  • The aim of this paper is to briefly consider the present state regarding Korean language education for multicultural family members, and to consider the outcomes produced so far. Married woman immigrants and their children must be one of the most significant groups for Korean language education in terms of their huge number and their roles and meanings in Korean society. In order to uplift the Korean communicative ability for multicultural family members, an effective operating system for Korean language education is needed, and also live and efficient Korean language instruction must be given by capable Korean language teachers with adequate teaching materials. A customized Korean language education must also be offered based on researches about the characteristics of multicultural family members as "Korean language learners". Korean language education for married woman immigrants has almost been set up in some extent, in terms of teaching materials and the teacher training system. Therefore, an efficient operating system must be constructed so that the developed teaching materials can be actively utilized in the site of Korean language education. A periodical retraining of Korean language teachers for multicultural family members is also necessary for the improvement of Korean language teaching efficiency. However, Korean language education for multicultural children is still in its infancy due to its late start-up. By the support of the Korean government, the curriculum of Korean language education has recently been fixed, KSL text books are being developed, and a diagnostic tool for evaluating their Korean language ability is now in progress. Many continuing concerns and support must still be provided for the improvement of their Korean language ability and fostering them as competitive and capable of speaking Korean.

  • In this paper, a korean text to sign language translation system is designed and implemented for the hearing impaired people to learn letters and to have a conversation with normal people. We adopt the direct method for machine translation which uses morphological analysis and the dictionary search. And we define the necessary sign language dictionaries. Based on this processes, the system translate korean sentences to sign language moving picture. The proposed dictionaries are composed of the basic sign language dictionary, the compound sing language dictionary, and the resemble sign language dictionary. The basic sign language dictionary includes basic symbols and moving pictures of korean sign language. The compound sing language dictionary is composed of key-words of basic sign language. In addition, we offered the similar letters at the resemble sign language dictionary. The moving pictures of searched sign symbols are displayed on a screen in GIF formats by continuous motion of sign symbols or represented by the finger spelling based on the korean code analysis. The proposed system can provide quick sign language search and complement the lack of sign languages in the translation process by using the various sign language dictionaries which are characterized as korean sign language. In addition, to represent the sign language using GIF makes it possible to save the storage space of the sign language. In addition, to represent the sign language using GIF makes it possible to save storage space of the sign language dictionary.

  • Finger language is a typical tool for deaf persons. But learning the finger language for non-handicapped persons is very difficult. To overcome these difficulties, a new communication method using visual function is developed recently. Even though the developed system uses the visual function, it needs expensive equipments such as camera and computer. To be used in the real environments, the cost of equipments is a critical factor. If the recognition system for the finger language can be developed with low price equipments, the system can be used in the notebook or cellular phone. The image captured by PC camera was processed by preprocessing algorithm. To recognize the finger language, the resulting image was divide into $5{\times}5$ sections. The recognition system uses a similarity method and position information. The simulation results shows the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • Lego company created a set called Robotic Invention System as a kind of Mindstorm set. This system helps to understand the technology of both robot and programming language. It also improves creativeness by building and controlling the robot we make. This paper will introduce basic idea of controlling the RCX(Programmable Lego Block) in C language. Also, this paper will show different idea of teaching C language by using other types of robots.

  • This paper presents a design experience of a control language for coordination of a multi-robot system. To effectively program job commands, a Petrinet-type Graphical Robot Language(PGRL) is proposed, where some functions, such as concurrency and synchronization, for coordination among tasks can be easily programmed. In our system, the proposed task commands of PGRL are implemented by employing formal model languages, which are composed of three modules, sensory, data handling, and action module. It is expected that by using our proposed PGRL and formal languages, one can easily describe a job or task, and hence can effectively operate a complex real-time and concurrent system. The control system is being implemented by using VME-based 32-bit microprocessor boards for supervisory, each module controller(arm, hand, leg, sensor data processing module) and a real time multi-tasking operating system(VxWorks). • In a computing environment connected pan-based computers and a server by Internet, This paper describes a language learning system evaluating the quality of a handwriting string. For the purpose of the system, this paper explains how to retrieve reference data from a database, how to evaluate the quality of a handwriting string using global and local features. The Proposed system can evaluate the qualify of a handwriting string as well as a handwriting character. The qualify can be computed in the case of different language between reference and input. Therefore, we expect that the system is very useful not only for training on handwriting but also learning a language.

  • The concept of a "switching language " between different indexing languages and information retrieval systems has been discussed since the mid-1960s. Some preliminary investigates into the feasibility of switching between mediating tool yielded positive results. The Broad system of ordering(BSO) , a general classification scheme for information exchange and switching, has been under development as a joint FID/UNESCO project since 1973. The purpose of this study is to find out the origin, development, definition, and principle of BSO. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: (1) BSO is a switching language for the purpose of interconnection of information system which is located different regions, or using different indexing languages. (2) BSO is in effect, fully faceted and broad classification system. (3) BSO is not only a subject code but also an ordering system. (4) BSO can be used information retrieval system because the notation of composite subjects is formed by combining notation. (5) BSO has to some extent sacrificed brevity by leaving large unused notational gap for future use. (6) The structure of the scheme is in no way dependent upon the notation. notation.

  • As the world develops into a global society, more and more people want to speak foreign languages fluently. To speak fluently, you must have sufficient training in speaking, which requires a dialogue partner. Recently, it is expected that the development of voice recognition information technology will enable the development of a system for conducting foreign language speaking training without human beings from the other party. In this study, a test bed system for foreign language speaking training was developed and applied to elementary school classes. Elementary school students were asked to present their English conversation situation and conduct speaking training. Then, satisfaction with the system and potential for continuous utilization were surveyed. The system developed in this study has been identified as helpful for the training of learning to speak a foreign language.

  • The spationtemporal databases support a historical informations as well as spatial managements for various kinds of objects in the real world, and can be efficiently used in many applications such as geographic information system, urban plan system, car navigation system. However it is difficult to represent efficiently historical operations with conventional database query language for spatial objects. In terms of cost for query processing, it also degenerates performance of query processing because of syntactic limitations which is innate in conventional query representation. So in this paper, we introduce a new query language, entitled as STQL, which has been extended on the basis of the most popular relational database query language SQL. And we implement as well as evaluate a spationtemporal query processing system that get a query written by STQL and then process it in a main memory.

  • The spatiotemporal databases support historical informations as well as spatial managements for the objects in the real world, and can be efficiently used to various applications such as geographic information system, urban plan system, car navigation system. Although there are so far several pioneering works in spatioemporal data modeling, it is little to study on spatiotemporal query language. So in this paper, we at first survey a modeling technique that makes spatiotemporal objects into databases, and then show some sighificant functions supported by query language. Also we suggest a new spatiotemporal database query language, entitled as STQL, which make users to enable to manage efficient historical information as well as spatial management function on the basis of relational query language, SQL. Also the proposed STQL, shows their operationsl in spatiotemporal daabases.
