  • MODIS images have a great advantage of high temporal resolution to monitor land cover changes in a large area. The moderate and low spatial resolution satellite images are incomparably economic than high resolution satellite images. As diverse satellite images are provided recently, strategies using satellite images are necessary for continuous, effective and long-term land monitoring. This research purposed to use MODIS images to monitor land cover in Korean peninsula for long-term and continuous change detection. To maximize the advantages of high temporal resolution, the change detection was based on the MODIS temporal profiles of the surface reflectance for one year. In this study as the reflectance patterns of year 2005 were compared with the reflectance patterns of year 2007, the changed pixels could be detected during two years. To set up the threshold value for the decision of change, ASTER images with the higher spatial resolution, 15m, were used for this study. The test area covered the suburban area of metropolitan city, Seoul, where the landcover changes have been frequently happened.

The Spatial-temporal Changes of the Land use/cover in the Dongting lake Area of Central China during the Last Decade

  • Based on the Chinese resource and environment database, and using the Landsat TM and ETM data acquired in 1990 and 2000 respectively, the spatial-temporal characteristics of land use/cover changes in the Dongting lake area of central China was analyzed. The result showed that cultivated land decreased by 0.57% of total cultivated land. Built -up land and water area expanded, with an increase of 8.97% and 0.43% respectively. 94 percent of the cropland decreased was changed into water (mostly to fishpond) and built-up areas. Land-use changed most quickly in cities, and the slowest in the north and east of the study area.

토지피복지도를 이용한 저수지 수혜구역 농경지 면적 및 변화 추이 분석 (Analysis of Land Cover Change from Paddy to Upland for the Reservoir Irrigation Districts)

  • Conversion of rice paddy field to upland has been accelerated as the central government incentivizes more profitable upland crop cultivation. The objective of this study was to investigate the current status and conversion trend from paddy to upland for the reservoir irrigation districts. Total 605 of reservoir irrigation districts whose beneficiary area is greater than 200 ha were selected for paddy-to-upland conversion analysis using the land cover maps provided by the EGIS of the Ministry of Environment. The land cover data of 2019 was used to analyze up-to-date upland conversion status and its correlation with city proximity, while land cover change between 2007 and 2019 was used for paddy-to-upland conversion trend analysis. Overall 14.8% of the entire study reservoir irrigation area was converted to upland cultivation including greenhouse and orchard areas. Approximately the portion of paddy area was reduced by 17.8% on average, while upland area was increased by 4.9% over the 12 years from 2007 to 2019. This conversion from paddy to upland cultivation was more pronounced in the Gyoenggi and Gyeongsang regions compared to other the Jeolla and Chungcheong provinces. The increase of upland area was also more notable in proximity of the major city. This study findings may assist to identify some hot reservoir districts of the rapid conversion to upland cultivation and thus plan to transition toward upland irrigation system.

Landsat 영상을 이용한 도심의 열변화 탐지 (Detection of Heat Change in Urban Center Using Landsat Imagery)

  • 최근 선진국들은 도시의 열섬현상에 대한 많은 문제점들을 인식하고, 이에 대한 대책을 마련하기 위해 끊임없이 노력하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 위성영상을 이용하여 도심의 개발사업이 진행됨에 따른 토지의 피복변화량을 추출하고 이 변화량이 도심의 열변화에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 하였다. 1985년 4월, 1994년 8월, 2001년 5월, 2009년 5월에 해당하는 4개의 Landsat 위성영상을 이용하여 대전광역시의 토지피복변화에 따른 열변화를 분석하였다. 도심의 지표면 온도를 추출하기 위해 Landsat TM 열적외선 영역센서인 Band 6의 분광밝기정도를 이용하여 표면온도분포를 산출하였으며, 이를 통해 도시화로 인한 열분포의 변화를 탐지하고자 하였다. 그 결과, 도심지의 면적이 최대 23.59% 상승한 반면 산림지역은 최대 27.91% 감소하였고, 도시화로 인해 도심의 지표온도가 주변지보다 높게 나타났으며, 이 경우 산림지역에 비해 약 $2.4^{\circ}C{\sim}5.7^{\circ}C$ 높게 형성되어 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • 최근 연안개발과 간척사업은 인구의 집중, 상업지역의 밀집 등 토지이용의 급속한 변화와 갯벌의 파괴, 해양생태계의 파괴와 같은 연안환경오염을 낳고 있다. 따라서 광범위한 토지이용 및 그 변화를 탐지할 수 있는 보다 새로운 기법의 연구가 이루어져야 할 필요성이 절실한 실정에 있다. 그러므로, 본 연구는 연안지역의 토지피복 분류를 통한 변화탐지 기법을 새롭게 설계하고 적용하여 전체적 변화영상뿐만 아니라 분류항목별 변화영상을 제작하고 정량적인 변화량까지도 추출해 낼 수 있는 프로그램을 제작하였다. 또한 영상이 가지고 있는 각 영상소가 두시기 사이에 무엇으로 변화하였는지를 시각적으로 판독할 수 있게 함으로써 연안개발 및 도시계획 수립을 위한 기초의 의사결정 자료로 이용할 수 있도록 하였다.

신경망기법으로 분류한 토지피복도의 CN값 산정 적용성 검토 (A Study of Runoff Curve Number Estimation Using Land Cover Classified by Artificial Neural Networks)

  • GIS기법과 원격탐사 기법은 수문학의 지형자료 구축과 응용 분야에 활발하게 이용되고 있으며 다방면에서 많은 연구가 진행 중이다. 본 연구에서는 산악지역에서 토양 특성과 토지 피복 상태에 따라 유출 특성이 어떻게 나타나는지를 CN값을 산정하여 평가 하였다. 토지 피복 분류에 신경망 기법을 사용하여 보다 적합한 분류 방법을 모색하고자 했고, CN값 산정을 위한 연산에 GIS기법출 사용하였다. 우선 샘플지역을 선정하여 토지 피복의 정확도를 평가하면, 기존의 최우도법(80.9%)과 신경망 기법(84.1%)에서 신경망 기법 분류 결과가 상대적으로 우수하므로 신경망 기법으로 토지 피복을 분류하였다. 그리고 SCS방법으로 토양도를 이용하여 AMC-II 조건하에서 CN값을 산정하면 수작업 토지이용도는 55, 신경망 분류 토지 피복도는 57로 비슷한 결과로 나타났다. 이를 토대로 전체 유역에 대해서 신경망 기법으로 분류한 토지 피복도를 사용하여 CN값을 산정하여 적용함으로써 타당성을 증명했다. 앞으로 신경망 기법을 이용한 토지 피복 분류와 GIS기법의 적용으로 보다 정확하고 신속한 CN값 산정이 가능할 것으로 사료된다.

광학 영상의 구름 제거를 위한 기계학습 알고리즘의 예측 성능 평가: 농경지 사례 연구 (Performance Evaluation of Machine Learning Algorithms for Cloud Removal of Optical Imagery: A Case Study in Cropland)

  • Multi-temporal optical images have been utilized for time-series monitoring of croplands. However, the presence of clouds imposes limitations on image availability, often requiring a cloud removal procedure. This study assesses the applicability of various machine learning algorithms for effective cloud removal in optical imagery. We conducted comparative experiments by focusing on two key variables that significantly influence the predictive performance of machine learning algorithms: (1) land-cover types of training data and (2) temporal variability of land-cover types. Three machine learning algorithms, including Gaussian process regression (GPR), support vector machine (SVM), and random forest (RF), were employed for the experiments using simulated cloudy images in paddy fields of Gunsan. GPR and SVM exhibited superior prediction accuracy when the training data had the same land-cover types as the cloud region, and GPR showed the best stability with respect to sampling fluctuations. In addition, RF was the least affected by the land-cover types and temporal variations of training data. These results indicate that GPR is recommended when the land-cover type and spectral characteristics of the training data are the same as those of the cloud region. On the other hand, RF should be applied when it is difficult to obtain training data with the same land-cover types as the cloud region. Therefore, the land-cover types in cloud areas should be taken into account for extracting informative training data along with selecting the optimal machine learning algorithm.

Land cover classification based on the phonology of Korea using NOAA-AVHRR

  • It is important to analyze the seasonal change profiles of land cover type in large scale for establishing preservation strategy and environmental monitoring. Because the NOAA-AVHRR data sets provide global data with high temporal resolution, it is suitable for the land cover classification of the large area. The objectives of this study were to classify land cover of Korea, to investigate the phenological profiles of land cover. The NOAA-AVHRR data from Jan. 1998 to Dec. 1998 were received by Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute(KORDI) and were used for this study. The NDVI data were produced from this data. And monthly maximum value composite data were made for reducing cloud effect and temporal classification. And the data were classified using the method of supervised classification. To label the land cover classes, they were classified again using generalized vegetation map and Landsat-TM classified image. And the profiles of each class was analyzed according to each month. Results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, it was verified that the use of vegetation map and TM classified map was available to obtain the temporal class labeling with NOAA-AVHRR. Second, phenological characteristics of plant communities of Korea using NOAA-AVHRR was identified. Third, NDVI of North Korea is lower on Summer than that of South Korea. And finally, Forest cover is higher than another cover types. Broadleaf forest is highest on may. Outline of covertype profiles was investigated.

GIS와 RS를 이용한 오대산국립공원의 경관특성 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Landscape Characteristics of Odesan National Park by using GIS and RS)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 오대산 국립공원을 대상으로 수치표고모텔, 용도지구 및 토지피복분류도를 작성하여 경관특성을 파악하고, 가시권분석을 통해 시각적 경관관리방안을 제시하는 것이었다. 분석결과, 용도지구는 자연환경지구의 면적이 감소하고 자연보존지구가 상대적으로 확대되어 보전의 성격이 강화된 반면, 취락지구도 면적이 증가하여 개발 가능성이 증가하였다. 토지피복은 자연환경지구에서 농경지 및 도시지역의 증가가 나타났다. 가시권분석을 통해 가시중복도가 높게 나타난 지역은 대부분 자연보존지구였으며 산림지역이 대부분을 차지하였다. 그러나 일부지역은 자연환경지구 내에 포함되어 지속적인 경관관리가 요구되었다.

Modeling of LULC Dynamics in Bekasi District-Indonesia by Linking NDVI Measurement and Socio-Economic Indicators

  • This study discusses an effort to build a model to link normalized difference vegetation indices (NDVI) and socio-economic indicators derived from village survey (1990, 1993, 1996, and 2000) statistical data in Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia. Socio-economics indicators of sub-district level, in this study the number of agricultural households (AH), are aggregated from village level data. NDVI from Landsat-TM resolution data (1989 and 1997) are computed to detect land use/land cover (LULC) dynamics in the sub-district areas. Attention is mainly paid on the examination of agricultural land cover changing in the sub-district level. NDVI measurements might be used to predict AH dynamics as showed by computed linear regression models.
