  • Active vibration control of laminated composite plates has been carried out to design structure with maximum possible damping capacity, using piezoceramic sensor/actuators and passive constrained-layer damping treatment. The equations of motion are derived for symmetrical, multi-layer laminated plates. The damping ratio(ζ) and modal damping(2ζ$\omega$) of the first bending and torsional modes are calculated by means of iterative complex eigensolution method for both passive and active vibration control. This paper addresses a design strategy of laminated composite plate under structural vibrations.

  • Active control of forced vibration of the cantilevered laminated composite plates using collocated piezoceramic sensor/actuator is analyzed numerically and verified experimentally for various fiber orientations. Impact on the stiffness and the damping properties is studied by varying stacking sequence of [$\theta$$_{4}$O$_{2}$90$_{2}$]s for the laminated composite plate. For the forced vibration control, the plate is excited by one pair of collocated PZT exciters in resonance and its vibrational response is suppressed by the other collocated PZT sensor/actuator using direct negative velocity feedback. It is shown that the active control of forced vibration is more effective for the smart laminated plate with higher modal damped stiffness(2ζ$\omega$/aup 2/) .

  • In this paper, geometrically nonlinear static analysis of laminated composite beams is investigated under hygrothermal effect. In the solution of problem, the finite element method is used within the first shear beam theory. Total Lagrangian approach is used nonlinear kinematic model. The geometrically nonlinear formulations are developed for the laminated beams with hygro-thermal effects. In the nonlinear solution of the problem, the Newton-Raphson method is used with incremental displacement. In order to verify of obtained formulations, a comparison study is performed. The effects of the fiber orientation angles, the stacking sequence of laminates, temperature rising and moisture changes on the nonlinear static displacements and configurations of the composite laminated beam are investigated in the numerical results.

  • Composite materials are consist of two or more different materials to produce desirable properties for structural strength. Because of their superiority in strength, corrosion resistance, and weight reduction, they are used extensively as structural members. The objective of this study is to present the effectivness of the laminated composite elements by analyzing in-plane displacement and stress of the anisotropic laminated annular elements. Anisotropic laminated structures are very difficult to analyze and apply, compared with isotropic and orthotropic cases for arbitrary boundaries and fiber angle -ply. Boundary conditions for the examples used in this study consist of two opposite edges clamped and the other two edges free, and finite difference method is used in this study for numerical analysis. From the numerical result, it is found that the program used in this study can be used to obtain the displacement of the straight beams considering it's transverse shear deformation as well as anisotropic laminated elements. Several numerical examples show the advantages of the stiffness increase when the angle-ply composite materials are used. Therefore it gives a guide in deciding how to make use of fiber's angle for the subtended angle, load cases, and boundary conditions.

  • In this paper, the experimental and numerical results of buckling loads for laminated composite plates are compared. Using boundary conditions of buckling test are all fixed supports. Experiments were conducted for plates with fiber angles $ heta$=30$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$,60$^{\circ}$ and aspect ratio a/b=0.8. Experimental results were obtained from load-deflection curves of buckling test. Numerical methods were presented to evaluate buckling loads, using structural analysis results from ANSYS.

  • The responses of composite laminated beams modeled with finite element and excited by stochastic loading are studied. The cantilevered laminated beam having a 5 ply configuration is considered. The beam is 1m long, 0.1m wide, and 0.02m thick, yielding a length to thickness ratio of L/h=50. The laminated beams was assumed to be made of Born Epoxy. The four nodes at the free end of the cantilever were loaded with identical zero-mean white noise excitations. Stress and failure analysis loaded with identical zero-mean white noise excitations is carried out. Along with the obtained results, comparison and discussion are presented for the cases of symmetric-ply, antisymmetric-ply, angle-ply, and cross-ply laminated beams.

The equations of motion are derived fro flexural vibrations of symmetrical,. multi-layer laminated beams. The damping ratio and model damping of the first bending mode are calculated by means of iterative complex eigensolution method. The direct negative velocity feedback control is used for the active constrained layer damping. • This paper studies the dynamic instability of laminated composite plates under thermal and arbitrary in-plane periodic loads using first-order shear deformation plate theory. The governing partial differential equations of motion are established by a perturbation technique. Then, the Galerkin method is applied to reduce the partial differential equations to ordinary differential equations. Based on Bolotin's method, the system equations of Mathieu-type are formulated and used to determine dynamic instability regions of laminated plates in the thermal environment. The effects of temperature, layer number, modulus ratio and load parameters on the dynamic instability of laminated plates are investigated. The results reveal that static and dynamic load, layer number, modulus ratio and uniform temperature rise have a significant influence on the thermal dynamic behavior of laminated plates.
