb$ nucleus decreases as temperature increases due to motional narrowing. The chemical shift of $^{207}Pb$ NMR spectra also increases as temperature decreases for both crystals. The spinlattice relaxation times $T_1$ of $^{39}K$ nucleus were calculated as a function of temperature (180 K~400 K). The $T_1$ of $^{207}Pb$ nucleus decreases as temperature increases. The dominant relaxation mechanism at the studied temperature range can be deduced as the Raman process, which is the coupling between lattice vibrations and the nuclear spins. This deduction is substantiated by the fact that the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ of the $^{207}Pb$ nucleus in $PbWO_4:Mn^{2+}$ and $PbWO_4:Dy^{3+}$ single crystal is proportional to $T^2$, or temperature squared. The activation energies for the $^{207}Pb$ nucleus in $PbWO_4:Mn^{2+}$ and $PbWO_4:Dy^{3+}$ single crystals are $E_a=49{\pm}1meV$ and $E_a=47{\pm}2meV$, respectively.

For the upper air observations, a temperature measurement using radiosonde is a common method, and the compensation of solar radiation effects in the radiosonde temperature sensor is an important factor. In this paper, we present various experiments and compensation methods of the radiosonde temperature sensor to overcome the errors caused by the movement of the radiosonde rotation, etc. The methods and procedures of this study are as follows. First, we used the solar simulator to analyze the temperature variation and solar effect of the temperature sensor in the radiosonde according to the insolation. We also analyzed the temperature variation and solar effect of the temperature sensor according to the incident angle between the solar simulator and radiosonde. Second, we measured and analyzed solar radiation absorbed by solar cells attached to radiosonde. Third, we present combined compensate solution of the first and the second experiment results, to overcome errors caused by insolation effects in the radiosonde temperature sensors. Fourth, we compared that the reference temperature in similar environment with the upper air conditions, to verify the new radiated compensation performance of the radiosonde temperature sensor. Finally, the radiosonde fabricated in this study was raised to the atmosphere, and the laser correction algorithm proposed through experiments was reviewed. As a result of the radiosonde SRS-10 produced in this study, the temperature deviation from Vaisala RS92 was $0.057^{\circ}C$ in nighttime observation, $0.17^{\circ}C$ in daytime observation, It is expected that the GRUAN under WMO will be able to obtain a high test rating of 5.0.
While it is important to obtain the accurate information on snowfall data due to the increase in damage caused by the heavy snowfall in the winter season, it is not easy to observe the snowfall quantitatively. Recently, snow measurements using a weighing precipitation gauge have been carried out, but there is a problem that high snowfall intensity results in low accuracy. Also, the observed snowfall data are sensitive depending on wind speed, temperature, and humidity. In this study, a new process of quality control for snow water equivalent (SWE) data of the weighing precipitation gauge were proposed to cover the low accuracy of snow data and maximize the data utilization. Snowfall data (SWE) observed by Pluvio, Parsivel, snow-depth meter using laser or ultrasonic, and rainfall gauge in Cloud Physics Observation Site (CPOS) were compared and analyzed. Applying the QC algorithm including the use of number of hydrometeor particles as reference, the increased SWE per the unit time was determined and the data noise was removed and marked by flag. The SWE data converted by the number concentration of hydrometeor particles are tested as a method to restore the QC-removed data, and show good agreement with those of the weighing precipitation gauge, though requiring more case studies. The three events data for heavy snowfall disaster in Pyeongchang area was analyzed. The SWE data with improved quality was showed a good correlation with the eye-measured data ($R^2$ > 0.73).
PURPOSE. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the marginal misfits of three-unit frameworks fabricated with conventional and digital impressions techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty brass canine and second premolar abutment preparations were fabricated by using a computer numerical control machine and were randomly divided into 3 groups (n=10) as follows: conventional impression group (Group Ci), Cerec Omnicam (Group Cdi), and 3shape TRIOS-3 (Group Tdi) digital impression groups. The laser-sintered metal frameworks were designed and fabricated with conventional and digital impressions. The marginal adaptation was assessed with a stereomicroscope at ${\times}30$ magnification. The data were analyzed with 1-way analysis of variances (ANOVAs) and the independent simple t tests. RESULTS. A statistically significant difference was found between the frameworks fabricated by conventional methods and those fabricated by digital impression methods. Multiple comparison results revealed that the frameworks in Group Ci (average, $98.8{\pm}16.43{\mu}m$; canine, $93.59{\pm}16.82{\mu}m$; premolar, $104.10{\pm}15.02{\mu}m$) had larger marginal misfit values than those in Group Cdi (average, $63.78{\pm}14.05{\mu}m$; canine, $62.73{\pm}13.71{\mu}m$; premolar, $64.84{\pm}15.06{\mu}m$) and Group Tdi (average, $65.14{\pm}18.05{\mu}m$; canine, $70.64{\pm}19.02{\mu}m$; premolar, $59.64{\pm}16.10{\mu}m$) (P=.000 for average; P=.001 for canine; P<.001 for premolar). No statistical difference was found between the marginal misfits of canine and premolar abutment teeth within the same groups (P>.05). CONCLUSION. The three-unit frameworks fabricated with digital impression techniques showed better marginal fit compared to conventional impression techniques. All marginal misfit values were clinically acceptable.
Men's climactic syndrome, andropause, or testosterone deficit syndrome, is one of the new problems with the health of older men in the age of aging. This phenomenon is a natural phenomenon occurring in men as they age, clinically characterized by a decrease in blood testosterone levels and a marked decrease in physical and mental activity. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of hydrothermal extract of Taraxacum coreanum by comparing the levels of nitric oxide (NO) in the cavernosum and the levels of male hormone in the blood. Taraxacum coreanum extract increased NO production in vitro and in vivo in a dose-dependent manner. Levels of dihydrotestosterone and 17-hydroxyysteroid dehydrogenases, as well as levels of neurogenic nitric oxide synthase and cGMP, increased significantly in elderly rats (22 weeks) after 4 weeks of daily intake of Taraxacum coreanum extract. However, prostaglandin $E_2$, testosterone, and sexually-hormone-binding globulin levels were not different among all groups. Furthermore, total sperm and motile sperm counts were also no significant difference. Overall, these results suggest the possibility of Taraxacum coreanum extract as a safe and effective natural substance for enhancing NO, cGMP and free testosterone.

In this paper, we studied characteristics of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) suppression in high-power fiber lasers by using apparatuses applying a temperature gradient (i.e. a step, a sine shape, and random temperature distribution) along the fiber. From the ytterbium-doped polarization-maintaining fiber master oscillator power amplifier built in house, we measured the back-reflection spectrum and power for each temperature gradient, showing that the step shape temperature distribution was the most effective way to suppress SBS. In addition, we investigated the interaction of pseudo-random binary sequence phase modulation conditions and temperature gradients for SBS suppression.
